Rating: Summary: Most excellent and very sexy..... Review: An excellent follow up to Moning's Kiss of the Highlander. Dageus is Drustan MacKeltar's brother's and has essentially sacrificed his soul by using the druid powers to travel back in time to save his brother from a fire (as he lay in a Gypsy trance waiting for his beloved Gwen). This story begins with the entrance of Chloe who delivers and ancient artifact to Dageus in his penthouse apartment in NYC. She gets nosey and begins to snoop around his place. She realizes that he is responsible for the theft of a number of celtic relics. Of course Dageus catches her as she is snooping and never lets her leave. Their attraction is instantaneous and deep. He holds her hostage and then invites her on his quest. He must go to Scotland to try and vanquish the 13 demons that are trying to possess him. She of course agrees (not knowing the true nature of his quest) not realizing that her life will be forever changed by this decision. This is a wonderful story and we get to see Drustan and Gwen (from Kiss of the Highlander) again. Dageus is a man tormented and eventually tamed by the true love of a good woman. the sex scenes are steamy and intense as only Moning can do. Well worth the money because you will be re-reading it again and again. I know I have. ***** (5 stars!) :)
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Combination of Fantasy and Romance Review: Believe it or not, I found this book through a sci-fi/fantasy search, and was wonderfully surprised how good a combo the story was. The fantasy part, complete with dark druids and fairy curses was an integral part of the story and very well done. The characters are of Daegus and Chloe are somewhat stero-typical, but each has their own little personality quirks that make them interesting and very human (Daegus' guilt and desperation to find the answer to the getting rid of the 13 Duids riding around in his head and Chloe's obsession with ancient Celtic artifacts). And this book definetely had one ingredient that is invariably missing from the sci-fi/fantasy I usually read, the sexual tension between and the eventual erotic pairing of Daegus and Chloe is incredible! The book was so good that after I read it I bought every other book my Moning I could find, and while they are all good, this one is still my favorite.
Rating: Summary: Encore! Review: I thought this book was absolutely great! I really did. It was such a good book: entertaining as well as a well-written. It was sexy and the "romance" scenes are hot. The dialogue is funny and altogether it's just an extremely good book. I read this one before I read To Kiss A Highlander and I didnt even realize it was tied together until the middle of the book when I was like: Hey this seems awful familiar. Then when I found out I got so excited because I remembered how much I loved it. To Kiss a Highlander and Dark Highlander are excellent books. Two of my favorites. Read them!! :o)
Rating: Summary: Could Have Been Better! Review: The first book I read by this author was "Kiss of the Highlander" and it was a 5 star story. This book was my second one and gets 3 stars for the sizzling sex and the first 1/2 of the story. The last half of the story was boring and it took too long to achieve each event. This story could have been told in 275 pages instead of 369 and been much faster paced, which would have been better. I'll give this author credit for knowing how to write love/sex scenes and depict appreciation for both male and female bodies. And, her male heros are to die for. Just wish this story would have been better.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good book by the author. Review: Dark Highlander is the first book that I have read from Karen Marie Moning and I found I really enjoyed the book. The hero and heroine were great together. Dagaues was the perfect hero- dark, brooding, handsome, caring, etc. And although at times the heroine was a little annoying, she was a perfect foil for the more darker hero. The growth and sexual tension between was well played out throughout the book, and at times it was HOT HOT HOT! The dilemma the hero faced with the thirteen souls of the evil Druids was an interesting one, and the small glimpses of the world of the Fay (Fairie) was interesting, especially the character Adam Black, who I hope will get his own story. The added interactions with the hero's family added a humor and a more personal feel to the story. However, there were a few problems I had with the book that prevented me from giving it a higher rating. One, is that although it is supposed to be a stand alone book, from my point of view it would have been easier to read the story of the hero's brother, Drustan, which was the prequel to Dark Highlander. It would have clarified some confusion about what really happened and why the hero, Dageaus was cursed in the first place. The second was the ending! It felt completely rushed and the whole confrontation with the thirteen Druid souls and the sect who worshipped him was anticlamatic. The author does not detail WHAT EXACTLY happened. The reader was left with the feeling of- that's it??? But overall, the story was good. There is great built up between the characters, the action was good and love story great. I will definitely read more from this author.
Rating: Summary: *GROWL* Review: This is the first of Moning's books that i've read and i must admit that i'm a bit tentative to read her other books for fear that they won't live up to this one. This novel will forever be the rubric by which all other romance (or even just general) novels shall be judged. I loaned it to one of my friends and I'm pressuring her to hurry up and finish so that I can read it again! Moning's narration is clever, witty, realistic; her characters possess much depth and roundness and are quite dynamic. In fact, she seems to give every character, even the minor ones, a bit of the spotlight as the reader learns a little bit more about them, or even exposes a new facet to his/her personality. My one complaint (and it's always a complaint that I have) is that after the "deed" (me? immature? wha?) is finally done after waiting forever, each subsequent "deed" doesn't seem to be given enough attention or detail. However, that's always been a complaint of every romance novel that I've read. I can only think of one that actually measured up to that expectation, and its name escapes me at the moment. Anyhoot, great book. I'm very grateful that I bought it and shall never have to return it to the library.
Rating: Summary: Ouch! My fingers are burning! Review: The first time Dageus "takes" Chloe, (around page 250-I have it dogeared by now!) has got to be one of the Hottest, most explicit sex scenes I have ever read! WOW!! Overall, it was a great story. This one is definitely going on my shelf as a keeper!
Rating: Summary: Bad Boy, Bad Boy..... Review: This was the first Karen Marie Moning book I read. After reading this one, I had to purchase the rest of the MacKeltar Clan series. I enjoyed them all. KMM is now on my favorite author list.
Rating: Summary: A little darker, edgier than usual for this author Review: If you like a bit of edge to your romance, you'll like this book. This was the first of Moning's books that I read, and it is definitely my favorite of hers so far. Having the hero be possessed by evil gave an interesting twist to the whole "bad boy" type, and the characters here seem more complex and therefore more interesting than in Moning's previous books. The hero here has the capability of doing real harm, not only because of black magic but because of the violence in his character and history. His dilemma is a little closer to the real internal conflicts we all go through than the stock social norms vs. libido plot lines served up by less imaginative romance authors. I have to admit that I'm also a real sucker for good time-travel romances, and this author handles them very well. On the Heyer-Hamilton scale for sensuality (from Georgette Heyer to Laurell K. Hamilton), the sex is clearly closer to Hamilton in mood but more conventional and less explicit in content. I liked the book for its "noir" qualities, and it's not really a radical departure from her previous books, if you're already a fan.
Rating: Summary: I Love This Book Review: I Love this book, and Kiss of the Highlander as well. They are my absolutely favorite books. I wish KMM would possibly make more books with their children or something. I recommend this to anyone that likes romance and danger. It's about a guy with 13 evil spirits inside of him and he is trying to get rid of them, when he meets the woman for him under odd circumstances. She must stay with him and help him get rid of the spirits if she wants to keep the man she loves. Read this book.
