Rating: Summary: Strong heroine and lots of aliens Review: I have always been a lover of SciFi and have recently gained interest in SciFi-Romances. But I'm pretty picky about what I like. I like aliens, good and bad. Starships and Spacetravel. Give me a good plot with some suspense, laughs, thrills and chills. Leave the weakminded heroines stuck in the 50s behind. I'll pass on the swashbucklers too.Susan Grant has filled all the requirements in this book and more. Jas is an ex-fighter pilot. A very strong woman with a mind of her own and a yearning for adventure. She finds it on the ship owned by Rom from the Vash empire He's a stubborn and hardheaded ex-king. Together they get themselves into some pretty tight places but they fight and survive as a team. This is the first of a trilogy. The series is excellent. Ms. Grant paints a detailed and colorful world. The SciFi gets equal time with the building relationship of Jas and Rom. I highly recommend the entire series.
Rating: Summary: A beautifully written, emotionally heartwarming love story Review: I have never read science fiction, always believing that they had little or no romance or interaction between the characters. Not so with THE STAR KING. This book captivated me as no book has done in a long time. It flowed beautifully. I lived and breathed this story, visited every planet, saw every color, and experienced every emotion. I felt the passion between Rom and Jas and I fell totally, completely, and unabashedly in love with Rom. I hated to see this story end, and look forward to the sequel. The writing is crisp, dialogue easy to understand, the humor is wonderful, and it's filled with sexual tension! The story is fast paced, yet the technology doesn't get in the way of the romance. When the action and adventure culminated in a wonderfully emotional and very surprising ending, I had goose bumps all over from it! Don't let your reluctance to read a science fiction book keep you from experiencing this beautifully written and emotionally heartwarming love story. This is a must read for all lovers of romance and science fiction alike!
Rating: Summary: I'm speechless! Review: I loved Ms. Grant's first book ONCE A PIRATE so I eagerly picked up THE STAR KING, even though I'm not a science fiction fan. I surprised myself by being hooked by the first page. Jas and Rom are not the typical hero/heroine--they're unique and wonderful and fill this story from cover to cover. The outerspace/sci fi parts of this book complete the romance but never overshadow it. It becomes a lush backdrop to the developing story, characters and romance, creating a book that will be on my keeper shelf forever. I'm begging Ms. Grant to hurry up with THE STAR PRINCE so I can read it!
Rating: Summary: Heavenly!!!!! Review: I loved this book. I simply could not put it down, and I didn't want the story to end! I found this book to be an intense story of love, and electrifying romance. My heart is lost to Rom...his sense of love, duty and devotion brought tears to my eyes. And his love of American Beer was endearing. Susan Grant has created a classic.. This is definately a keeper to revisit again...They definatly do not make men like this on earth! Fortunately there is the Star Prince to follow. I simply cannot say enough about this story.....

Rating: Summary: Great!!! Review: I really enjoyed reading a science fiction story that was true to life. We would all like to hope there is life beyond this galaxy and this story makes it believable. The other life beings are similar, just more advanced in their technology. And, best of all, I enjoyed reading about characters who had some life experiences prior to meeting each other. It gets very old reading the same story about 18 to 24 year old women and about 30 year old men ... I had already read her "Once a Pirate" and am VERY glad that I didn't miss this one! I will be SURE not to miss any of her future books!!!

Rating: Summary: Perfect love story for dreamers Review: I used to live in the Detroit area, where my commute routinely took me beneath a bridge that contained this graffiti: Mars Needs Women! Every time I saw that I always found myself saying, "Hey, I'll go!" If you've ever fantasized about gorgeous aliens landing on Earth, extending their hands and saying, "Come with me to the stars," this book is for you. The heroine and hero, Jas and Rom, meet on a sort of dream plane when she's a young fighter pilot during the Gulf War and he's the heir to a powerful alien family who has gone against his family's wishes to eradicate a powerful cult leader. Their encounter destroys both of their lives. When they meet 20 years later, Rom's race has just made first contact with Earth. Jas sees Rom on television and recognizes him as the man who has haunted her dreams. She sneaks her way on to Andrews Air Force Base and cons her way on board Rom's vessel. At that point, sparks fly, because of course, Rom recognizes Jas as the woman who has haunted *his* dreams. Lest this sound very angst-ridden, I must hasten to say it is not. THE STAR KING is a delightful, humor-filled romance about two intelligent, mature people who discover that love the second time around is the best.
Rating: Summary: A Five Star Read from Susan Grant Review: I was up until 1:30am Christmas Eve, not wrapping presents but finishing The Star King. Susan Grant's first book, Once A Pirate is a delightful frolic in the sun; this story touches the depths of human emotion. The Star King starts with a bang, literally, as Jasmine Hamilton fights to keep her F-16 fighter plane in the air. Shot down by friendly fire over the hot Iraqi desert, she has an out of body experience that leaves her awash with unexplainable emotion. Rom B'kah's otherworldly perspective of the unusual woman with dark hair is one of meeting his destiny. He is in the midst of a battle of galactic proportions with life-threatening injuries and has just witnessed his brother's death. Her presence both encourages and dooms him, he survives because of her but the physical ramifications of lingering too long in a hostile environment make him an outcast from his family. Susan's interpretation of an alien arrival into earth's politics is refreshing--for example no one automatically speaks our languages. And this story is above all a ROMANCE. She doesn't bog us down with boring technical data about how things work or lengthly descriptions of weird life forms with antenna eyes and suction cup fingers. Readers will find The Star King a very satisfying read with plenty of adventure, excitement and soul-searing love. I highly recommend The Star King and believe readers of any genre of romantic fiction will be enchanted.
Rating: Summary: Strong heroine and lots of aliens Review: Ms. Grant writes a sound story, but it is nothing I haven't read before. The romance element is strongest with main characters you will cheer for. Secondary characters, with the potentinal to really pop, are a bit thin. The world Ms. Grant creates is a bit underexplored and the villian in the story could have played a more interesting role. The opening sequence of the novel is wonderful and overall the book is a fun read. If you enjoy space-faring romance, this is a book for you.
