Rating: Summary: Nice & Fluffy Review: The title gets it absolutely right. "Good" Omens. Not stellar, not great, not even fine omens, but good ones, all packed together in this discardable little book by humor-fantasy meister Terry Pratchett and dark-fantasy meister Neil Gaiman. It's a comic novel about the end of days and darned if I didn't laugh out loud. A lot. But the jokes were cheap and easy and didn't really showcase the talents of either of these writers. Aziraphale and Crowley shine as the main characters and turn the novel into a sort of Crosby & Hope "Road to Armaggedon" kind of story. Their appearances are the only worthy bits in the entire novel. The rest reads as more a Three Stooges movie. If this sound sappealing to you, more power to you. Admittedly, I liked it enough to read a second time, many years after the first reading, but that was because I had finished "American Gods" and was in the mood for another dose of Gaiman that would not soon be forthcoming. I knew what I was getting into, however, knew I would be reading a light, airy fantasy without any real meat to it, but for some reason that wasn't enough the second time around. This is a charming book to use killing an hour or two, but don't try to make a meal of it. You'll starve to death.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down. Review: My husband said I would laugh out loud, and I didn't believe him. I did! This book was great! I tried for months to find it used, but couldn't. Now I know why. This is the perfect book to read over and over again!
Rating: Summary: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Apocalypse Review: The type of humor here is VERY Douglas Adams-like. Terrifically funny. If you like Mr. Adams or Monty Python, you'll find this book very entertaining.
Rating: Summary: containing everything needed for perfection Review: This book contains everything needed to make a good book- witches, aliens, devils, angels, tibetian, americans, death , famine, pestilence(pollution_, war and of course Queen. What more could anyone want?
Rating: Summary: Give us more Review: This really fun book does not need an additional review, but I had to put a rating in order to influence my amazon recommendations. I would love to read more books with that great sense of humor.
Rating: Summary: A 3.670392 would be the most accurate, actually. Review: Neil Gaiman. Terry Pratchett. Two great authors, surely this book can be nothing less than fantastic. So I thought. I was expecting a lot when I picked this one up. Perhaps I expected a little too much. An excellent start to a great storyline: that scene at Eden. Dialogue that brought pure joy, and situations that are very much Gaiman and Pratchett. I ate eagerly into the first half of the book, but towards the end, it just started to drag. The whole procession, that began so wonderfully, started straggling, and while those Horsemen brought refreshments, I had to force myself to continue reading. And mainly because I hate leaving things unfinished. Too many cooks spoil the broth? I'm not sure. I love Pratchett but am not experienced in Gaiman, so I wouldn't really know. Perhaps they got a little tired. Maybe they just weren't able to put their ideas across properly. (Highly unlikely. Even if Gaiman wasn't, Pratchett's a master at it.) I'd recommend this book to anyone who 1) likes Gaiman, 2) likes Pratchett, 3) likes them both, or 4) is in something of a great need to just read something. (That is, you'd read anything, but you draw the line at a certain point, for example, say, Anne Rice, or something. No offence to Anne Rice lovers. I'm not a fan of hers, so the previous example is just, uh, in relation to myself.)
Rating: Summary: Satire Review: Good omens is a book where everything in it isa satire. It makes fun of Arrmageden, heaven hell and even witchhunts and prophency. this book is an example of Terry Pratchet's satirical writing style.
Rating: Summary: Apocolypse Now? Review: Anyone with a love of mythology and a good sacreligious sense of humor (like Catholic-School Nuns)will really enjoy this book. Two of the most creative fantasy writers from the last decade team-up to tell this tale that will keep you laughing until the Second Coming.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I love this book. Neil Gaiman did an amzing job when he wrote this (as with all his other stuff). I think this is a definite read for anyone looking for a hilarious book.
Rating: Summary: Good Omens...we do need it! Review: An hilarious satire of apocalyptyc doomsayers of all time. Pratchett and Gaiman tell us that humanity, what whit human potential for greed, hatred, bigotry, violence, stupidity, terrorism, egoism, indifference, shortsightedness, pollution,is still too crazy to really destroy herself. Even the horsemen of the apocalypse are confused. I liked it!
