Rating: Summary: Of all Pern-books, this is the best! Review: At first when I started reading this book I was troubled by the rich language. I read it in english, and as I had studied english for only three years, most of the finer words went over my head. All the talk about impressions, weyrs, watch-whers, firelizards... My first reaction was "too many new terms!"However, as I started reading more and more of it, the terms became clearer and clearer to me. Anne McCaffrey has succeeded in creating her very own unique world that's truly a classic! DON'T put the book down even if the language seems strange at first! This work of McCaffrey certainly deserves 5 stars and it towers far above the later (and newer) books about Pern.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: Dragonflight was the first book I read of the Pern seies, and I thought it to be the best. The charactors(Lessa, F'lar, F'nor, etc...) are highly developed, and this book is always interesting(it doesn't lag for a second!) and there is always something you didn't expect happening. It's wonderfully written, and you'll have trouble putting it down, even when reading it for the second or third time!
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite Pern books! Review: This is the first book I read of the Pern series, and I loved it! I've read the entire series and this is definately on of my favorites. Of any of the characters Anne McCaffrey has created (at least the in the books I've read so far) Lessa was the most well developed person. I don't know why the author seemed to turn against her in all the other books! Other great characters in this book inclued, F'lar, Master Robinton, F'nor, and the Dragons!
Rating: Summary: Terrific story, but with a few "hmmmm"'s! Review: While admittedly it's a lot harsher than the sequels, that's what I like about it. Very medieval and raw. I find F'lar's devotion to Lessa a bit odd, though, he seems to honestly love her, but doesn't seem to think twice about shaking and/or slapping her when he gets mad. Hmmm....I'm glad the author changed that in the sequels. Also a few flukes, here, the author can't make up her mind if green dragons are male or female(they are referred to as both "he" and "she" throughout the story) or whether Lytol's dragon was a green or a brown(was a green, here, but in Dragonquest he changed to brown)!
Rating: Summary: great book! Review: I think this book is awsome! It has lots of detail and Anne makes the dragons so real as if I know them myself. a must read for all dragon lovers!
Rating: Summary: AWESOME! Review: I started McCaffrey with Dragonsong, and gradually jumped from the Harper Hall trilogy to The MasterHarper of Pern to this thriller. Lessa is a fantastic charcter, and her feelings are written perfectly by one of my favorite writers. I now am obsessed with the fabulous dragons of Pern, who came alive for me in this book. As Lessa rebelliously flies the gorgeous Ramoth and discovers the tedious business of flying between Times, I was flying with her. Her amazing excursion to bring the Oldtimers forward 400 Turns was awesome. YOU MUST READ THIS!
Rating: Summary: A Must Read Book! Review: What an amazing story! It's slow in the begining but if you stick with it your sure to find it is an exellent story!McCaffery really makes her books take FLIGHT!
Rating: Summary: Dragonflight Review: I loved it, it was my second Ann McCaffrey book, so it was kinda hard to understand at first, but the Dragondex in the back helped. I love reading Ann McCaffrey, the books almost come alive. Because of all the details, I feel like I've been to Pern.
Rating: Summary: SUCH a great book Review: This is an incredible book. The world is completely thought out, the characters interesting, and now I want a dragon as a pet. It should come with a warning label though: guys like F'lar don't exist in the real world, because I totally fell for him, and havent been able to find my own.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED IT! Review: I first read this book in 5th grade because my cousin's girlfriend suggested it. I thought it was pretty good, but I was too young to understand the style or the plot. Two years later, I remembered it and I read it again. I LOVED IT! I think that the characters are great and funny (the good guys) or at least well developed (the mean ones). I thought it was really exciting, funny, scary, and GOOD!! I must have read it at least 3 times, and I would suggest it to anyone who isn't intimidated by the length. :)
