Rating: Summary: 5 stars for Ms. Moning!!! Review: I loved it!!! But I love all of her books. I couldn't put it down. She is excellent at creating a great romantic story that enables you to leave your hectic life for a little while and have some adventures through the characters in her book.
Rating: Summary: Write faster Karen! Review: I loved the sensuality in this book, it created so much tension that I nearly read it in one sitting! Ms Moning has written a well crafted, emotional piece with engaging characters. I just loved Daegus, and Chloe was a perfect foil for his darkness. Excellent reading, cannot wait for the next one!
Rating: Summary: I'm Giving Away My Copy of "Dark Highlander" for a Penny! Review: I absolutely loved everything about "Kiss of the Highlander" and I couldn't wait to buy the sequel with Daegus' dark and dangerous adventure. But when I actually got it...beware, spoilers ahead: Chloe's character bored and annoyed me throughout the novel. Her attitude basically stunk (cynicism, distrust and more than a little insecurity), and it showed in most of her dialogue/thought scenes with Daegus. And because of that elephant-sized chip on her shoulder she was emotionally blind for most of the book and didn't see that Daegus had deep feelings for her, and it was very obvious (to us, anyway) that he had fallen HARD (and I still fail to see why). That is, until around a quarter before the end of the book when she suddenly realizes that she loved him (gasp of surprise). I also didn't like the constant bribing that Daegus had to do in order to get Chloe to help him, go with him to Scotland, for her to do anything for him. It's as if she should have worn a sign saying "will sell self for ancient Celt relics." Maybe she should have asked for a better personality in the deal... I did see a few minor similarities between Chloe and Gwen from "Kiss of the Highlander," but I infinitely preferred Gwen to this novel's cookie-cutter heroine. I can't help but chuckle over the teaser lines on the back cover, "she will soon face the challenge of a lifetime: fighting thirteen evil spirits for the heart of one irresistable man..." Chloe didn't fight for anything in this book (except maybe that would-be assassin), and especially not for Daegus' heart. She just coasted along, thinking "all he wants is to take me to bed, blah blah..." Daegus was ultra-sexy, noble, passionate and the only reason that I continued reading the book to the end was because I wanted to know what would happen to HIM. Ah, those lion-gold eyes...and that scene on the airplane! My God! I would gladly use up ALL of my frequent flyer miles if I could sit next to him! An interesting point was made by another reviewer about the 13 dark spirits, and I have to agree. They didn't DO anything! Everyone in the book was talking about how evil and dangerous they were, but all they did really was change the color of Daegus' eyes! BOO! And another point was made about the use of magic; Drustan was able to use all kinds of magic in "Kiss," so why not Daegus too? He only used a handful of spells in the book, and they didn't seem "dangerous" enough to make his soul turn dark by casting them. I wanted to know more about that secret society, but there were only a handful of scenes (or vignettes even) that had the bad guys in it. I was shocked when that guy jumped out of the window after a failed attempt to kill Chloe (too bad that he didn't succeed), and I wanted to know what drove the whole organization. It just wasn't explained to my satisfaction. In the "Highlander" series of novels, I've only read this one and "Kiss," so I was completely thrown off by the references to Adam Black. The sex was sizzlingly erotic in this book, but unlike "Kiss" it didn't have much chemistry involved between the two main characters. It's hot stuff, but it's almost like sex for it's own sake. I'm not trying to sound harsh, but that's how I thought of the book after the first reading. And I even read it a second time to see if I would feel the same; there was no improvement.
Rating: Summary: Complete[ly] [Weak] Review: How Karen Marie Moning has the courage to put her photo on the back flap of this book, I will never know. To be willingly identified as the author of such [stuff] is brave indeed. [Cheap thrills] disguised as romantic fiction is an old genre, and this book does not pretend to be anything else, but it is arousing only if your idea of a desirable male is defined solely by arrogance and physicality. Knowing that there are women who feel lust for the fictional Daegus MacKeltar makes me ashamed to be a woman. The writing is shallow, the storyline is shallow, the characterization is shallow. I would give it 0 stars out of 5, but Amazon.com doesn't allow ratings that low.
Rating: Summary: I could just imagine Review: I really liked The Dark Highlander. I thought the characters were well thought out an imaginative. Dageus MacKeltar was certainly a man to stir my blood, so to speak. I liked the time hopping although I am sure it could be disconcerting to the person it was happening to. I loved the part where Dageus came home and found Chloe under his bed. All of the partment/captive section was very sexy and intriguing. I agree that it probably would have been better if I had read the previous story about his brother. Even so, it is a stand a lone quality book. I am now reading about his brother and how Dageus MacKeltar really came to be in that situation in the first place. I think Karen Marie Moning is a gifted writer with a wonderful imagination and sense of fun. Karen has a real talent for bring her characters to life in her stories. I am going to read all of her novels.
Rating: Summary: Dageus is.....WOW Review: Dark Highlander, the sequel to Kiss of the Highlander brings us Dageus, twin brother to Drustan. Dageus is living in the future, fighting a constant battle with the evil beings who have invaded his soul. He was cursed because he went back in time to save his twin brother who died while in an enchanted sleep. This story like the rest of the series one of the best I have ever read. Please keep this series coming, I don't ever want to see it end.
Rating: Summary: Love conquers all ...really!!! Review: I thought Ms. Moning had done an incredible job than the Kiss of the Highlander. I can't beleive she did an even better job with The Dark Highlander! The characters were so compelling that I couldn't put the book down (a feat considering I started reading it on Christmas Day). You could feel the evil battling in Dageus and all the love Chloe had to give him to heal. You could really feel like you were Chloe, seeing a bad boy and wanting to make everything all right. The sex was extremely hot, which played well with this book as the theme was based on battling emotions.(I would suggest keeping a cold drink or cloth handy.) If there every was a "love heals all" novel of the century, this one is it. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Engrossing Time Travel Romance Review: After reading Beyond the Highland Mist, I decided to try this one. I found that I liked it even better. The characters move around quite a bit more in this on and the villians are really evil. This was darker, but more engrossing. I read it in one sitting.
Rating: Summary: the dark highlander Review: whew! wow! oh yeah! excellent! This story jumps up and grabs from the beginning. It keeps going and going. Then you realize it is coming to the end and you try to slow down so that you can savor the last few pages. Then the mourning begins. Hurry Ms. Moning, please hurry! I need more.
Rating: Summary: Karen Marie Moning, where have you been all my life? Review: Lately, I've been scouring the book store Romance section for a decent romance novel and I have been disappointed time and time again...until The Dark Highlander. Wow, this book was such a pleasant surprise! I really loved it. The story was engaging and the characters were very lovable. I will spare you my summary of the plotline as may others have outlined the story. I only want to put my two cents in because I have to stress how much I liked this book. Especially, the hero, Dageus. Boy oh, boy! Dageus is a romance novel hero to end them all: tall, dark, handsome, brooding, very alpha-male, and too sexy for words, but he doesn't stop there. He is also smart. Smart as in Albert Einstein smart. This may sound a bit farfetched, but once you read the book, it will make perfect sense. Moreover he is a sexual dynamo without being cheesy. I have to say that KMM writes some of the best erotic scenes that I have ever read. With all the above said, I have to also stress that the story becomes extremely emotional and heartwrenching near the end. When you read what Dageus' father says to him near the end and how Chloe, the intrepid heroine, reacts to events, you will feel your heartstrings being tugged. The familial relationship was just beautiful to read about. The words and feelings that Dageus conveys to Chloe will make you sigh with longing. KMM really knows how to squeeze a girl's heart! So, don't walk...run to the bookstore and get this one. I haven't read any books this satisfying since Linda Howard's "After the Night". I hope you will not be disappointed.
