Summary: Robots and Foundation
Review: I love both robots and Foundation novells. This is the first book of the robot novells followed by the Naked Sun, The Robots of Dawn and Robots and Empire, which in turn is connected to the Foundation novells.

Summary: Ultimate sci-fi murder mystery!
Review: Ultimate sci-fi murder mystery! Elijah Baley is one of the best written detectives in history, and certainly gives old Sherlock Holmes a run for his money. This is the second book in by far the greatest sci-fi saga ever written. A must read for sci-fi lovers, and Asimov fans! Although die-hard mystery lovers may object to the futuristic nature of the book, it doesn't hinder Asimov's story-telling or the mystery, and actually enhanses it. I, ROBOT is the first book in the Asimov saga, and CAVES OF STEEL is followed by THE NAKED SUN and then THE ROBOTS OF DAWN.

Review: Too shallow, stiff and hokey. No action. No emotion. A great plea for ZERO POPULATION GROWTH! tho.

Summary: Fantastic Mystery and Social Critique
Review: Aside from being a fun science fiction slueth story, Caves of Steel presents an incredible picture of human society as it may come to us in the future. I found that this aspect of the book-- depicting how people will react to the advent of robots on the commercial scene as well as what happens to people in general(their dislike of open spaces and uncontrolled elements)-- was just as interesting if not more so than the storyline. Certainly it is more to Asimov's credit that he could write this sort of novel with such an insightful vision of the future than it would be if he just polluted the book market with yet another good mystery novel. I tend to favor the Grandmaster's older fiction more than his newer, except in the case of Foundation's Edge, which I found to be a fantastic book.

Summary: Pure Asimov!
Review: A futuristic detective story of the highest order, where the mad corridors of subterranean earth are one of the most prevalant characters. Lije Bailey and his humanoid robot partner Daneel Olivaw work to solve the case of the murder of a powerful Spacer and end up finding out terrible truths about themselves.

Summary: Asimov fan, (Raul).
Review: One of Isaac's best works. This is a great intro. book for new readers of Asimov.

Summary: A super book that shows an interesting future for Earth.
Review: Asimov's wonderful mystery/science fiction novel that sets the stage for his whole robot series has a good mystery plot. The whole book's setting, however, is in some ways more interesting. The idea of a future Earth as being a few huge cities with tens of millions of people who have never seen the light of day is disturbing and thought-provoking. Though the mystery is not extrodinarily complex, it is interesting when put together with the setting which makes the book even more interesting. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: Great book, not a great mystery.
Review: Okay, first I'll point out that anyone who regularly reads mystery novels will identify the murderer early on (at least I did). However, Asimov is not a mystery writer, he is an SF writer. As an exploration of a world of the future, this is absolutely top-notch. Furthermore, the way in which Bailey discovers who is the murderer is well done -- after all, Bailey doesn't know he's in a murder-mystery book plot, so he can't identify the murderer the way we can.

Summary: Amazing book, a must read for any Sci-fi fan.
Review: Asimov proves to be the ultimate king of science fiction through this first installment of the ROBOT SERIES. Intrigue, logic and the amazing three laws of robotics make it an instant classic. The Caves of Steel paves the way to Baley's future off world investigations and sets the mood to the entire series. Two THUMBS UP for this book!
