Summary: IT WAS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ.
Review: DRAGONFLIGHT WAS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ BECAUSE I COULD TOTALLY RELATE TO THE CHARACTERS IN THE BOOK. THE REASON I COULD RELATE TO THEM WAS BECAUSE THEY WERE FALLIBLE. WHAT I MEAN BY THAT IS THEY WERE NOT PERFECT GOOD GUYS (LIKE SUPERMAN OR HERCULES) THEY HAVE THE POWER TO DO GOOD AND DO IT BUT THEY ARE FULLY ABLE TO MAKE MISTAKES LESSA AND F'LAR MADE ALL THROUGHOUT THE BOOK. THE BOOK WAS ABOUT AN HEROIC ATTEMPT TO SAVE PERN FROM DEADLY THREAD FALL. I WAS LITERALLY SUCKED INTO THE BOOK. I AM TRUELY GLAD THAT IT IS PART OF A SERIES. ANNE McCAFFREY IS A TALENTED AUTHOR WHO HAS A WAY OF DRAWING PEOPLE INTO HER BOOKS THAT I HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.IF ALL AUTHORS COULD WRITE BOOKS LIKE THIS YOU WOULD FIND NO ONE WATCHING T.V

Summary: A Sci-Fi novel that has me yearning for dragons in the sky.
Review: The planet of Pern is running out of time, and only a small group of people and dragons belive the legends. Lessa is the only person who can save Pern and the dragons, but can F'lar teach her the truths of the legends?.

McCaffery had made a world we can all enjoy that makes us yearn for dragons in our own skies

Summary: If I'd know that it was addictive . . . .
Review:

That's what I've heard every addict who walked this earth say. Except me, and the cult following of Anne Mc Caffrey's books.

Cult? I hear you ask, shivering with visions of mass suicides. I hear you whispering "Fantasy . . . Science-fiction?" and see the images flashing through your head of Star Trek and the mockery that is made of those who follow it.

STOP THOSE THOUGHTS!!! THEY DO _NOT_, I REPEAT _NOT_ APPLY TO THIS BOOK!!!

Instead fill your minds with visions of flying with the wind in your face, a friend who will never desert you but stay by your side and with your mind until the very end of your lives. Fill your mind with images of a world which, although it is not perfect and where there still can be found the ignorant, holds the greatest of treasures that the wise search for, not the greedy. The treasures that can be found in companions for life, human and dragon. Feelings which pulse through your body leaving your soul naked to it's passion, then calming you and curving your lips in a gentle smile, caressing your face, your faithful pet with it's tail hugging your neck as you sit on your dragon. Your soul mate.

Welcome to Pern. Welcome to the Dragonriders of Pern. And as you sigh, content, here's a tip. Read the prelude, or you might be lost. Though this is a pleasant place to be lost!

Summary: great Book, but a pain in the butt to find info in
Review: I really liked this book. it had the daring Lessa the druge in it. When she impressed the only queen left on pern she became protected and very shielded. F'lar knew she would make a wonderful weyrwoman, but he didn't know how good. She and Ramoth made this book come alive and made you want to read it again and again. But never ask Anne for info out of it she'll make you look it up<g>

Summary: READ THIS BOOK!!!!
Review: Dragonflight was amazing. It was not the first book I read in McCaffrey's Dragonriders series, but it is the best. The characters are realistic; even though the heroes are not perfect (a trait I find annoying with many fantasy/sci-fi writers)I fell in love with F'lar and Lessa and I found I was drawn into their struggles. The concept was VERY well-devised--instead of the old virgin-eating, city-destroying dragons, these were scientifically plausible, genetically engineered partners with humans. The story moved fast and unpredictably, but it also gave you time to accept the new world McCaffrey created. This is probably one of the best books I have ever read--it's right up there with Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and Marion Zimmer Bradley's Mists of Avalon. I will repeat my headline: READ IT. You won't be sorry

Summary: The best of the Pern series!
Review: I got this book free and put off reading it thinking it wouldn't be interesting. I was absolutely wrong. I read it once and completely fell in love with Pern. I have now read it over and over again as well as the other books in the series. It has everything: interesting characters, adventure, a little romance. I especially like the dragons who seem very real- just as real as any human character. They are very special and a important part of the story. This is still my favorite of the series and I think almost everyone will enjoy it as much as I did

Summary: Dragonflight, the begining of a legend
Review: Dragonflight is a compilation and expansion in book form of a novelle that was first published back in the late 60's by the venerable John Campbell in the magazine "Analog SciFiction/SciFact" In terms of the start of the cronology of the PERN saga this is in the middle, but in terms of when it was written, this was the start of something big. I treasure my copy of Analog with this story, I expect those of you unlucky enough to have been born too late to have the original will cherish this. A must buy for any fan of Anne McCaffrey, the original "Dragonlady of Pern"

Summary: Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey
Review: I guess my review might look stupid next to those above, but I have to agree with them. DRAGONFLIGHT is everything you could possibly need or want in a book. The characters are wonderful, human and dragon alike. Simply the best

Summary: Would make an awesome movie-with enough material for sequels
Review: I¹ve always thought the Dragonrider stories would make a great major motion picture. But, I was afraid someone might try. Our technology for special effects was not up to the level needed to really make this story work. However, with ³Jurassic Park², and the new ³Dragonheart² in particular, I have completely changed my mind. They now could make the dragons seem real enough, and really keep the soul of the story intact. That soul includes a young man fighting against the odds to save the world, a young girl who doesn¹t want to accept her role in saving the world, the attraction they both try to deny, and the epic events that sweep them both along whether they like it or not. It¹s romance, adventure, and the wonderful, magical fantasy of the dragons who are the center of everything. The dragons have as much personality as the human characters and feel just as real. I would be first in line if some director ever decides to make this into a movie. Another point why this series is my very favorite, is because I hate it when I read a really good story and it ends. In the dragonrider series there are well over ten books. They are all individual stories which can be read seperately, or if you fall in love with the world of Pern and it¹s people, you can read on and on... Although most of the books include the same basic characters, they cover the stories of many minor characters as well, and also different time periods. I have re-read the whole series many times to myself, to my little brother as I put him to bed each night, and gotten friends and fellow fantasy fans hooked on them as well. They are absorbing and real. A world so detailed it¹s believable. In short - they are the best

Summary: Great imagination...but somehow it still feels boring
Review: Contrary to all the praiseful reviews, I think this book is a bit boring. Yeah, just as my title says, the writer has a great imagination. Also the story is quite complex - something I like - but somehow it's just boring. This has a lot to do with her writing style. It's so monotonous... A lot of spectaculair things happen, but they seem to go almost unnoticed. She describes action from a distance.

I want to experience the burning of 'the thread' in a dragon's wing..!! Just mentioning it doesn't get me arroused.

The only bit of action is in the dialoges. These are relatively well written, although sometimes hard to follow (it seems one needs to fill in gaps). Yet I kept waiting and waiting for Lessa and F'lar's romance. Hoping dearly for increasing tenderness between the two. No way, suddenly everything is alright... State affairs are the only fun thing to write about, according to Anne McCaffrey.

Well, I don't want to paint a very bad picture. Maybe you should give it a try.
