Review: Arthur C. Clarke is considered a master of science-fiction by so many not because of finely crafted fictional worlds or highly detailed alternate universes...no, he is beloved and respected because his stories of fiction take place in *our world*. They are highly believable in a very real world way, because (by and large) Mr. Clarke's stories are grounded in the scientific reality of their day and laced with speculative science that is feasible in every regard. You believe in his worlds because they are of our world.Arthur C. Clarke does not craft characters with rich depth, or twisting plots that are overly complex - he creates simply stories of discovery that delight and astoud, *without* seeming overly unbelievable. Will your children get to live out the imagery of 2001? Maybe, just maybe...

Review: This book is brilliant. Clarke writes with a lot of authority about both science and his vision of the future This book is better than the film as the visual images that Clarke describe far exceed anything that Kubrick could have done with his camera.

Review: This short book just grabbed my attention. I finished it in one sitting. The movie is a pale comparison. The first thirty pages I thought were incredible, the moon watcher is quite an interesting character.

Summary: ONE OF THE GREATEST SCIENCE FICTION NOVELS OF ALL TIME
Review: 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY deserves to be ranked next to STAR WARS and THE WAR OF THE WORLDS among the greatest sci/fi novels of all time. Arthur C. Clarke probes deep into human evolution and advances in technology which may lead to man's own downfall. These are among some of the themes addressed in this insightful book. To some extent it is even better than the movie.

Summary: Please don't forget...........
Review: I just want to remind everyone who has read the book and/or seen the movie of something: The book is ARTHUR C. CLARKE'S interpretation of Kubrick's movie. The truth is that no one know exactly why Kubrick did certain things in his amazing film, not even Clarke. So if you read the book for clarification of the movie, keep in mind that it isn't explaining Kubrick's film, it is simply an interpretation, which (after reading Kubrick's great biography by Vincent LoBrutto)probably isn't even very accurate. The book is great, and will help your understanding, but it isn't the Bible.

Summary: Well worth a read, if only to compare 1964 thinking to 2000
Review: Perceptive and incredibly accurate are Arthur C. Clarkes views on the world in 2001. He may have been somewhat ambitious in his predictions of the rapid progrees in technology, although not very far off, but his insightful view of the geo-political situation at the end of the century is spot on. His description of Dr. Floyd's electronic newspapers is very detailed; Clarke could well have been describing the Windows operating system and the internet. A compelling read, I could not put it down till I had finished it. Highly recommended.
