Summary: Re-reading is a pleasure
Review: GOOD OMENS is clearly one of my favorite books. It does follow Douglas Addams' style, and has many of Pratchett's witty ideas. However, Gaiman adds even more to the copia of that wonderful piece of art. He explores the connections between good and evil, between holy and damned. He opposes and unites God and the Satan and their angeld and demons. He presents a fascinating view of the secular ideas of the modern Christianity and all religion as a whole, touching important areas of humanity. This is an apotheosis of great ideas, wonderful writing style and Gaiman's immensely vivid flux of creativity.

Summary: Family Vacation Fun
Review: A couple years ago we did a lot of driving during vacation. My wife read this book to me while I drove, and the kids (11 & 6) listened in. (Soon after vacation, we got a second black cat. As we already had one named Aleister, this one got named Aziraphale. She's sitting on my lap, begging for attenion right now!)

This is a comedy of errors about the eschaton, the Antichrist, and Armageddon. My wife & I grew up taking the Apocalypse quite seriously. That served only to make this book funnier. Our children, who couldn't tell an antichrist from an anti-Chrystler, found the book entertaining as well.

Fast read. Lots of fun. If you've read all of Douglas Adams' books and are hungering for more, this is the book for you! You might consider following it with Terry Prachett's Small Gods.

Summary: The Bad News and the Good News about Armageddon
Review: The good news is that Elvis is still alive and flipping burgers at a Des Moines 'Burger Lord'. The bad news is that he's going to die right along with all of the rest of us when Doomsday rolls around next Saturday.

By the way, there is no Rapture so don't think you're going to be able to settle down with a bowl of popcorn and watch the rest of us descend to Everlasting Torment.

What are some of the signs that Armageddon is almost upon us?

-Agnes Nutter predicted it

-An Archangel (technically he's a Principality) and a rather famous snake band together to prevent it

-Someone misplaced the Anti-Christ (technically the Adversary, Destroyer of Kings, Angel of the Bottomless Pit, Great Beast that is called Dragon, Prince of This World, Father of Lies, Spawn of Satan, and Lord of Darkness)

-Atlantis rises out of the ocean and strands a cruise ship on its main plaza

"Good Omens" is an extremely funny look at the End of the World--not in the gut-busting, laugh-out-loud style of a Dave Barry (at least not for me)--but in the best dead-pan, Monty Pythonesque 'take a normal object and rotate it into the wrong dimension' tradition. All of the main characters are loveable, earnest, and in some cases bumbling-- even the Witch-finder Sargeant. There are a couple of despicable (but bumbling) demons, and the Horsepersons of the Apocalypse are flat-out evil. The latter inhabit all of the truly scary corners of this book, but for the most part it is cross-eyed, cock-a-hoop, British tongue-firmly-in-cheek funny.

And the Snake doesn't have _all_ the lines. Agnes Nutter, the Adversary (Destroyer of Kings, Angel of the Bottomless Pit, Great Beast that is called Dragon, Prince of This World, Father of Lies, Spawn of Satan, and Lord of Darkness),Aziraphale (technically a Principality), the 'hoor of Babylon', and the Witch-finders Sargeant and Private get in a few good ones, too.

"Good Omens" is a classic.

Metatron says you've got to read it.

Before next Saturday.

Summary: All Roads Lead to Freddie Mercury
Review: Simply put, this is my favorite book. Enjoyable from beginning to (nearly) the end, Good Omens is just as the title says. From the first few pages, I sensed I would enjoy myself throughout the book's pages. It was as if Douglas Adams came out of hiding!

Pratchett and Gaiman combine to form a perfect combination. Although Gaiman is among my favorite creators of fiction (a friend and I own the entire Sandman series and have read every page of it), his solo work can easily be too heavy and self-interested. Pratchett, while funny, writes unsubstantial anti-logic, entertaining to read but slowly comes off as more dull than droll. (His only good book is _Small Gods_, in the same vein as Good Omens.) Together, an amazing version of Gaiman's work presents itself; it is lighter than, say, the dark _I Sold My Daddy for Two Goldfish_, but equally funny (and longer at that!).

The memorable aspects go on and on: the lost Anti-Christ, the Crowley's demonic car of Queen, Aziraphale's comforting bookstore, the Four Biker's of the Apocalypse, a hellhound named "Dog", and two bumbling members of Hell's administrative branch.

If you were intrigued by the film _Dogma_, read this. Not only is it a sharper book, but it is more focused, funnier, and more rewarding. _Dogma_ was a string of sloppy mistakes. _Good Omens_ takes pieces of Gaiman's fascination with mythology, the very British humour of Pratchett, and creates a novel which rivals Douglas Adams on all counts.

Summary: There should be a specail catagory
Review: for books this good. there isn't though, but read this one anyway. i don't care which author you find Good Omens through, they both add wonderful little bits that you'll want to read a lot of. and then read again. i am on my second copy because i dog-eared and battered my first into oblivion. I was in class when i first read this, years an ago,(calc) and was reading this having finished other work, needless to say I was asked to leave since my laugh is pretty loud and i was a bit disruptive. though i must say that once i finished giggling about the myriad joys of famine and war, i was rather startled to find an apealing and strange depth to this wonderful novel, and that it's sly morality and goffy maxims keep me recomending it at least as much as its flat out free for all of humor. It's about the near death expriance of seven million folks and it'll make you feel a lot better. 7 dollars is worth it for several million smiles.

Summary: GGOD OMENS
Review: Forget Harry Potter et al, this book is a true gem. I have read it about 7 times since I bought it as a college sci fi/horror fan. It did not fulfill my expectations in those fields, but is a tresured part of my library long after Stephen King &co have been given away. Funny beyond belief and accessible at all levels. A similar and exellent book is "The princess bride".My only complaint is why no sequel? The characters have become like old friends and the closest to them Ive met since are in the movie Dogma also highly recomended.

Summary: Comedy of Errors meets Revelation?
Review: This is a fun book. Gaiman and Pratchett make Armageddon look like a really good time. I was particularly impressed by their Four Horsemen of the Apocolypse (did I spell that right?). Bedecked in red leather, their War makes Xena pale by comparison.

I gave a copy to a friend as a going-away gift. He's a religious man, but he enjoyed it immensely.

Enjoy!

Summary: As funny and witty as it gets
Review: I have read this book exactly a year ago and now am considering re-reading it. It is a highly entertaining, absorbing and funny work. At times I had to put it down because I could not concentrate too well, I was laughing too hard.

The way he treats the theme of apocalypse and doomsday is interesting and unique. It is clear that the author has an outlook of an open-minded person, not affected by any specific religious belief. The fact that he shows the dark angel as a positive character in the book only strengthens that impression.

The book is a must read to anyone who enjoyed Douglas Adams' "Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy". This book is just as funny, if not funnier.

Summary: One of my all-time favorite books
Review: I have read this book too many times to count. I have bought at least 5 copies, because every time I "lend" it to someone, I never get it back! Not that I mind, it's one of the best books I've ever read and I'm just happy to get other people reading it. While GOOD OMENS is admitedly not for the humor impaired (or for those offended by religious satire), anyone with an operating funny bone will love this book.
