Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A emotional, incredibly well written book.
Review: I truly feel that this book is perhaps better than the first. While I loved the first, this book was more openly emotional and creative, while not being excessive. I am now reading XENOCIDE, which I so far think is good but not as good as this masterpiece. To anyone who craves a good science fiction book, I highly recommend this, and ENDER'S GAME.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Ending very disappointing.
Review: I was disappointed with this book, perhaps more so because Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead were so good. This feeling of being let down started to creep in about three quarters of the way into the book. The plot lines were neatly converging, the suspense steadily building, I could hardly wait to finish the book to see how things would be resolved. So what happens? The seemingly intractable problems of discovering Jane's origin, travelling faster than light, taming an (intelligent?) killer virus and preventing xenocide where solved in a few pages by sitting in box, closing one's eyes and making a wish! Oh, come on, gimme a break. And then to completely go off at an unnecessary tangent (I haven't yet read the fourth book...), Card decides it would be nice to clone Peter and Valentine.

OSC is not very good when it comes to technical details and hard science, this is clearly evidenced by his theory of "Outside". His strength lies in telling stories that revolve about interpersonal relationships and individual motivation, which is why Ender's Game & Speaker were superior novels.

I will read Children of the Mind with trepidation.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This book made a very good sequel to Ender's Game. I liked it because it had a very good plot.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: There are some scenes in this book that broke my heart ...
Review: and then put it back together. This is a far better book than Ender's Game, which I also liked. It's more thoughtful, more emotional, more mature than any science fiction novel I have ever read. Novinha touched me deeply. The scenes at the beginning of her at the funeral and then of her isolation as a child and later an adult made me cry. Ender was also a more attractive character in this book than in Ender's Game. I've read both of the sequels to this book, but I don't find them as good as this one.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Brilliant!
Review: When OSC is at his best, he's unsurpassable. Whether Ender's Game or Speaker for the Dead is the better book is a matter of taste; Ender's Game is more action/hard science and Speaker delves more into the interpersonal relationships (which I think is OSC's strength) and is the more complex book, without the somewhat boring sections that mar Xenocide and Children of the Mind. My personal ratings: Ender's Game: 9.5; Speaker: 10; Xenocide: 6; Children: 6. The last 2 are not nearly as compelling but still worthwhile reads, if you like OSC. If you do like OSC, I think he's also at his best in Pastwatch (which is SF) and the first 3 books of the Alvin Maker series (which is fantasy): Seventh Son, Red Prophet (tougher going but still good) and Prentice Alvin (maybe the best in that series).

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Everybody should read and learn from this novel.
Review: This is far superior to Ender's Game and any other work of Science Fiction. It takes merely a few characters from Ender's Game and creates a story which deeply explores the highly socialogical/anthropological problems that will be created when Mankind [inevitably] discovers another intelligent species.

It draws from the example of Christian Missionaries discovering natives in the East Indies (also explored in his 'Timewatch') and on human treatment of apes.

It is a book which wonderfully explores these very important ideas in the context of a very compelling story. What you're left thinking about afterwards is what those who seek to explore space, or start wars should read.

Weaved into this are some wonderful characters, and some very human situations.

There's also a wonderful creation called Jane, who has been self-created out of strings from the internet and computer systems and extracted a personality and human views. Jane is a very interesting prospect of! the future in computer worlds.

Summary: One of my Favourite Ever Books
Review: I just love this book, it is touching, intelligent, moral (without being overbearing) and has characters I can feel for. In my opinion even better than Enders Game because it just seems that little bit more adult and is different to most books.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great book, but a bit slow at start
Review: This book is wonderful. I have to admit, though, that it was a bit slow in the beginning. It really picked up when Ender showd up a little before the middle. I would recommend this book to anyone who liked Ender's Game

Summary: One of the best books I have ever read!
Review: Earth has been attacked by aliens twice and humans have almost been obliterated. The government is training children to become commanders and officers in case we are ever attacked again. Ender is only six when he is taken from his home to the military battle school in outer space. Ender uses his genious to quickley rise above the other students and earn their respect. Soon he is taken to a command school and told that he alone can save the human race if the aliens return. This magnificent novel by Orson Scott Card will entrap you in a spiderweb of deception and deciet. I recoment this to anyone who wants a good thrill.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great transition from Ender's Game! Superb plot!!
Review: Card introduces new and exciting characters that assume lead roles as the series continues. Giving Ender a chance at redemption with the piggies is a one of many brilliant plots that arise near the end of this great book. I loved reading about the moral and ethical issues concerning the piggies and it makes you think about what we(Earth) would do if ever faced with this dilemma.
