Rating: Summary: Moning's Best Review: THE DARK HIGHLANDER is intense, deep, and dark. For that reason, some readers may be put off by it, expecting a romance more like the light, funnier predecessor KISS OF THE HIGHLANDER. This cannot be a light read because of the character of Dageus and what he sacrifices (himself) in order to save his brother in KOTH.Dageus is a spiritually tormented hero, which crosses over into the physical. Battling the 13 evil entities means he must try in any way to keep them at bay. Sex is his way of holding onto this life. This is also a time travel, but not in the sense that he is going to a place he's never been, such as in KOTH. Dageus is already in the future and must return to his own time in order to try and find the information he seeks to try and cure himself of these dark beings. He's a darker version of Drustan, a more compelling hero that Drustan simply because he has to be. Chloe is the perfect heroine for him in that she is skeptical at first, but is slowly drawn into his world. She doesn't back down from the challenges that face her, but rather steps boldly with Dageus into an uncertain future. What I loved most about Dageus, though, is his love for his brother. He literally sacrifices himself in order to save Drustan, then again to save Chloe. It's rare for me that a book will bring me to tears, but the scene with his father did just that. If you love intense, dangerous but courageous heroes, Dageus' book is one you will not want to miss. The Celtic lore that is the backbone of his plight might get too detailed for some to handle, but if you really pay attention, it really works for this story. I've read some of the previous reviews and am a little surprised that some found that the love scenes were not hot. I guess they were skimming pages and didn't read the scenes where the tension was built up nicely and the love scenes were well-written. THE DARK HIGHLANDER just proves to me that Moning's writing just gets better with each book she writes. It'll be hard for her to write a better hero than Dageus, though, but I'm sure she's up for the task. Moning is an exceptional writer and I thank her for giving us Dageus' story.
Rating: Summary: BUY THIS BOOK! Review: This book had me hooked from the first page. I couldn't put it down. I read it in one day. It has everything you could want in a book with great romance and a wonderful story. Do not pass it up.
Rating: Summary: Very Evocative follow up Review: This books follows Kiss of the Highlander and helps if you have read it. It is a strong, darkly, pulse-pounding book, but there are moments of caring and humour. Dageus MacKeltar, is an ancient Highlander, twin brother to Drustan(from Kiss of the Highlander. They are the keeps of the old magick of the secrets of the stone rings and are sworn not to use the stone which are portals in time. But Dageus broke this vow to save Drunstan's life. When Drunstan is killed, Dageus uses the stone rings to go back into time to save his twin's life. But at a cost. He is cursed, trapped, between two worlds and battling to save his sanity as he has within him the souls of thirteen Druids, dooming him to an eternity of sexual pursuit. Enters Chloe Zanders, a student of antiquities, who is sent to deliver and ancient relic. Dageus recognises her as his true life mate and takes her captive rather than lose her. Before she knows what is happening she is drawn into the ancient prophecy and must fight with Dageus. The characters are riveting, and are ones you will not soon forget.
Rating: Summary: HOW CAN ANY ROMANCE FAN NOT LOVE THIS BOOK? Review: I am astounded to read that some people did not love this book! I thought Mouring did a great job making Daegus menacing enough to provide tension and gentle and caring enough to love! I devoured this book, and I recommend it to everyone who likes tortured heroes who are never cruel to the heroine!
Rating: Summary: Dark Highlander Review: Weakest work I have read from Ms. Moning. The plot and characters had so much more potential than what was presented. Rather than building on the story and characters, the author selected to consistenly repeat and tumble over ideas and events that had happened several pages previous. Interestig plots that surfaced briefly seemed to dissapear as if Ms. Moning was in a great hurry to get to print. To her credit, Ms. Moning's attention to detail of an exquisite male specimen and steamy sex scenes remain a high mark in this book as with all her others. A quick read but not memorable.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful!!!! Review: I have read all of Ms. Moning's books and have not been disapointed yet. I read this one in a day. I found myself tagging along with Chloe and Drageus through New York and Scotland. All of Ms. Moning's books seem to grab you and keep you locked away in another world. It is a must read for any Highland romance fan.
Rating: Summary: The best book I've read in a long while... Review: I think this book was *great*! I enjoyed every single minute of it, and I have to say I probably was in lust with Daegus from the first few pages. There are some great, steamy sex scenes, you feel like the characters really care about each other - I can almost *see* Daegus in front of me. It was just a wonderful read. Even though I'd read Ms. Moning's other books, and had enjoyed them immensely, and waited for this one *very* impatiently, this one exceeded my expectations, by far. I have to say, run, don't walk, to the nearest store, and pick up a copy. Some of the characters from the previous book are brought back, briefly, and it was nice to see them again. However, I would like to see more of Adam, and I can't wait until she writes more about him. Please, Ms. Moning, keep up the good work - and I'll keep on buying them!
Rating: Summary: She's done it again Review: We've all KNOWN that Karen Marie Moning is a WONDERFUL writer since her first book!! But just let me say that with Dark Highlander she WILL be moved into the realm of GREATNES!!! Each book has been better than the one before but I have NO IDEA how she will EVER top Daegus!! From beginning to end this book revolves around ROMANCE!! Both Daegus & Chloe realize that they are made for each other from first sighting & it just gets better from there! The feelings run deep & you are made privy to them ALL!! Karen takes us on a roller coaster ride, running the complete gambit of emotions, happy, sad, ecstatic, weeping, to just plain LOVING EVERYTHING about this book & the people (& they are people NOT characters) she has created!!! I NEVER wanted this book to end!! I plan on getting my own copy as soon as it's released (October 1) & reading it again! DON'T MISS THIS ONE!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Excellent sequel. Couldn't wait to find out what happen to Dageus, and it didn't disappoint, very fresh. From the moment I picked up one of her books about a year ago, I have been hooked and now have read every book she's written. When I went to the store to try to pick up Dark Highlander a day or two after it was released the bookstore was already sold out and I had to drive to two other stores to find it! And I was glad that I did. Can't wait to see what Ms. Moning will write next.
Rating: Summary: dark heartbreaking lush romance Review: When even I read a novel, it is enough for me to simply care about what happens to the characters. Very rarely do I find a book that makes me physcially grieve, love and laugh with every word on every page. This novel made my heart hurt, and my tears flow, but it also re-affirmed my belief in love and life. Though it is not a light read by any means, it certianly is worth the pain, the tears and the time it takes to read it. Dageus is everything I could ever want in a man, and it is shame I do not know some Druid spells to make him real and mine. Enjoy this story and enjoy this character. I can safely say there are no others out there like them.
