Summary: Awesome!
Review: This was a wonderful book!! I had been waiting for this book to come out ever since I finished reading KISS OF THE HIGHLANDER(prequel), and bought it right away, and, boy, am I glad I did. The characters are wonderfully developed and Dageus was to die for! But let's not leave out Chloe, it was a refreshing change to have a strong heroine who still has her wits about her. I have gotten so tired of books where the ladies are so stubborn that the put all of the characters in jepordy just to have her way. Well Ms. Moning managed to make a strong, smart, independent heroine with just the right amount of stubborness. This book was very sensual but not overly so. TDH really drew out my emotions. I cried, I laughed out loud(sometimes in public places, and as some of you know that can be quite embarrasing!) I yelled, and I felt the pain of the characters. All in all this was a wonderful-stay up until 3 in the moring to finish it-read, and would definetly recommend it to all of my friends.

Summary: Degeus Is A Hero So Yummy, I Want Him For Breakfast!
Review: NOTE: Read "Kiss of the Highlander" before you read this one. The characters will be a part of you from "Kiss", making "Dark Highlander" far more captivating. Drusten is the main hero in "Kiss", but Degeus definitely wins your heart as well. "Kiss" is an excellent story in it's own right. Don't miss it.

Dageus is everything you fantasize about. He's big, strong, brave, completely unselfish, romantic, and devoted to those he loves... yet he becomes dominant, wild, and passionate in bed. Yummy! These are some of the most erotic love scenes ever.

In 16th century Scotland, Degeus and his twim brother Drusten are members of the mystical Druids. Degeus is devastated when his twin brother is killed in a fire. He risks losing his own soul in exchange for his brother's life. Now he is tormented by 13 evil souls who are fighting his own good soul for his body. His only hope is to find a way to wash the evil ones from his body. If they win, he will become an evil power so great, the world will face destruction. Each time Degeus uses the evil ones' magic, they take over another piece of his being. He must use the magic to travel through time and steal ancient tomes that hold the information about the curse he is suffering.

Modern day historian,Chloe, is of Scotish decent. She has always dreamed of visiting the land of her ancestors. She is fascinated by Celtic antiquities. When her boss sends her to a rich man's penthouse, to loan him an ancient tome, she is amazed at his collection of artifacts. While snooping around his home, Chloe comes across some ancient tomes that have been stolen from local museums. Degeus catches her snooping in his room, and has no choice but to keep her until he can finish reading the tomes and return them to museums.

From the moment Degeus catches the pretty girl snooping under his bed, his mind can think of only one word: "Mine." He is instantly possessive of Chloe and can't let her go. Even when he returns the tomes to their owners, he wants to keep her. He convinces her to return to his home land, Scotland.

Over the next weeks, the couple travel Scotland, and they travel through time. They are franticallly searching for a way to wash Degeus of the evil ones who are slowly consuming him. Chloe's love is the one thing that keeps Degeus strong. Still, the evil souls are becoming more powerful. When enemies kidnap Chloe, Degeus must use magic to save her life. He knows that it will mean giving the evil ones so much power, he will no longer be able to fight them. He has only one choice: give in to the evil magic to save Chloe, then take his own life to keep the evil ones from using his body to destroy all of mankind.

Degeus is a hero who gives all of himself to save the ones he loves. Twice, he has sacrifised himself. Once for his brother's life, then again for Chloe and mankind. When Chloe returns home with her heart aching over the loss of Degeus, she learns that he had gone to great lengths, months earlier, to insure that she would be taken care of should he die. He also left her a note to let her know of his eternal devotion. Yet all of the riches and comforts in the world can not replace him. Her heart can not give up hope that a miracle may still be possible. Time travel is no longer possible. Is there anyone who can give Degeus his life back?

Karen Moning's writting isn't totally smooth. Often, you have to reread a sentence to catch what she is saying. However, her story lines, characters, love scenes and mystic edge are excellent. There was no way I could put this book down until I finished it.

Summary: A Story That Gives New Meaning To Tall, Dark, and Sexy!!!!
Review: This was the first time I've ever read Karen Marie Moning, and needless to say half way through this book I ran back out to Amazon and put her other four books in my shopping cart! I'm not big on time travel and really only read a few authors that pen this sub-genre. I have added Karen Marie Moning to this short list!!!

This was a very fun book due to the great characterization that she did. Chloe is a perfect complement to Dageus. She's funny, sweet, and totally from the 21st century. Dageus is tall, dark, sexy...all right he's yummy period, oh and did I mention a 16th century druid? Dageus is looking for a way to reverse a curse and Chloe is basically in the right place but at the wrong time and Dageus can't help himself. Chloe is his mate, his love, and he's not going to let her go! At least not if he can help it. Chloe on the other hand is innocent, has no idea what this highlander is thinking, and loves historic artifacts (Museum business is what brings her to Dageus in the first place) imagine her surprise when her curiosity lands her tied to Dageus' bed!

This was a great book with laughs, romance, and yes...even tears! I loved it and I can hardly wait for Ms. Monings other books to be delievered to my mailbox!

Summary: Okay but not her best work
Review: I have read all of Karen Marie Moning's books and consider her to be one of the best authors of the romance genre. Her stories are incredibly amusing, with wonderful characters - men who take your breath away and women with great spirit and wit - and a fast-paced dialogue. She leaves the reader lacking for nothing and wishing that the story could go on and on and on...

I would have given her earlier books five stars but I have to admit that although the build up to this book was great and the hero and heroine satisfied all expectations, the ending was disappointing and I did not enjoy the constant references to favouritism. That Dageus is the favourite of both his parents is I think totally irrelevant to the story and anyone who read Drustan's story in Kiss of the Highlander and fell in love with him there would be a bit put off by the idea. As it was, that diminished my own enjoyment of the book and lowered the book's rating from 5 stars to 4 stars. I usually reread Ms Moning's books a few times but cannot bring myself to pick this book up again however brilliant I think it is.

So this book was a bit of a disappointment to me but only relative to her earlier efforts and I would still recommend it. To anyone who hasn't yet read any of her books however, I would suggest trying one of her earlier books as they get an unqualified 5 star rating!

Summary: Outstanding Read
Review: Karen Marie Moning outdoes herself with her latest, THE DARK HIGHLANDER. It's deeper, richer and sexier than it's predecessor (KISS OF THE HIGHLANDER).

Dageus MacKeltar has been fighting from turning "dark" since using time-travel to save his brother Drustan from dying in KOTH. Now Dageus is in a battle with 13 evil Druids for his soul. Seeking to find a way to free himself, he studies all the ancient texts and writings he can get his hands on. Chloe Zanders has a reproduction of the 3rd book he needs, but when she delivers it to his apartment, he traps her there for her and his own good.

Chloe doesn't believe he's going to return all the artifacts he's stolen, but she's convinced he's more than just a thief. There's something more to Dageus and her curiosity is about to get the better of her. The one book he needs no longer exists in the 21st century, but it does back in his own time of the 15th century. However, having decided once he laid eyes on her that she was his, Dageus isn't going anywhere without Chloe.

Stepping back in time, Chloe slowly realizes that there is evil in Dageus that is straining to be released. Instead of fleeing, she helps him, fighting against time and evil for the man she loves.

Compelling, page-searing and emotional, I found myself biting my nails, laughing and crying throughout this whole book. Moning's thought provoking story kept me so interested as to what was happening with Dageus, I was loathe to put this book down. This is the kind of book I live to read, alive with depth, emotion and unwavering love between all the characters (Dageus, Silvan, Chloe, Drustan and Gwen). THE DARK HIGHLANDER will always stand out as one of my all-time favorite reads and Dageus as one of my all-time favorite heroes. Don't wait - get this book ASAP.

Summary: great romantic fantasy
Review: Druid mage Daegus MacKeltar used his powers to travel back in time to save the life of his twin brother Drustan (see TO KISS A HIGHLANDER). However, Daegus pays a high price for his good deed as he released the spirits of thirteen evil Druids that share residency with him in his body. Desperate to re-incarcerate these malevolent beings, Daegus steals ancient Celtic texts in search of the spell that will do this. The Manhattan press dubs the thief the "Gaulish Ghost".

Medieval expert Chloe Zanders is shocked to learn that a curator of the Cloisters collection wants her to deliver a five century old reprint of the third book of Mannannan to some private collector who has provided artifact donations in exchange for reading the text. A wary Chloe delivers the book to Daegus, who recognizes his soul mate has arrived. Holding her prisoner, Daegus and Chloe travel to Scotland where he hopes to free his soul by imprisoning the Druids and to persuade her that they belong together through time and space.

This sequel is a great romantic fantasy that should provide Karen Marie Moning with a loyal cross genre audience awaiting her next book. The story line is action-packed, filled with tension, and never slows down even when the lead heroes debate their fate and attraction. The good vs. evil battle will hook fantasy readers with its feel of authenticity even with magic, incantations, and otherworldly demons. Ms. Moning seems heading to the read realm of greatness with THE DARK HIGHLANDER proving she is one of the best writers on the market today.

Summary: Good but not Great
Review: I wanted to adore this book as much as it's predecessor Kiss of the Highlander since it was Daegus' story (Drustan's twin brother), but instead, I liked it a whole lot. The story is most definitely unique and engaging and our hero is certainly scrumptouously sexy in his darkness. However, I just didn't warm up to the heroine, Chloe. I feel Ms. Moning didn't develop this character as fully as she did Gwen in KOTH. As a result, this story misses the complete "romance" aspect. I couldn't say "Yes! These characters were meant to be together above all others", but rather felt that they shared a mere fondness for one another and a whole lot of attraction. If you are looking for an intriguing and more complex plotline, this book is wonderful. If you want heart-stopping love and romance, you may feel a little short-changed. If you desire the whole romance package complete with a great storyline, read KOTH. All in all, The Dark Highlander makes for an enjoyable read and is certainly one of the better novels written in this genre.
