Summary: Intriguing!
Review: This book is intriguing--from the intrigues of the court of Henry VIII to the intrigues of lives woven together through time and space. Nell Gavin does a superlative job of bringing not only Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII to life, but also the threads of lifetimes remembered from ancient Egypt, to gypsy merchants, to a curious 20th century connection. It full of wisdom and insight--it is a delightful read!

Summary: Better And Better
Review: This is a book that gets better with each consecutive reading. Once is not enough. Each time you read it you will discover new layers you didn't see the first time, and then you can even more fully appreciate Nell Gavin's talent and articulation. Read it once and you are forever changed, read it again and admire the tapestry.

I must comment on the "Instead Of" Reader Recommendations. . .what is the purpose of choosing "instead" rather than "in addition"? In reading the description of "White Apples", I think it looks interesting enough, but is not so similar to "Threads" in nature or subject that a reader cannot enjoy them both.

My advice is: no matter what else you read, make a point to read "Threads"! It's a choice you'll be glad you made.

Summary: Thought-Provoking
Review: This is a well-written, well-researched, "other-worldly" book about history, love, betrayal and reincarnation. A lot to cover in one novel! The book begins with the execution of Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's second wife and continues to follow the cause-and-effect of their "relationship" - through Anne's eyes - over several lifetimes as they try to work out the kinks! On one level, it is a nice historical re-creation of Anne - whose portrayal by historians has always been a shadowy and contradictory one based on whose viewpoint one reads at any given time. On another, it is an interesting study of reincarnation and how it works. And finally, it is simply a good story, exploring the ideas of love, betrayal, forgiveness and personal growth as we all have to live through them, whether it be in one lifetime or several. Imaginative, compelling, highly entertaining, and thought-provoking, this is a book that stays with you long after you put it down.

Summary: LOVED IT!!!
Review: This is an exquisite book. I absolutely loved it - to the point that I actually stopped reading it so it wouldn't end (sick, yes!!). This is a beautifully crafted story and it has stayed with me ever since I finished reading it. Even though it is a work of fiction, the story appears so "real" you feel as if you are there experiencing everything that Anne Boleyn did thru her several reincarnations. Nell, please write more books!!!!

Summary: INCREDIBLY CREATIVE AND COMPELLING
Review: This novel is exceptionally well written and very thought provoking. Takes creativity to another dimension. Although the novel begins with the beheading of Queen Anne, the balance of the novel consists of the trials and tribulations of Anne and Henry beginning before the birth of Christ until the early 1970's. They meet, part, interact, hate, love, are friends, brother and sister, husband and wife etc., and that's BEFORE they encounter each other as King Henry and Anne Boleyn. This novel makes you think.

Summary: Great Fiction for the Liberally Minded History Buff
Review: Threads is a great book for the history buff. Though it is fiction, it is more like a historical fiction (it has a bibliography in the back). It is not quite a historical fiction either though as the disembodied spirit of Ann Boleyn relates in the first person the details of her life with Henry VIII as well as their relationships in several other lives, including more recently in America. Although the context of the review is that this was just one of many lives, the bulk of the story deals exclusively with her life as Ann Boleyn with occasional references to a former life in Egypt as a wife turned prostitute and a enjoyable stint in a traveling circus in another time and place.

Ms. Gavin is careful to try to maintain historical accuracy about the characters involved even though this is a fictional novel. A short notes section tells readers when she has deviated from accepted history in favor of plot. I can't help but feel that the selection of the historical figure of Ann Boleyn constrained Ms. Gavin's apparent talent. Each additional "character" is by nature a historical figure requiring ever more restraint by Gavin to maintain historical accuracy. Therefore, there are comparatively fewer characters involved throughout the story than there might have been had the main character not been a figure of historical reknown. Character development of Hal and the Chinese mother-in-law, as well as dialogue between Ann and Henry in their American life shows that Ms. Gavin has what it takes to write enjoyable fiction. I would love to see what she could do with her imagination not given such boundaries from the outset.

Summary: A Winner!
Review: THREADS is a sure winner. I was so moved by this fresh and unique take on the the Tudor era that I simply had to write to the author and offer my highest praise. What a change from the ordinary stories of this time long past! You can't go wrong - whether you're a history buff or not, you can surely appreciate this magnificent story.

Summary: An Excellent Book
Review: Threads is an irresistible journey. It takes the reader by the hand and explores several lifetimes lived by two souls who were, at one time, Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. The reader will feel the magnetic pull that draws them to one another, as well as the love, passion, pain, and betrayal that goes along with it. This multi-layered and well-researched story is told with compassion, wit, and vision. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Tedious & depressing
Review: Very disapointed with this book. It started out interesting but then it went on and on and on with the abuse that she received from Henry - an evil tyrant probably equal to Hitler and Stalin. In the end she is supposed to forgive him???? I like a book that makes me think but this one only depressed me. Better development of the good lives spent together might have saved this.
