Rating: Summary: MIND BLOWING STUFF Review: It is my belief that Terry and Neil wrote this book while sucking on laughing gas. That is certainly the way I felt while reading It. From beginning to end the book is full of suprises and colorful characters. From Dog to the four horseman . The way everthing works and the story is woven together. Bloody good reading. I personally didn't know that when you leave a tape in the sun for long enough, everything sounds like Queen. Even the Bently has a personality. Witches, idiots, and some very rude little boys and a girl. What more could you want in a book. I would personally recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: I lent it out, and it never came back. Review: Okay, my husband found the book, not I. He read it, and between fits of giggles and tear wiping, he would turn to me and state "This has got to be the funniest thing I've read in a long time."Curiousity killed the cat (and the Kathie) and so I read the book. And between fits of giggles, and much amused smirking, I would turn to him and say "You were right, this thing's hysterical." So we lent the book out to a friend who has since held it hostage. "Too good to give back, sorry." And we lent the second, third and fourth copies out to family and friends with the same result. I've read Douglas Adams. And as someone else stated, if you want Adams humor, go read Adams. These two fellows are funny in their own sense. And the minions of Heaven and Hell will never seem the same to me again. Thanks guys!
Rating: Summary: Ha! Ha! HA! Review: I've never had so many laughs with a book. Frankly, the one-line summary says it all.
Rating: Summary: Stands the test of time Review: I first read Good Omens about 7 years ago, and promptly referred it to family and friends. It introduced me to the Terry Pratchett's subtle yet 'custard-pie-in-the-face' writing style, and this collaboration with Neil Gaiman adds the pique of black comedy. I don't think you can compare this book to any other author/genre/comedic group, not even to some of Pratchett's other works - it stands alone as a masterpiece of narrative and dialogue. Each time I re-read Good Omens, I am struck by yet another subtle reference to philosophy, history or simply another take on the human condition. I find that as I become more well-read, I discover that Good Omens becomes a richer and richer read, which cries out "classic" to me.
Rating: Summary: This is the best book I have ever written Review: I loved the whole thing. There wasn't a page that went by where I didn't have to stop reading and wait to stop laughing. My congrats to the writers, well-done chaps.
Rating: Summary: I thought it was very well written and quite amusing Review: I particularly liked the would-be horsepersons (bikepersons?) of the apocolypse. Their depiction as thugs or rough and tough bikers and their "tagging along" with the real bikerpeople gives them a realness. Also the reason that they aren't included in the book of revelations is quite well though out. In whole it is a very satisfying story.
Rating: Summary: Pratchett & Gaiman at the same time- could it be better? Review: In response to some less positive reviews of this book, if you are looking for Douglas Adams style humor, go read a Douglas Adams book. If you're hoping to laugh out loud but find morbid situations generally morbid no matter what the take on them: Hey, this is the apocalypse we're dealing with, it doesn't get much funnier than this. This book is incredibly amusing, particularly if you like Pratchett and Gaiman and think that a cross between the two would make life significantly richer. Written in Pratchett's style (Terry will tell you he did most of the physical writing), this book brings together the light-hearted wit of Pratchett and the dark imagination of Gaiman into one immensely satisfying tome. Loved the ending. Aziraphale and Crowley are a comic pair to- err- nevermind... :)
Rating: Summary: Sophisticated Cleverness-will make you laugh much Review: If you have some spare money and are laughter-deprived, go buy this book. If you have no money, go find someone who owns a copy of this book and ask them politely if you may borrow it. They'll probably let you- ever since I read this book I have been endorsing the reading of it to all I know. There are so many wonderful things about this book, from the unlikely couple Anethema device (the practical occultist) and Newton (pseudo-electrician and reluctant witch finder) to the unlikely Aziraphale and Crowley (not to mention Madame Tracey and Shadwell-"ye hoor of Babylon!"). The dialogue is great and hilarious, as is almost everything in this book. Take note of the fate of Baby A..:)
Rating: Summary: It was the funniest! Review: This is the funniest book ever written. It's like reading an episode of Monty Python. The British humor is very subtle, but still obvious enough for everyone to understand. I love the way they explain good & evil as organizations that can't destroy eachother without defeating their own usefullness.
Rating: Summary: Monty Python does The Omen Review: This book is funny as hell! If Monty Python did their version of the apocolypse this would be it. This is one of the only books I've read that actually made me laugh out loud. If you don't have buy it!
