Rating: Summary: A GREAT MYSTERY, SET IN THE FUTURE Review: Although Isaac Asimov's Caves of Steel is great science fiction, it's strength lies in the fact that it trascends typical science fiction novel, and becomes a great mystery novel. Many science books are centered around the neat toys of the future. Such as space ships, computers, or as in the case of this story robots. But in Caves of Steel it's the mystery that stands out. Unless the reader is a genius, there is no way to figure out who the murderer is at the end. Agatha Christie would have been proud. So if you love both science fiction stories, and mysteries, this may be the story for you.
Rating: Summary: The Caves of Steel Review: The Caves of Steel was the first book in the Assimov foundation series. I found it to be one of the best books that I had ever read. This book is a fun, and easy to understand book. It will drive you into wondering who killed Dr. Sarton as Elijah and R. Deneel try to come to a solution. This book is very unpredictable, and exciting. This book was the first book that I have read by Assimov other than short stories in Robot Dreams. That is a collection of short stories by Assimov which is also excellent. So, I recomend this book to everyone who likes to read.
Rating: Summary: A must-read for Asimov Fans Review: As you can see from previous reviews, this is a must read for anyone who likes Asimov, Robot stories, mysteries, or the possibilities of our future (sci fi). The series gets even better but it all starts here -- with the human-looking robot R.Daneel Olivaw. If you are a fan of the Foundation universe, this series takes place in the same universe. The later Robot novels in this series begin to tie to the later Foundation books (characters and events). You might want to read them in order. Mr. Asimov suggests a chronological order in the intro to one of his newer Foundation novels, maybe "Second Foundation" or "Prelude to Foundation".
Rating: Summary: A book of adventure and deep ideas. Review: I really enjoyed this book. This book is sci-fi mixed with mystery. It has social and possible future conflict as well. It has something for everyone. I recommend this book to anyone one who likes fiction and to Asimov fans, it is a must read.
Rating: Summary: One of the Good Doctor's earliest and best... Review: In his usual manner, Dr.Asimov has given the world of Science Fiction one of its enduring classics. Precursor to his classic Empire and Foundation novels, The Caves of Steel is an excellent murder mystery, as well as an exploration of an agoraphobic future earth. I trust that no one will figure out the mystery beforehand. Another of Asimov's best.
Rating: Summary: A story of class conflict. Review: With books like this Asimov takes a better look at society rather than this mystery. We have the decadent and few Spacers and the pragmatic and many Earthpeople. Alot of political plotting, like in all his books, but surprising more interesting than Foundation (possible because it is more basic). Recommended for any Asimov fan. One of the least dated (and most prescient, with mentions of solar power and recycling) of his older novels.
Rating: Summary: Thought-provoking and interesting Review: Written like a classic detective-mystery, the first book in the Daneel/Baley series, THE CAVES OF STEEL is an excellent book, especially if you like mysteries. There has been a murder in Space town, and the Earthman Baley must team up with the human-looking, spacer android Daneel. Baley dislikes robots intensely, but he comes to respect and like his partner by the end of the book. I found THE NAKED SUN, the second book, to be even better, but this book is well written and you can't put it down.
Rating: Summary: Read This - It is Great !!! Review: This a fun, charming introduction to the Grand Master of SF and his Robots. You will find the latter books even better - so start here.
Rating: Summary: This book is a great sci-fi read and one of Asimov's best. Review: I love the stories and non-fiction works of Issac Asimov. He is one of my faovrite writers and I think that The Caves of Steel is one of the best books he has writen in the Science Fiction genre. Its important message of acceptance and friendship is placed wonderfully in the future where a human cop and his robot partner have to work together. This plus the combination of great sci-fi writing, as always comes form Asimov, make it a 10 in my book
Rating: Summary: Though slightly dated (like most old sf), a fantastic read. Review: This book introduces two of Isaac Asimov's most famous chacters; Lije Bailey, and Robot Daneel Olivaw.
Lije Bailey is a detective in New York, a New York that has moved underground to support its exploding population. The city has become agoraphobic and robot-phobic.
An important "spacer" (otherworld colonist) is murdered, and a robot is assigned to Lije to help crack the case.
Highly recommended.
