Summary: Fun read; author shows potential
Review: I picked this up for a quick fun read and it was certainly that! I was laughing throughout most of the book and enjoyed the characters. However, the book will not be a "re-reader" for me. The author does have a few things she could work on. Characters are snickering practically every page, plot points are made too quickly, and the "book excerpts" were more confusing than anything else.

I'll keep an eye out for other books by Davidson. She could be a very good author if she can develop her stories a mite better.

Summary: Wow.
Review: I say "wow" not because this book was good, but because of how different Ms. Davidson's writing was in this book! It was horrid. Sure she still has the sharp wit that we've seen in the Undead series and the setting of the story was really interesting, but what happened to the flow of the story? All of a sudden the lead character is at the castle and meeting the prince! I thought there was SUPPOSED to be a plot somewhere. Or maybe a little character development. Oh, Mary Janice. I still love ya, but I'm really going to have to try to forget this horrendous read.

Review: I snatched this book at the store when I saw it and never regretted it. Christina Krabbe alone and unemployed picked up by a Cruise ship with a crazy, but lovable King with a lot of kids, one who is named David who is eligble and enjoys penguins. I will not go into any more, but to tell you to read and enjoy. I want a sequel Mrs. Davidson, one featuring Alexa, Katheryn, and their youngest brother. I WANT MOREEEEEE OF THIS FAMILY........... Full of humor and fun

Summary: Another fun treat from Ms. Davidson!
Review: I so love Mary Janice Davidson. Her novels are always a fun treat. I loved Undead and Unwed and Thief of Hearts and couldn't wait to read another one of her books. The Royal Treatment is a hilarious trip from beginning to end! I loved reading Christina's tale of going from a common orphan working as a cook for cruise lines to the potential Queen of Alaska. In this awesome novel, Alaska hadn't become a state and was in fact a country in its own right. And Christina's misadventures with the eccentric royal family made me laugh from beginning to end.

There have been complaints that this novel and its characters are caricature at best and that there is too much banter throughout the novel. I've also read here that Christina has an unmistakable resemblance to Undead and Unwed's Betsy Taylor. I agree with the latter part. Christina is edgy and sarcastic, just like Betsy... I couldn't help but notice that the two characters are almost identical. But the novel's satirical language and caricature manner are what make the story special to me. I like a story that can make me laugh, and I pick up fiction of this sort because I expect the same. So, people should not pick up this book and expect something serious or thought provoking. This is a no-fuss romantic read for laughs. And I happen to love banter. Mary Janice Davidson has become one of my favorite authors of the romance genre. I recommend this book as an excellent beach read!

Summary: Diving in the Shallow End
Review: If I were a stranger in a strange land, I too would welcome the open arms of a Gentle Ben king and his kooky family; however, I would move at a much slower pace and with a little less confidence. Christina Krabbe (silent "e") is just a little too confident. I never thought I would say that about a character, but once you breeze through this lighthearted romance, you'll see what I mean. My least favorite thing about certain romance novels is a heroine that is so self-absorbed, she's always right, always "cute," and wins over everybody. You know the kind that falls into a pile of You-Know-What and comes out smelling like a rose. Sadly to say, Christina is loved by all - family, press, and household staff (even an ex-boyfriend) with the eye-rolling exasperation of the too-cute-for words, "Oh, it's just Christina" excuse that is beat to death with every scene.
This could be a great series. Fast-paced dialogue, quirky characters, and a fantastic setting. Next time do the reader a favor and give us characters with a little more depth. Poor David, clueless as he appears (a little unrealistic that the "Sexiest Royal Alive" would be so socially delayed at 30-something he wouldn't know how to woo a woman), could have been a hero to remember, but....Christina's annoying demeanor overshadows any other character's personality, kinda like a bull in a china shop.

Summary: creative enjoyable alternate historical romance
Review: In 1863, America embroiled in a Civil War failed to buy Alaska. Instead, Alaska led by the Baranovs broke free from Russia. A kingdom was declared with a Baranov sitting on the throne.

Over a century later, King Alexander II sneaks out of the Sitka Palace masquerading as a sea captain. He meets marooned American Christina Krabbe, who explains how she beat up her boss for groping her and is now out of work. Al decides that she is the perfect person to marry his oldest son, Prince David and would make the ideal Queen for Alaska.

The next day Chris joins Al and his five offspring for lunch. David is impressed with her and asks Chris to marry him, but she declines. David tries a little woo, but Chris tells him no woo-woo. She does not want to be a queen. David's sister asks Chris what her deceased beloved mom would want for her. Thus Chris agrees to marry David. Before they escape on their honeymoon, a Domonov shoots Al with an animal tranquilizer leaving him in a coma while trying to abduct David's brother leaving the royal honeymooners struggling with ruling not loving.

ROYAL TREATMENT is a creative enjoyable alternate historical romance that fans will appreciate due to the humorous interrelationship between the royal family, their retinue, and the commoner. Each key cast member has a unique personality and the cameo appearances of real people like Queen Elizabeth II and Bill Gates adds a sense of reality to the tale. Though the attempted abduction adds unnecessary suspense, readers will gain immense pleasure with MaryJanice Davidson's offbeat treatment of an alternate Alaska.

Summary: Very Funny
Review: In an alternate reality, Alaska was never sold to the US. It became a kingdom ruled by a very unusual family. King Alexander is masquerading as a fishing guide, when he meets Christina Krabbe, an unemployed cook. He offers her a job, but has much more in mind for her. When she shows up at the palace, she becomes his guest, and meets his family. David, the crown prince is obsessed with penquins and keeps them in a habitat in the palace, Alexandria, is beautiful, but thinks everyone is after her money, Alexander speaks only in Haiku, Kathryn doesn't speak at all and throws food, and Nicholas developes and obsession with her underwear. If quickly becomes apparent that Al, as the king likes to be called, wasn't offering her the job she had on the cruise ship, but was hoping that she would marry David and take on the job as crown princess. After a short time she accepts, and the events leading up to the wedding are hilarious.

Ms. Davidson's novels are always alot of fun and I really couldn't find out much about this one before I bought it. I am really glad I did. I read it in one sitting, laughing out loud at times.

Summary: Funny and Cute!
Review: It seems that every time I read one of Mary Janice Davidson's books in public, I get weird glances thrown my way. This is because I'm laughing out loud at some of the hilarious situations and phrases Davidson weaves into her writing! Her dialogue is always a laugh a minute, and the characters all seem to capture your heart almost immediately.

Christina Krabbe, after insulting the King of Antarctica and speaking boldly and brazenly to his majesty, was selected by the King to be his eldest son's bride! Though far from an arranged marriage, King Alexander was charmed by Chris' open manner and, well, rather foul mouth. An open person was a breath of fresh air in the stuffy world of monarchies and royal families.

Upon meeting Chris, the crown prince David is immediately attracted to her, and soon after meeting, he proposes. Much to David's shock, Chris turns him down cold, in no uncertain terms! Much hilarity ensues with their whirlwind courtship and ultimately, their marriage.

Though the plot seems to be a little too short to fill the book, the main and minor characters more than make up for it! Each character is as amusing as the last: Christina and David, the quirky, quarrelling couple; Edmund Dante, the sarcastic, hulking butler; King Alexander, (call me Al) the avid fisherman and keen wit extraordinaire.

'The Royal Treatment' was as hilarious and as charming as the heroine herself, and that is a tall order. If you're in the mood for a light read with thoroughly likable characters, then you'd do well to pick up a copy of this book for yourself!

Summary: Another Fun Book By Ms. Davidson!
Review: Ms. Davidson is fast becoming a very entertaining author in the romantic comedy genre. Although this has not been my favorite by this author I was still entertained.

In the latest offering of Ms. Davidson she takes a "might have been" approach and turns Alaska into it's own country with its own monarchy. Christina is a down on her luck American that happens to run into the King of Alaska and manages to amuse him enough that he offers her a place to stay with the hope that she will appeal to his son David the heir apparent. The man needs to get married! What follows is a fun look at the American take on royalty and the developing relationship between two people that are total opposites!

There are some moments that are not too terribly funny and the joke fell flat or perhaps Christina was being too obnoxious and to irrelevant for the situation (remember we are talking about a royal family here) and would detract from the story. Thankfully these were few and far between.

For a laugh out loud read that will entertain you for a day you can't beat Ms. Davidson.

Summary: Highly Entertaining
Review: The biggest question I ask when reading a book, especially romantic comedy is "Do I want the time I spent reading this back?" With "The Royal Treatment," the answer is "no." Charming and delightful, it was a quick and easy read that had me laughing from start to finish. The characters are delightfully drawn and instantly likeable. I did find the plotting a *bit* skimpy around the edges, and never really felt there was any serious threat to the couple's ending up together, but the characterizations were so enjoyable that it carried me through and convinced me to try another of Ms. Davidson's books.

If you're looking for a light summer read, this is absolutely the ticket.
