Summary: Just as good as Ender's Game!
Review: This book was just as good as Ender's Game. Maybe even better. It sheds new light on the annoying little Bean. I love how he learns to survive and sets things right. The self-discovery issue made it easier as teenager to relate. It was also pretty cool the way they used the exact same quotes as in Ender's Game. Before I read this book, I loved Ender and everybody else just, well, sucked. But after reading Ender's Shadow you learn more about what happened at Battle School. Bean is just as cool and brilliant as Ender.

Summary: Carries on the tradition in fine fashion
Review: Ender's Shadow will appeal especially to readers who liked Orson Scott Card's Enders books, but it will be a great discovery for anyone who isn't familiar with this terrific series. Ender's Shadow compares favorably with 1999's best novels, I rank it up there with mainstream fiction's military thriller The Triumph and the Glory, SF's the second Foundation trilogy novels by Brin, Benford, and Bear, and Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon.

Summary: And a poor shadow at that...
Review: For me, Ender's Game was an excellent book that was unfortunately followed with some very poor sequels. I had better hopes for Ender's Shadow, but found it to be dry, overly analytical, and showed through too much of Card's strong religious background in it's not too subtle overtones. Ender's Game is one of the best books I've read, but unless you really enjoyed its sequels, don't get the 'companion novel'

Summary: A book for all ages
Review: I loved this book. I read it right after reading Ender's Shadow and they were both great. I'd never read any sci-fi before, so I was hesitant but as soon as I finished Ender's game I rushed to buy Ender's Shadow. It's about Bean, a character in Ender's Game. It kept me as intrigued as the first one and I would recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Just as good as Ender's Game
Review: I thought Ender's Shadow was terrific, every bit as good as the first one. I didn't want to read this book; I thought it would take after Xenocide and Children of the Mind (all that philosophy to wade through and hardly any story line). But I was most pleasantly surprised! I finished the book in one day, and then passed it along to my dad and brother who were both fans of Ender's Game. They loved it too.

Summary: Many mistakes, but still a good read
Review: At first glance, this book is spectacular. As always, the dramatic speech Card's characters use tends to draw attention away from the mistake he makes. However, there are to many. First off, it is kind of hard to believe Bean's affection for Pole. I mean, later on, he tells Achielles that she stopped Bean from killing him. In fact, while it was Bean's idea to kill him in the first place, she is about to go through with the murder even after everybody else wants him to live, and Bean has to stop her. And after that, she tries to get Ach to throw Bean out of the "family" out of pure vindictiveness. Furthermore, Bean tries avoiding her immediatly after, convinced Achielles will take his revenge on her, Bean avoids on the calculating assumption that if he is seen with her, he will be in jeopardy too. Only after she dies does he begin to hate Achielles for killing her. And how does he know she was trying to save him? She was stupid, she might have just been trying to save herself. Also, Card seems to mix up genius with street smarts. Just cause someone is a genious doesn't mean they can't be naive. Also, in Achielles's thoughts about great men, he gets Lenin mixed up with Trotsky and seems to think Saddam Hussein will be remembered 200 years in the future by a Dutch orphan with one year of education. Despite all this, I enjoyed the book solely because Card's natural talent never fails to shine through. I just wish he had put more effort into it.

Summary: Paralleled Enders Game!
Review: Wonderfully written and great in detail. It paralleled the original book, Ender's Game, that was written over a decade before it! I loaned the first book to my husband, who reads nothing but Sci Fi, and he loved it so much he began loaning it to all his buddies. I had the same problem this time. I thought he would never get the book back so *I* (the buyer) could FINALLY read it! Well worth your time.

I expect this one and the first will be CLASSICS someday. In fact, one professor told me Ender's Game is required reading in their high school.

Awesome!

Summary: Revisited but not improved
Review: I have this problem with Scott Card's children -- they read about 12 years older than they are supposed to be and it's definately the case in this work which revisits Ender Wiggin's childhood but from a very different point of view. In the notes Scott says he was originally going to open this to other authors. I think he should have. It's a not very good sequel that lacks the power of Ender's Game.

Summary: The BEST Work of CARD
Review: Card is a master storyteller. Ender's Shadow is the best work of Card. Ender's Shadow, again, proves that Card is one of the best science fiction writer. If you enjoyed Ender's Game, you will love Ender's Shadow. You do not have to read Ender's Game to understand Ender's Shadow although reading Ender's Game will give you better understanding.
