Summary: Good addition to Ender's series
Review: I ordered "Enders Shadow" along with the controversial WWII novel "Triumph and the Glory" and enjoyed them both. I don't see what all the fuss is about. Geez!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best I have read all year
Review: This excellent book expands Ender's Universe and once again makes us want more. Ender's Shadow is a beautiful fulfillment to the question of what happened to Bean. It was wonderful. I couldn't put it down.

Summary: Decent, but no Ender's Game
Review: I bought Ender's Shadow and read it a day ago. While it was decent, it never came close to Card's other books like (obviously) Ender's Game and Treason. Although Card says he wants to make it a book that can be enjoyed without reading Ender's Game, that isn't strictly true. Even though the book is about Bean, it is never really about him--Ender overshadows (no pun intended) the whole book. It was as if this was simply an addition to Ender's Game, not truly a novel in and of itself. It was about Bean, but only Bean in relation to Ender.

I wanted to know more about how the subplot of his birth would affect him in future life, but it wasn't really resolved in the happy-happy ending (although I found Card's tribute to his family very sweet). It is almost as if the book is a mere prologue to the REAL book about Bean, which seems destined to follow. It never had any real moments of emotion for me; the plot is merely shadowed, as its title indicated. It had no real climax or plot in and of itself, and if I had read it first it would have ruined the surprise of Ender's Game. Bean is a little to all-knowing and the way he is discovered and goes from street urchin to Battle School seems rather implausible. Everybody seems to know everybody and everything comes together in a tight little knot.

As it relates to Ender, I enjoyed it. As a book on its own...well, it doesn't have that much merit. But I finished it in one sitting, and though Ender's Shadow doesn't have the magic of Card's other books, he certainly hasn't lost his skill for writing an intense, gripping book.

Summary: A companion to Ender's Game that doesn't disappoint!
Review: OSC does not disappoint in writing this companion novel to Ender's Game. I had high expectations in starting this novel knowing the quality of his writing and he did not let me down. He was able to bring me into a world that I was enthralled in from reading the first quartet and now I was able to recapture the magic. The book was both exciting and touched a sensitive part in all of us. It makes you think about how things around you without being too much of an oratorical work. OSC writes his books in a carefully planned and meticulous way making sure that he gets his details exactly correct. Also his technological information is as accurate an can be in order that nothing takes away from his story...Coming right down to it: OSC spins a good yarn so keep on keeping on.

Summary: IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING BOOK I"VE READ
Review: I cannot believe how gifted a writer card is. I just finished the book no more than a minute ago and now I am sad that it is over. it had so much depth and meaning. I actually feel privlaged to even have read it. I'm not sure how he will ever top this wonderful novel, but one thing that i do know is that he will and I can not wait until he does.

Summary: Ingenius!
Review: This book is one of the best I have ever read, second only to the original Ender's Game. It is absolutely fascinating to hear the original story again, but from a completely different perspective.

I think that Bean's gradual progression from a nearly inhuman emotionless survivor to a human with real feelings made the book even better. It was fascinating to see how he grew up and was changed by his experiences.

Another interesting point is that the book was left very open ended, leading me to believe that there may be a sequel planned. I can only hope so; I am dying to hear what happens to Bean and the other major characters after they return to Earth.

Orson Scott Card definately has a flair for the dramatic, his books are some of the hardest to pu down, and this one is definately no exception. I would advise reading the original Ender's Game series first and then coming back to this book, just to get a better feel for the whole story, though this book is still one of the best just by itself.

Summary: Another money-maker for Mr. Card
Review: For the last 10 years OSC has come up with all sorts of ways to make money. Now he's mining the Ender saga for all it's worth. ENDER'S SHADOW is well written, fluid ... and boring. All Card is interested in is making money and he'll do anything he can to get people to think he's one of the greatest writers on the planet. All the critics in the SF field are his personal friends and the reviews he gets are "non-reviews"; they just do backflips in praise of this man's alleged insight into the minds of children. This book will have a number of sequels or other "parallel" books: ENDER'S TENNIS SHOES, followed by ENDER'S CHRISTMAS followed by ENDER'S ORTHODONTIA and ENDER'S SUMMERTIME ROMANCE. I'm truly sorry I have contributed to Mr. Card's financial status over these years. But, boy, how the man knows how to get rich. EVERYBODY: DO NOT READ ANYTHING WRITTEN BEFORE 1980! Go back to the classics and forget Orson Scott Card's self-righteous narcissism.

Summary: Well Done
Review: Many of the reviewers here have only read four chapters, and a small number of people claim that this has led to misleading interpretations of the novel; that the book as a whole does not live up to its beginning. This is wrong.

I've read the entire novel(in one sitting). Ender's Game and Speaker For The Dead had an energy that Card seemed to have lost as he continued into Xenocide and Children of The Mind(Which I was too disgusted with to finish, by the way). In Ender's Shadow I was skeptical at first. Why, I asked myself, had Card returned for yet ANOTHER Ender book? After reading it, I know why.

Ender's Shadow is from a different presepective--obviously Bean's--and as such, it gives the reader not only a clearer picture of some of the events in the original and explanations for elements Card had neglected, but it also somehow manages to hold an interest in a character whose fate we already know from reading the first. Ender's Shadow was a daring and very risky piece to write, but Card has accomplished it brilliantly.

Whether or not it can effectively stand alone, I don't know. Is it as good as Ender's Game? No, it isn't. But, then Ender's Game--in my humble opinion--is one of the best books ever written. However, Ender's Shadow is a stunning read and one that will resonate with anyone who was drawn into the Battle School and anyone respected Card for his refusal to "dumb down" children. Buy it, read it, and you will understand what I mean.

Summary: Another of Cards masterpeices
Review: A great book, fine read alone, but i think that u would get more out of it by reading Enders Game 1st.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A book for those who never wanted to leave Battle School.
Review: This is a great book based on an interesting concept of telling the same story from a different viewpoint. This is not just Card trying to get more money from his Ender series but this book really adds to the over feel of Ender's Game. If you enjoyed Ender's Game then you have to buy this book. It should be a law.
