Rating: Summary: Summertime in Anytown, U.S.A. Review: I own two paperback copies of 'Dandelion Wine." Yet, the copy that I pick up to read every time is the one with the yellowed crinkly pages that smell faintly of dust. I must have read these stories hundreds of times. I read them when I was twelve, a teenager, and yesterday--25 years old. There is such wonder and beautiful lyricism to Bradbury's words. These stories are his best. Cherish them, read them over and over again. I never owned a nickel tablet--but I understand what it means to write on one.
Rating: Summary: Bradbury has grasped the very Essence of life Review: Dandelion Wine is nothing short of genius. It's a book that must be savored and read over and over and over. Bradbury has found the essence of life and written it down for everyone to see. It's not too much of a surprise though that some people don't get it, because it's not another mass-produced dime-a-dozen thriller, nor a cheesy romance, nor a shallow, action-packed suspense novel. The pages within this book make you think. And the more you think, the more that Bradbury's words start to make sense and open your eyes to a part of life that most of us never realize exists. Ray Bradbury is undoubtedly one of the greatest writers we'll ever know, and he holds back none of his brilliance or wisdom in this timeless piece.
Rating: Summary: A Teenager who understands this book... Review: I can relate to Bradbury's sence of nostalgia very well even though I'm only 19. As I attend college and plan for the future I miss the innocence of childhood more and more. I'd recommend this book to anyone of any age who remembers a summer they'll always want to go back too.
Rating: Summary: Yet another teenage malcontent has her say... Review: I must confess, I am currently reading Dandelion Wine for the first time, and not quite voluntarily. Bradbury is trying to capture the joys and innocence of a childhood long gone, trying to open the metaphorical bottle of dandelion wine on the winter of his adulthood. However, with his needless convoluted writing style, which seems to beg of literature teachers everywhere to have their students try and analyze it, the exact opposite effect is achieved. Also, since it's summer now, and my childhood, technically, is still here, I don't particularly feel the need to wallow in Bradbury's nostalagia. Perhaps, as an adult, in my 4-bedroom house, with a 2-car garage, spouse, kids, etc, after a day boredom and and work, 9-5, I'll be able to read this book and enjoy it, convoluted language and all, and sigh over joys long gone. But until then, I'm afraid I'll have to play the part of the rebellious teenager and give it only two stars.
Rating: Summary: Nostalgia, Nostalgia, Nostalgia Review: I suppose it is because I am young that I don't partiularly find this book all that interesting. Bradbury seems to be reaching to find his childhood. I didn't find anything that struck a nerve to me. I'll read it 30 from now and see how I feel then. For now, I'll stick with "Farenheit 451."
Rating: Summary: slow beginning, but it gets better Review: I had to read this book as a reading assignment in eigth grade. For the first 100 pages I hated it. After that I started to likeit. After I fifnished it I looked back on it and saw that I really liked it. Ray Bradbury is a really good author. This story is filled with so much life and so much about what it is to be alive, no matter when or who, that anyone who reads would have to like it. Any one can relate to Douglas, the main charachter. I loved this book.
Rating: Summary: A Book for the Ages Review: There is no science fiction in here- rather, it is so full of life. I've never read any book that captured boyhood innocence better than this one book. I almost cried in the sadder sections, and I was just as scared as the characters were in the Ravine. I've seen other stories based very much on the ravine- I think even Steven King stories have been based on that. Of course, the most popular writer of today could not come close to the writing of Ray Bradbury, who never got due credit.
Rating: Summary: This is a dull book Review: I think that this book is very boring and it has no plot. Because I am a teenager I really don't appreciate this okk. I was forced to read it in English and I think that is why I didn't like this book.
Rating: Summary: Dandelion Wine is about LOVE. Review: Ray Bradbury does love better than any other author around.
Rating: Summary: i thought it was an overll good book Review: At first i thought that dandelion wine was a dull and pointless book but as I sat back and thought about it it really isn't. It makes you think of the little things people over look and how children see things. Its a good book to read when you are older so you can look back on your childhood.
