Rating: Summary: Ender's Game II: Bean's Game Review: A writer writes a book, the book happens to be one of the best science fiction books of all times, and makes the big money. The author writes sequels, different but original, which are between good and terrible and which also bring in money, but not as much as the first book.So what does the author do? what would you do? Orson Scott Card wrote Ender's Game again. Not that the idea, telling the Ender story from Bean's point of view isn't interesting. The problem is, Orson Scott Card rewrote everything. The result is that Bean is our new hero. he's the Nouveau Ender. Smarter then Ender, in fact. It feels like one of the comedies in which you have to take two people through the same place, without them meeting each other, only it's ain funny. It's like trying to sneak an Elephant through the City hall. It doesn't work, and it diminishes not only Ender's game, but also ENDER. But then, in the last two Ender tales, he had to fight tax colloectors and was bored to death by his wife. what can you expect? There are good things in this book, too. The scenes without Ender are good, and finally getting an explanation for some action by Petra is almost worth the wait. I've been waiting for that answer for like 6 years. BTW, if someone here hadn't read Ender's Game but did read Ender's shadow, please email me, I would like to talk to you. anyone else feel free, too
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: This books was great! I recommend reading Ender's Game first, because some of the stuff in Ender's Shadow is explained very in-depthly(is that even a word? oh well). In fact, I think you really should read Ender's Game first so you know what is going on. Again, this book was amazing--just FANTASTIC! I had read Ender's Game before reading this, so I knew what was going to happen. When I read the ending--the second-to-last chapter, really--I admit, I cried. A book has never before moved me to tears. I LOVED this book. I would highly, highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: loved the shadow! Review: Ender's Shadow is a wonderful addition to the Ender series. I had a hard time putting it down. I feel like instead of taking away from the original book it added a new dimension to it and gave me more insight into Ender's Game. I loved Bean's character and how he overcame so many obstacles in his life and never felt cheated with what he was given. After reading Ender's Shadow I had to go back and reread Ender's Game to relive it through Ender's eyes. And i still loved that one as much too. They really compliment each other! Great reading.
Rating: Summary: Well Done Review: There will never be another Ender Wiggin! But I like the fact that there are other people in the universe, with whom I want to spend some time. Bean will never have the same effect as Ender but he is, in some ways, more human... As allways OSC is portraying his caracters like nobody else: I felt like I knew Bean and the others. I sometimes find myself wondering what their response might be to a given subject. This book is a way to enter the Ender-universe. But I think that you should also read "Enders Game" to get the most from this book.
Rating: Summary: Not even close to Ender's Game Review: Orson Scott Card seems to be attempting to make as mush money as possible by adding Ender's name to the title. The book really doesn't have much to do with Ender, and Bean seems like a loud-mouthed brat.
Rating: Summary: Sure it was a good follow up but does it even touch Ender Review: Come on guys, lets all face it that Orson is a great writer but wouldn't we have rather had a sequel to Ender instead of one of his tag-alongs. Ender was the greatest, therefore none of his glory should have been taken away by the fact that Orson was hoping to grab people's attention by using Ender's legacy....For God's sake look at the title. Card looks like a pimp trying to prostitute Ender's name for more money.
Rating: Summary: Loved it Review: I had forgotten what a great story Ender's Game was. I hope we haven't seen the end of Bean. I would love to find out what happens next.
Rating: Summary: Read Enders Game first! Definitely! Review: It is certainly possible to read Ender's Shadow first, BUT it will reveal the wonderful suprise ending of Ender's Game. That ending is priceless, and if you already know how things will turn out, Ender's Game has less impact. It would be a shame for such a wonderful sequel to ruin the joy or reading the original.
Rating: Summary: THE MOST INSPIRING GUIDE TO LIFE Review: I agree with most of these reviews in stating I loved Ender's shadow. From reading these reviews you as a reader have probably determined what are the strengths and weaknesses of this book, so you don't need me to tell you that Orson Scott Card is a master of his genre... and these two books: Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow will always be classics. Instead I will tell you how they effected someone; me. Ender and Bean have inspired me. Every quirk in their personalities, every emotion they felt I can relate to. My life is remarkable similar to theirs. I am in an environment in which I am expected to be the best, and I am pushed to my breaking point only to give up and it is then that I succeed. There have been times when I am frustrated and hopelessly depressed at my situation, and I look to those two for help. Their courage and wisdom have changed my life dramatically. And I am the better fot it. To Orson Scott Card: I can't thank you enough for bringing these two into my life. They have meant a great deal to me, as I'm sure they have to you.
Rating: Summary: Orson Scott Card does it again Review: While I don't think this book is as good as Ender's Game (my all-time favorite book) it was still an exciting and thought-provoking story. I was extremely drawn in by the plights of the characters and read the entire thing in less than 24 hours. It was definitely a worthwhile read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Ender's Game.
