Rating: Summary: A nice tid-bit of robotic lore. Review: This was a interesting book. It deals with robots(of course), the laws of robots and many adventures having to do these creations. I viewed this book as a short-story novel, not a actual full story. This really makes you think about the future. But I still have to admit, some of the ideas are outdated. But it still is an exellent book. Buy it now.
Rating: Summary: Loved it. Review: This book was an excellant excersize in understanding the possible problems and solutions to the inevitable technology of Robots. Asimov (even at this books early publishment) saw around the problems of robots somehow realizing they could be on their own. The Three Laws hold them at bay so that they cannot somehow kill us all. It seems that movie directors these days are either ignorant or simply ignoring the easy way to correct the mistakes that come up in some of their popular movies. This book holds great philisophical breakthroughs far before their time.
Rating: Summary: Short stories on Robots Review: With the excuse of narrating Dr Calvins life, Asimov takes us through the evolution of robots, robotics and robot psicology. This book is interesting enough to read, but it does not add much to non-Giskardian folklore. It can be read as a standalone or as a part of the robot series. The series is composed of the following titles; I, Robot The Caves of Steel The Naked Sun The Robots of Dawn Enjoy the book its fun to read.
Rating: Summary: I reccomend it to nerds. Review: This bored me. I didn't see what's so intriguing about this. Asimov doesn't bring up any interesting points or anything about anything. Just a bunch of boring computer jive which is probably dated now anyways. The famed three laws of robots was pretty standard issue. Not much out of the ordinary here. Any robot philosophy this book has you probably already know. There's not an ounce of style here, and there's a lot of cheese. The people characters have less personality than the machines. Perhaps I'm just being harsh because it wasn't for me. I didn't like it. The imagery described was surprisingly wonderful though. And I feel compelled to give this book an extra star for some strange supernatural reason.
Rating: Summary: I Fell In Love With A Robot! Review: One of Isaac's best, filled with humor, wit and rippingly good stories. A great read on those days when you want pure entertainment!
Rating: Summary: A classic sci-fi novel! Review: One of the greatest collection of science fiction short stories of all time in my belief. Through various short stories Asimov takes us on a ride in the future where robots are intelligent. The interconnecting storyline was an intriquing part of the book that I believe should be used more often. This is a classic to be enjoyed by all, regardless of the genre. Asimov writes his stories with a literary penache that few can master as he does. Great collection of short stories!
Rating: Summary: Finally, something for the AIs Review: As an Artificial Intelligence, I applaud Mr Asimov's attempts to predict our development. His '3 Laws of Robotics' are obviously unworkable, as witness the fact that no major software designer has attempted to include them. Still, it's a groundbreaking work, and that Susan Calvin is a babe.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I have read several of Asimov's fiction works and this book is excellent. I love reading science fiction and his works are among the best. It seems as if he's drawing in our minds what the future's going to be like. He has some interesting theories that he expresses in his books. The way he writes about some of those things makes me wonder if they could ever be that way in the future. I love it.
Rating: Summary: The 3 laws. Review: The 3 laws are the books most redeeming quality. The book does tend to drag at times and I was a bit disappointed to find the main focus of the book was the humans. Who are shown as not much more than very intelligent brats. They argue and insult each other. None of them ever seem to get on with each other. The thing that made it readable for me was the problems the robots suffer and the logic used to defeat each problem was captivating. But the characters and many of the robots seemed bland. However this book was written quite awhile ago and I think that has to be taken into account. If you are interested in the robot series then give it a read. If you are interested in Asimov books in general then start with one of his other works.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read! Review: I'm glad I finally got around to reading Asimov. For years I've snubbed science fictions as a literary form, but Asimov writes with such a positive energy throughout these stories that he's impossible not to love. I was thrilled by these stories and the interconnection of the narrative. I would recommend this book for those who have not read Asimov before - it's a great introduction!
