Rating: Summary: Science Fiction where storytelling comes first. Review: Card has an amazing ability to paint a bleak picture of the human race and then pick one particular human, and make him shine. You can't help but feel for Andrew Wiggin. He's been in basic training since he was 6. He's seperated from any friends he makes, and kept out of contact with his sister, the one person who means anything to him. Oh yeah, and he's expected to save the world.
Rating: Summary: That which it is cracked up to be Review: After procrastinating for years, I bought this baby and tore through it in a day. It's well-constructed, with nothing wasted. It has clear, interesting themes, and deftly-sketched characters. And, of course, it's a rollocking good read. In the introduction, Card apologizes for the lack of hard science. I say, if you want good science, you can always go read a textbook. You want a story, you read a novel.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: It happened that I read Ender's Game after Speaker for the Dead. I didn't like Speaker for the Dead when I read it. Although the author told us Ender unwittingly eliminated the whole bugger race, I didn't understand *by heart* why Ender was so sad throughout the book. I read Ender's Game a few months later. I don't know how many readers read these two books in the same order as I did. The order does matter. I was not excited by Speaker for the Dead, therefore I was not looking for its prequel even though I knew both of them are Hugo and Nebula back-to-back winners. It was purely by chance that I only found Ender's Game when I searched for science fiction on a specific bookshelf. Then I thought, well, one book is better no book at all, I can take this book home. That was a brilliant decision. :)
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: This first story of the Ender's quartet was one of the best ones. Quickly into the book you learn to like Ender and Val. I highly suggest you read this book.
Rating: Summary: nothing better then Ender's Game!!!!!!! Review: AS i said there's notheing better than Ender's game!! My brother told me i would like this book, he read it for a senior year english assignment and told me to read too. now i love the book and am currently, mabey still by the time you read this, am reading Xenocide, the third book of the ender series the story is about a boy genius, along with a brother and sister genius, in a genius family, but when the boy is about six, a colonel(Colonel Graff) comes to ask Andrew if he would like to serve the military (of sourse he accepts) and help fight the buggers. he goes to military school, where he does not like to be called Andrew, but Ender(if you read this book and speaker for the dead you'll understand why i mentioned this as signifigant), he was given this name by his sister Valentine who couldn't pronounce his name right (who later will be known Demosthenes)who absolutley adores him but his brother Peter(who will later be known as Locke) hates and envys him. he wonders why HE wasn't chosen to go to military schol, the truth is that the IF(International Fleet) was afraid he'd turn on them and be ruler of the world, which was what his dream was. It is obvious Ender defeats the buggers, but the way he does is completely by surprise. No reader knows how till Ender does, no secrets revealed early, i loved that part, and the ending after that was incredible. Ender's life in the battle school is amazing. The sequels are just as terrific in their stories, i recomend you read the whole series, (Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind) each book is captivating in it's own story, and you don't neccesarily have to read every book, but i highly recomend it. so please join the majority, because for once you'll find the majority is to your personal standard(mabey)i suggest you read each and every review and decide for yourself i did too and i never changed my love for this book, Ender's Game captures my heart, and i love Ender as much as anyone... -Demosthenes
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I absolutely loved this book. It is very easy to identify with Ender, even though I have never been through experiences such as his. He is a compassionate, realistic character in a fantastic and futuristic world. I sat down and read this book in about a day - not being able to tear myself away. I highly recommend this book, even to those people who are not generally science fiction fans, seeing as I wan't before this book came into my hands. This is a fabulous read for anyone. If you liked this book, I would also highly recommend "The Giver" by Lois Lowry.
Rating: Summary: A must read. Review: I have never read a book that even compares to the quality of this book. If you havn't read it yet, you should pick it up immidiately along with its sequels.
Rating: Summary: If you read one book this year, read Ender's Game!! Review: I just reread this book after reading it three years ago, and it is even better this time than it was last time! The descriptions of the zero-g battles was amazing, as were all of the other intricate things throughout the book, and overall this books was very gripping in all ways. I read it in a day easily just because, even though i knew the ending, it was still too good of a book not to read. Just like some movies that are worth watching over and over again, this book is one to read and reread many times.
Rating: Summary: This is the best Sci-Fi book ever. Review: I read "Ender's Game" when I was only in 5th grade. At the time, I was intrigued not be the characters but at the astonishing premise and gritty battle scenes. Since then, I have taken the time to reread "Ender's Game" several times over, and it gets better each time. Card writes with a literacy that, while surpassed by a few unbelievable writers this century, has found its niche in this book. The characters are compelling, the plot is compelling, and the vivid descriptions are... compelling. However, one addendum. This being the first Card book I read, he had me eating out of his hand. Well, I bought the rest of the books in his Ender series, one by one. The sequel stinks, but I thought "Ok, he's just having an off year," and used this rationale to buy the third and eventually the fourth book. However, the third and fourth books stink and stink worse, respectively. This is a great book, but the series is like the Titanic: Enjoy the luxury, but get out while you can or things get cold and unenjoyable.
Rating: Summary: The games of war, the end game is to have no more. Review: Rare for a book to consume all my attention cover to cover... this one does. I have just purchased the sequential novel.
