Rating: Summary: A good entry level SF book Review: I enjoyed this book the first time I read it...When I was 11 years old. There was a good plot line and the writing was at such a level that I could understand it without becoming mired in "advanced" vocabulary. If you have a child or a relative 11-15 then this would be an interesting book to get them. For anyone else who happens to have more intelligence than the average 15 year old the word structure and plot line is too simplistic. I rate this at the same level as C.S. Lewis. A good beginner book
Rating: Summary: Great but with plenty of flaws Review: A gripping read, BUT there are many flaws.
First, I object to Ender's unrealistic age.
NOT because of his intelligence. But because
physically no 6-11 yr. old is capable of doing
the things in the book. He's really more like
10 years older than he's supposed to be.
Even at age 25, I found it hard to believe in
Ender as a governor of a colony.
(Ironically, after a book worth of Ender as
as a youthful child, the next book makes him
practically immortal.)
Also I couldn't stand the Mormon subtext that
Card puts in the book (you've got to look VERY
close to see the sexism and the elitism).
Also, the language bothered me and prevented
me from giving this book to my child. (How many
times must Card use the word "bastard"???)
And some of the violence is very unnecessary.
I would have liked to re-edit this book for
Card yet another time and clean up all the flaws.
Also, the demise of Peter was oh so convenient.
And I always felt Peter was misunderstood.
Furthermore, the re-appearance of Mazar was so
very perdictable. One more re-write and this
book will rate a 10.
Rating: Summary: READ IT!! Review: i dont like to read but i read this one and i can tall you it's good. good in dee
Rating: Summary: Just look at the stupid thing, ok? Review: Alright, folks, the moment of truth. We seem to have this little problem with people who either enthuse extravagantly over "Ender's Game" as God's further word to his creation, or those who got zip, zilch, nada, out of it(no offence, you middling guys who didn't do say either). If you're bothering to read these reviews(and if you're not then I don't have to worry about you) and you're not the author/publisher or previous Ender/Orson Scott Card fan, you want a little info, a little dirt on the book. So here it is.
The book...is...good. I've read plenty of others as good or just so different there's no comparison, but the book...is...good. This comes from a cartoon freak and McDonalds lover, but I do believe when it comes to books I know what's good and what's not--I've been reading just about everything since I was in kindergarten(1st grade, actually, but who cares?). The ultimate book? Nope. Haven't found that little article yet(and hope I don't for a long time)but rest assured when it comes along I'll be the first to give it a 10. Until then, this is as good as it gets.
So ok, this is my own personal opinion. I may be off by a few .ooooo's, also I may have some weird prejudices or genetic defects or something that prevent me from accurately rating this book. You'll just have to read it to find out, hmmm?
If you are so strongly convinced by this or any of the other millions of reviews that you surrender all free will and hurry to order it(which I doubt) or you just get fed up sitting around reading these reviews instead of the real thing or you want to see what all the fuss was about or you were going to get it anyway or WHATEVER, then you've got a real treat ahead of you. If not...
Ehh, your loss.
Rating: Summary: Ender's Game is a great book and everybody should read it. Review: Ender's Game is a GREAT book that put you in the mind of the main charector Ender Wiggin. The book create a picture of Ender and his situation in your mind that is so powerful you feel like you've known Ender your entire life. You can relate Ender to yourself and improve on yourself just by reading the book. Ender is just a young "prodigy"
who is responsible for defending the earth. If you haven't read this book already I strongly suggest it because in my opinion it is the best science fiction book ever written.
Rating: Summary: My best "I'll try this author" choice ever Review: Quite often I just buy a book at random to "test" the author for good books, and this book was not a disapointment. I read it during a two day periode, I just couldn't put it down.
I liked it because I got sort of pulled into Ender's world, hoping that he would win and show everybody who's the best boy on the block. I was a bit suppriced at the end, and then felt sorry for him as well as the Buggers, but I enjoyed it so much that I am looking forward to reading the rest of the sequal and other books by O.S. Card.
Rating: Summary: GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I LOVED THIS BOOK. A MUST READ FOR ALL ORSON SCOTT CARD FANS AND FANS OF THE GENRE IN GENERAL
Rating: Summary: Outstanding delve into the human condition Review: To say this book is just a Science Fiction (SF) classic would be an injustice to all those who do not read SF. The insight and understanding of the human condition and the ability to explain it in such a easy manner, makes Ender's Game one of the best book ever. Reading of how Ender thinks as each obstacle is thrown at him, gives a reader an insight into the way we all think (or hope to) and gives us a closer bond to Ender. Ender's Game is a outstanding book. A must read for all
Rating: Summary: Simple but engaging Review: If you identify with Ender--a lonely, tough, murderous-yet-sweet-and-innocent hyper-genius child prodigy--you'll love this book. You may also love this book if you like imagining the intricate details of blood-sport events. Beyond that, there isn't much here: a stock plot (executed with grace and precision, but only a couple barely-interesting twists), and precious few sci-fi ideas. Personally, though, I did identify with Ender and found this book very compelling and entertaining
Rating: Summary: Science fiction that remembers your humanity and your God Review: Ender's Game is more than the story of an earth that grooms a super-genius boy to mastermind its battle against seemingly hostile alien forces. Ender's Game is a book that initiates a conversation on the sanctity of life of all sentient creatures. How would we react to an alien intelligence that we did not understand and did not understand us? The answer to that awesome question is here as Ender Wiggin takes us along on his journey to insight and wisdom, even facing the worst of situations. Many people have thanked me for recommending this book, as I have thanked the person who recommended it to me. Thank you Anne Scott Miller
