Rating: Summary: Fascinating and Enticing Read Review: Interesting chronicle through the eyes of a robopsychologist who has been there from the beginning. Very possible ideas for the near future. A good read. Keeps you turning the pages. One thing good about it is that it is not a book that has a continual story (timewise) but jumps around to important, but fictional, events that lead to the ultimate perfection of the robot.
Rating: Summary: ? Review: I read this long ago and don't remember much. I think it was another mystery as all his 'Robot' novels are. I don't really care for mysteries or the 'Robot' series.
Rating: Summary: Classics. But I do have a favorite. Review: This is one of the classic anthologies of science fiction. Mr.Asimov is able to really spin great stories just out of the three laws of robotics. My favorite? It has to be 'Little Lost Robot', I think this is a better story than 'Nightfall', a story that perennially wins the title of "Best Ever Science Fiction Short Story'. Of course, as everyone knows, the best science fiction short story of all time is "A Boy And His Dog" by Harlan Ellison.
Rating: Summary: Asimov writes the best books ever writen in English Review: "I Robot" is a tuchstone novel of the entire Sci-Fi genera. This is one of the best written books I have ever read; the characters are intersting and so are the situations they get into.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic story crafting Review: Asimov was genius of the first order in sci-fi writing. I Robot displays how adept he was at forming fantastic plots, simply using three little rules. Each story in I Robot has the same theme, there is a complication in a robot or a group of robots due to one of the three laws of robotics, but each story has a definate feel and problem that is taotally and utterly unique.
I Robot shows what real science fiction is and a true sci-fi fan well relish every word of it.
Rating: Summary: Thought inducing.... (that's a good thing) Review: Asimov gives the reader everything he needs to know to solve these geat robotic problems. That's the way I believe Asimov should be read, by thining ahead to what the next step should be. If this is done, the greatness of Asimov's work shows through, and it is like making an important discovery around every corner. A must read for anyone who thinks they are logically minded!
Rating: Summary: Asimov's look into the future of the computer mind. Review: When I first read I, Robot, a friend looked at the back of the book and read Asimov's three laws of Robotics. He then said, "So the book's about robots who break the laws." He couldn't have been move wrong. Asimov dosen't follow that easy route. Instead his book is about robots that obey too well. I, Robot is an interesting look into the 'mind' of a computer, and the problems presented in getting a computer to do what you want, safely. And like most of Asimov, these short stories are presented a combination of mystery and science-fiction. Each story has the reader looking for a solution, and presents a logical and well thought out answer. I, Robot is Asimov map of the future of robotics, and the stumbling stones that will be encountered.
Rating: Summary: Futuristic cheese Review: I was fairly disappointed with this book. It didn't take long to figure out that it was actually a collection of a few related short stories.
Although the ideas Mr. Asimov presented were interesting, the plots of the stories were all exactly the same: Robot messes up, the Dynamic Duo realizes it's due to some kind of error regarding the 3 Robotic Commandments, so they cleverly come up with some kind of hacked solution.
It isn't really all that great. _I, Robot_ is
my first, and probably last, Isaac Asimov book.
His writing seems characteristic of an author who is too prolific - hackneyed, overused, etc.
Rating: Summary: Not the "classic" that I expected. Review: I thought Asimov was very clever with his science-fiction insights, but I was left with a sense of dissatisfaction. This is more of a collection of short stories that are sharing a common theme. It lacked the congruity and depth of a novel. If you begin with the expectation of a few good stories, rather than a classic sci-fi saga, perhaps you will be less disappointed than I was
Rating: Summary: First of the Robot series. Review: This novel is one of the best known of Asimov's novels. It has been copied by many other authors and is the basis for many of the hopes for creating robots and androids in the future.
It is one of those novels you must read and own as part of your sci-fi collection.
