Rating: Summary: This series is one of the most brilliant Review: This series is one of the most brilliant series I have ever read. I can't put them down.
Rating: Summary: Has it's weak points; is GREAT in spite of them! Review: While I understand the feelings of the readers who complain that Ender's Shadow seems to undermine Ender, I felt that the new perspective presented in Shadow is the most important reason why this book is not merely an attempt to create a lame sequel that cashes in on the success of the original, but a new book that can truly be called a parallel novel in terms of both enjoyability and originality. And while some parts of the novel may seem to be a love song, with Card determined to deify Bean, it is Bean's lack of empathy(or understanding) for the Buggers and for others in general that keeps him from taking Ender's place. While we may learn more of Ender's weaknesses in Shadow, Ender has not been fundamentally altered from the character we knew in Ender's Game. One other weakpoint, I felt, was that the part of the novel that corresponds to Ender's Game read rather like footnotes to the original story(not that it isn't interesting: it is.) And the slightly anticlimatic showdown with Achilles was a bit of a letdown, but this can be easily remedied by a sequel. So, my conclusion... GIVE US ANOTHER SEQUEL, MR. CARD!!!
Rating: Summary: Terrific story about a key Ender Character Review: Bean's story ends up as compelling as Ender's Game. The story is especially good because it shows that every leader needs a team, and a team that has great individuals that make things go well. Bean is a bit unbelievable at the very beginning of his life, but I guess this is explained by genetic engineering. In addition, the book clearly shows the evolution of Card's writing capabilities with better story telling than the original Ender's Game. Card has written a terrific story line. I anxiously await the sequel
Rating: Summary: Again, good, but not "Ender's Game" Review: I just finished the book, and I have to say it is the most engrossing book in the "Ender" series SINCE "Ender's Game." Not quite as engrossing as "Ender's Game".. I was able to put it down a couple of times. Didn't want to, but I was able to, whereas with "Ender's Game," I was literally unable to put it down. The book isn't as morally significant as "Ender's Game", and the character of Bean isn't someone that inspires a great deal of empathy or caring like Ender is, but I'm glad I read it. I plan now to go back and re-read "Ender's Game" and use the new perspectives that "Ender's Shadow" provides. One technical "flaw" (at least, according to my tastes), in the "teasers" to each chapter (where Card writes conversations between the adults), I was only able to know who the adults were about half the time. I'm still at a loss as to who the one Graff addressed as "Sir" was..
Rating: Summary: An enjoyable read! Review: If you read this book without expectations (of Enders Game) you will be delighted. A new twist on the original story. Card has done exceptionally well with this novel, he has managed to create a story line that can stand by itself as well as meld into the original series. Read this book with an open mind and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Rating: Summary: A perfect parrelel! Review: Seeing the same story unfold from a different point of view really helps you understand the story of Ender's Game. Card should write another novel about Bean's relationship with Ender's brother, Peter.
Rating: Summary: Bean's no Ender Review: When I saw Ender's Shadow on the shelf I was broke, but thought "How can I not buy this book?" because Ender's Game was one of the most impactful books in my life. So I bought it and read it till all hours of the night. It's a good story, full of OSC's magnificent touch, but it lacks Ender-quality. Ender alone will forever stand in my memory--he is the hero, not Bean.
Rating: Summary: Wish I could say 4 and 1/2 Review: Shadow realy impressed me. i was expecting a copy of enders game but it truely was different. I would not push it as a stand alone book because many things go unexplained, the lasers and flash suits, some of the politics earthside, etc. all would have been lost to me if I hadn't read enders game. Also unless you are used to Card books with their super mature and intelegent children Bean would blow all credibility out of the water. I liked this book alot and it has me in a kind of loop reading enders game again and then shadow again to feel how they flowed togeather and although I liked enders game more than shadow. Enders Shadow still stands as an awsome book as most card books do. But I wonder what will be next in the Ender universe? will it be a second bean story or another parallax this time based on Patra, Ali, or Dink?
Rating: Summary: READ ENDER'S GAME FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Sorry about that, I just wanted to tell you all that, even though this book is beyond wonderful, Ender's Game still dwarfs it. If you read this book first it may give away many fascinating, and much more detailed secrets in Ender's Game, I highly recommend that you read Ender's Game first.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good, but not his best. Review: I read Ender's Game and absolutely loved it. I thought that Card's lastest Ender book, Ender's Shadow, would be just as good - it was not. Don't get me wrong, it was excellently written, but Bean was too unbelievably smart. I guess my imagination just couldn't stretch that far.
