Rating: Summary: Enjoyable but nothing new Review: Ms. Grant writes a sound story, but it is nothing I haven't read before. The romance element is strongest with main characters you will cheer for. Secondary characters, with the potentinal to really pop, are a bit thin. The world Ms. Grant creates is a bit underexplored and the villian in the story could have played a more interesting role. The opening sequence of the novel is wonderful and overall the book is a fun read. If you enjoy space-faring romance, this is a book for you.

Rating: Summary: Another star, Susan Grant, has arrived Review: The first fourteen pages of this book will make you wonder how I could have given this book any stars; but hold on, a wild ride of pure pleasure is coming. If you are a reader of futuristic romance, you will note right away that Ms. Grant's setting has nothing new or very exciting about it. But her characters are clean, sharp, fresh and exciting. Jasmine Boswell Hamilton (Jas) and Romlijhian B'kah (Rom)are two characters you will always remember with a smile. They first meet as very young adults, that's what the first fourteen dull pages are about, then twenty years and a lot of heart ache later they meet again. They bring all of their old baggage with them to this new relationship and it is just a joy to read about two mature adults interacting with each other and finding love amoung chaos. It helps you to understand that it is never too late to find love and that sometimes it's just better the second time around. As you may have noted, I have not realy said one word about the story line. The less you know I think the better you will enjoy it. I read it in one day, then took two days to reread some of the best parts. This is a keeper, I will read it again and again over the years.
Rating: Summary: Not just for readers of Sci-Fi Romance or Futuristics Review: The heroine of THE STAR KING, Jasmine Boswell Hamilton, is a former pilot turned artist now living in Arizona, the divorced mother of twin teenagers. She has had visions of a mysterious man ever since an accident which halted her Air Force career years previously. When aliens visit earth, Jasmine, tired of putting her life on hold, decides what she needs is a bit of adventure and talks her way onto the airship piloted by the man from her vision, Romlijhian B'kah - a man who has been an outcast from his family, the rulers of the planet Sienna, ever since a tragedy nineteen years earlier. A more sensual hero than Rom would be hard to find in any romance. Readers will also love Jas - an over 40 heroine with a less-than-perfect body which Rom finds very sexy. Even if you or you haven't read a science fiction or aviation romance before, this is a story which truly proves love is timeless and I encourage you to give THE STAR KING a try. Trust me, it's a book difficult to put down once begun. Readers will be chomping at the bit for THE STAR PRINCE in 2001.
Rating: Summary: This book touched me... Review: The Star King is a well-written romance. The characters are fun, the romance is captivating. But this book towers over the competition because it is so much more than that. Susan Grant has written a self-help book in disguise for women that think life is over when their marraige fails. Jas, the heroine, at first blames herself for the problems leading to her divorce. Although she is bright, successful, and loved by friends and family, in her heart she doubts she will ever find the man she "sees" in her dreams, a faithful and true love, a man who's able to give her back the passion she once was capable of feeling. It takes one man, a tortured once-and-future prince, coming to her from across the stars, to slowly teach her that she deserves, and should expect, to be treasured by a man. The romance, the humor, the writing rich with vivid imagery, is all wonderful. But the feel-good sense of self-worth that a reader steps away with? Priceless.
Rating: Summary: SciFi Romance at its best Review: THE STAR KING Susan Grant Lovespell/Perfect Heroes December 2000 THE STAR KING by Susan Grant is a marvelous peek into one view of what the not so distant future could hold. Space travel, optimism and above all, romance! On Earth, Lieutenant Jasmine Boswell is a fighter pilot struggling for her life after being mistakenly shot down by friendly fire. On Balkanor, Romlijhian (Rom) B'kah, has also been shot down and is dying of radiation poisoning. These two meet in a vision that helps sustain them until help appears. Twenty years later, even tho she has been divorced and has grown children, Jasmine is still haunted by the vision she believes is a dream. Rom is also haunted, but believes the vision is reality and hunts for Jasmine through the universe. Rom, is a trader. After being cast off by his family years before during the war that almost cost his life, he has wondered through the universe trading goods, helping those less fortunate and looking for Jasimine. When he lands on Earth, Jasmine sees him on televison as part of the trading delegation. She doesn't understand why he would be in her dream or why she is compelled to see him again; but she dons her old uniform and infiltrates the Air Force base that houses the space ships and stows away on Rom's ship. Jasmine and Rom have quite a time adjusting to each other's customs and way of life. Trust does not come easily even tho they are physically drawn to each other. Rom's old adversary reappears and Jasmine does everything she can to help Rom eliminate this threat to his planet. THE STAR KING is advertised as an 'aviation romance'. It is a science fiction romance. When aliens land on earth with trading ventures in mind, to me, that is science fiction. The main focus is, of course, romance. The true life mating between two adults destined to be together Science fiction romance is a new venue for Susan Grant. Her previous book ONCE A PIRATE was an attention riveting time travel. Both genres were done very well, but since my personal preference is for romantic science fiction, I only hope she will continue to write science fiction romance, especially focusing on the mature characters that appeal so greatly in this story. THE STAR KING will attract science fiction readers of Anne McCaffery and Andre Norton since it is a natural bridge for romance readers who like fiction, futuristics, or science fiction. The sequel THE STAR PRINCE is eagerly awaited. Reviewed by Vicki Patterson
Rating: Summary: Susan Grant will Wow! your socks off with THE STAR KING Review: THE STAR KING, by Susan Grant, was absolutely fabulous. The idea of openly bringing aliens to Earth for first contact, for peaceful negotiations, was refreshing and completely believable. Though I had a hard time picturing these adventurous characters being in their forties (for some reason, I always picture characters my own age), their issues, especially Rom's were very deep and three-dimensional, making this reader care what happened from page one. If you're a futuristic lover or just like good Science Fiction, be sure to grab a copy of THE STAR KING. You'll love it. Also, don't miss the sequel, THE STAR PRINCE, due out in November.
Rating: Summary: A good adventure-romance Review: There is no doubt that this book has a great, original, story line. It's action-packed plot and mature characters make for a nice change from your common romantic novels. Jas and Rom form a well matched couple whose relationship and adventures kept me glued to the pages. So why three stars only? Well... For one, I like the presence of sexual tension between the two protagonists, and this, I did not find here. Second, I was slightly dispointed with the ending. After presenting Jas as a strong female lead, she was left in the background for the last bit of the action which was not described. Thus, I found myself wishing for an other 50 pages, in which both Jas and Rom partake in a big finale. Overall, The Star King is a book I thouroughly enjoyed, and I would recomend it, especially if you are getting bored with the common formula found in most romantic novels. However, I don't think I will include it to my 're-read' pile.
Rating: Summary: The worst book I have ever read Review: This has got to be the worst book I have ever read. Mainly because it was so unrealistic....The book tried to give the impression one momement of a young woman, yet threw in details that destroyed the illusion. After all, she does have twins going to college. I flipped and flipped pages trying to get to the good part. This book was just plain boring. I will say chapter one held much promise but it ended by chapter two. I am not a reviewer but this book is a total waste of money.
