Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: It was a totally different book than I thought it was going to be. It wasn't as action packed as Ender's Game but it was still a book that you can't put down. Orson Scott Card is probably the greatest writer that has ever lived.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: This is an increible book! Like Ender's Game, it has every thing good sci-fi requires. A MUST READ FOR FANS OF ENDER'S GAME OR ANYBODY ELSE!
Rating: Summary: An absolutely increadible book Review: Speaker for the Dead really changed my outlook on life. The ideas and relationships described in it are so unique and yet true. I encourage everyone to read this fabulous book, as well as the other four in the series (Ender's Game, Xenocide, Children of the Mind and Ender's Shadow) I would love to discuss this book with anyone who has already read it. My e-mail is LilGrape25@aol.com. If you have not already read this book I urge you to do so immediately.
Rating: Summary: Best of Ender Series Review: 'Speaker for the Dead' for me was the best story of the whole series; including Children of the Mind and Ender's Shadow. Ender's family is simply amazing as written by Card. Excellent. This is truly story telling at it's finest.
Rating: Summary: Top-notch sequel to Ender's Game Review: It's easy to see why Orson Scott Card took home consecutive Nebula and Hugo awards for best novel...In Speaker For The Dead, Card takes Ender out the universe we originally met him in and forces him to grow in the face of adversity...All the while, he gets to atone for spearheading one of mankind's greatest atrocities...This is not as easy a read as Ender's Game was...But if you can get past a few slow-moving parts and the Portugeuse (if you're not familiar with Portugeuse, that is), the descriptions and the drama will simply blow you away... I'm anxious to read Xenocide, the third book in this trilogy...If it's anything like Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead, I won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: "Dear, Speaker." Review: The sequel to the "Ender's Game" was totally different than I thought. I was expecting Ender's succesor, whoever that might have been, to talk about Ender. But he was still alive after 3,000 years. I was so glad to find out that he was stil alive and was to tell the story. There were moments that warmed my heart, and there were moments that chilled my heart. The emotion was set very high, and the healing at the end was so real, I thought I was in the story. Now, I can't wait to finish reading all of the Ender saga.
Rating: Summary: Bravo! Intelligent, compassionate, insightful .... Review: This book is outstanding! The Ender Wiggin character from Enders Game has grown up and become his own medicine. At first, when I read the introduction I was a bit hesitant about reading the rest of the book. I just couldn't imagine how Card was going to make a group of space colonizing Portuguese Catholics an interesting read. How wrong I was! Card really delves into the philosophical nature of Ender Wiggins and left me wanting a whole lot more!
Rating: Summary: Good, but there's just ONE thing. Review: I hate it when authors "discover" a new religion or culture or something and practicly BASE the ENTIRE book on that. This book is all portrogese, and I have nothing against them, but it really depresses me to see something like that happen to a great author like Card.
Rating: Summary: Just read the book before I hurt you! Review: Ok, if you like science fiction, fantasy books, then you have to read Speaker for the Dead. If anything, it is much better than the prequel Ender's Game. In Ender's Game, there was essentially one plot line. In Speaker for the Dead, there was one main plot line with several adjoining ones, making this book far more complex and interesting than the one before. Unfortunately I just finished the book today and so have not had the chance to read the next book Xenocide. The character's...characteristics were so detailed, so in depth, that it was as if you were there when Pipo went to the piggies for the last time, you were there for the speaking of Marcao, you experienced the same feelings and emotions of Jane as she was shut off from her only link to humanity, and so on. If you are ready for the depth and incredible reading experience, then you have to read this book!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful sequel, but not in the way expected Review: Speaker for the Dead is a wonderful sequel to Ender's Game. But so different, bear in mind it was written over a decade after the story of Ender was first in Card's head. This book is more difficult to read and I have some friends that had trouble getting into it. It is more difficult because it explores religion and life so much more deeply. It forced me as the reader to examine what things i expect and accept from my life and my beliefs and realize there are others beliefs that are just as right and good, but for others - not me. It's good to understand more and open your mind to all of the ways life can be loved.
