Summary: Ms. Canham - Storyteller Extraordinaire
Review: Ms. Canham is truly amazing and has woven a tale of imagery and complexity. The Last Arrow is not a "light" romp but wrung all possible emotions as I was immersed in the era of chivalry as well as violence. She has developed three dimensional characters and one of the most bloodthirsty villianess--Solange de Sancerre. Bittersweet subplots (Henry and Eleanor, the death of Gil, Robin and Marienne) required a box of kleenex. The story is rich in details (one can almost smell, see and feel the pageantry of the jousting fields). But what stands out for me is Ms. Canham's creativity and imagination. Undoubtedly she has taken some literary license with regard to the Robin Hood legend, but never again will I forget Marsha's version of the Robin of Locksley, the King of Sherwood, Will Scarlett and, most especially, Friar Tuck, as well as Alan a Dale.My hats off to Ms. Canham. It is obvious that this lady cares about her characters and the quality of her book. This was a romance and an epic. Unfortunately, it's the end of the trilogy although I wonder about Griffyn's son (did he survive?) or perhaps a tale about Will and Rhiannon.(Maggie

Summary: A must-read.
Review: The last and unquestionably the best book of the trilogy. The books establish an alternate version of history behind Robin Hood's legend, the basis for Magna Carta, and the fates of Arthur and Eleanor - heirs to the English throne. Canham delivers great action and adventure alongside the sensual tension between Griffyn and Brenna. She doesn't mince words. Blood and gore are expertly mixed with some steamy sex scenes and lively dialogue.

Griffyn is the "Prince of Darkness" (cliche, I know), while Brenna is a spirited young lady handy with a longbow. After some panting - and Griffyn is worth it - she succumbs to temptation to tup him. Unfortunately, Griffyn has a grudge against Brenna's brother and was commissioned to kill him at a tournament. At this point the romance goes south while action picks up. A nasty political plot to eliminate Eleanor calls the band to England where Griffyn is revealed to be >>> (read the book). Happy End.

Unlike many authors perfecting romance, action, sensuality, character development, or humor individually, Canham delivers a strong combination of everything. True, her historic and character scope come at a price of some main character underdevelopment, but make the book infinitely less cumbersome than Drums of Autumn ('War and Peace' of Romance).

Summary: I can't read enough of Marsha Canham's books!
Review: The Last Arrow follows Through a Dark Mist and In the Shadow of Midnight. Again, the forest is always in the background along with the "dark" and mysterious characters. I loved the first encounter of Brenna and Griffin - her "ability" is so wonderful and so deliciously astounding to all the male population (except, of course, her own family). I did do a lot of crying while reading this marvelous tale of "Robin Hood" and the "could have beens" of such a fantastic era of history. Yes, I could believe in Robin Hood with Marsha Canham's ability to tell the story.

Summary: I finally found my Robin Hood
Review: The Last Arrow is the third book in a trilogy that began with Through A Dark Mist. I thought I had found the basis for a heroic legend in the Black Wolf of Lincoln, but even though the Wolf made a dark and dangerous and suitably exciting hero, I wandered off course slightly and knew he wasn't Robin Hood. (He did, however, win a KISS award from Romantic Times, as well as Best Book of the Year) A year and a book later, I returned to Medieval England in order to continue the storyline with Eduard FitzRandwulf, the Wolf's illegitimate son, thinking again that HE might turn out to be my Robin Hood. Again I was wrong, but In The Shadow of Midnight received another two awards: the KISS, and Best Medieval of the Year. While writing it, I took the liberty of including some characters (strictly for my own amusement) that suggested they might have become, some time in the future, members of Robin Hood's merry men. I had the maid, Marienne, Friar Tuck, Will of the Scarlet Eyes, even Alan a' Dale. Not to mention a blind princess who sought refuge in Kirklees abbey, and a prince turned King who made his former Champion, Sir Guy of Gisbourn, the High Sheriff of Nottingham. And there was Robin, just a squire in 'Midnight', but aging nicely into a champion and hero for The Last Arrow. I have, however, taken perverse pleasure in in skirting around the edges of the actual legend, choosing instead to suggest how the many elements of several heroic characters contributed to the making of the fabled Prince of Thieves. I hope I have done justice to Robin, as well as to the many readers who wroted and asked if I intended to finish the story begun in Through A Dark Mist. Feel free to e-mail me

Summary: My favorite book by Marsha
Review: The last arrow was the first book of Marsha's that I ever read. I must say that when I had finished, I could not wait to buy all the others. Brenna and Gryfin are captivating characters that make a reader instantly empathize with them. This book is full of heart stopping moments that make it impossible to stop at the end of any chapter. The ending is classic and makes me want to know when we'll get to read about these amazing characters again?

Summary: Fantastic Escapism
Review: This was my first foray into Marsha Canham's writing. She absolutely hit the target on this novel. I havn't read the first two books to this trilogy, and it didn't hamper my understanding. The heroine is not all threats and huffy ineptitude as many historical romance ladies are. When she threatens, she has more than enough pluck to back it up. The cast of characters Ms Canham built and animated was remarkable. Each had a depth, each had a story. The myth of Robin Hood was brought brilliantly to life in a believable and sophisticated way. She has managed to avoid all the legend's stereotypical pitfalls. Definately a worthwhile read..I plan on seeking out the rest of the author's works.
