Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: A modern perspective of the life of Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII, Threads explores the many permutations of love through the ages. This well-written, well-researched book is both entertaining and educational. A great way to spend your cold winter evenings!
Rating: Summary: A New Nell Gavin Fan Review: Add me to the long list of reviewers who were blown away not only by this story and the author's writing ability, but also by the clarity of her vision and the depth of her character development. The seamless flow of plot and sequence of events held me spellbound. I can't wait to read Nell Gavin's next book!
Rating: Summary: Anne Boleyn tells all! Review: Finally, Anne Boleyn gets a chance to speak through Nell Gavin. She tells how it really happened between her and Henry VIII, through several lifetimes. It's a dramatic, romantic, and ultimately tragic relationship of mythic proportions. It's a learning experience. The telling of the tale, the weaving of the threads seems profoundly real as Anne tells her story.
Rating: Summary: Threads: A Thought-Provoking Read Review: History! Intrigue! Romance! Life after death! What more can a reader ask for? I found Threads to be very thought-provoking and well written. Ms. Gavin has taken her time to craft a book that transports the reader back into time to "meet" Anne Boleyn and to "hear" her perspective on the events that molded her life. Thank you, Ms. Gavin for such a wonderful treat!
Rating: Summary: One Of My All Time Favorites! Review: I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down. Nell Gavin does an excellent job with weaving together the stories of two souls who travel together through time and space to learn important lessons about love, loss and loyalty. The main story is about the life of Anne Boleyn as seen by Anne in her life review after her death on the gallows. Then Anne reviews her many lives with Henry VIII and others from that life as they live again and again together in good times and bad. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: A Terrific Buy! Review: I am a HUGE fan of Tudor England and especially a fan of Anne Boleyn and King Henry. I was facinated by the premise of this story and quickly made my purchase. Please, grab this story now if you love this period, and if you love a good story! Not preditable at all, the story takes you on a very original ride through the many experiences of these people in past existences! It's great. A.L.F.
Rating: Summary: The Boleyn girl still surprises Review: I am not a fan of historical fiction so being advised that would ejoy this left me unsure what to expect. It was a wonderful surprise to find that Nell Gavin had been brave enough to abandon the constraints of formula fiction and cast aside the rules of genre. The story of Anne Boleyn is of course one of the greatest injustices committed against an individual in modern history but is usually told from the point of view of the establishment. Not only does Nell give us Anne's point of view, she takes us beyong the execution to a place outside space and time where the central character, now aware of both past and future, can view herself objectively and understand why others behaved as they did.
There are elements of gnostic kabbalism in this novel and an intriguing parallel with the life of Diana, Princess of Wales emerges although it is not referred to directly.
The writer displayes in her literary style a lightness of touch that makes for easy reading and I am sure readers will find the pages turning so fast they start to get hot.
Threads may disappoint fans of the typical historical "bodice - ripper" and those who think themselves historical purists (having read some of their reviews however I feel that in their lust for purity they forget this is FICTION) but to the type of reader who likes novels to explore ideas rather than drily reporting imagined events Threads will be a delight. All in all a fine novel that I have no reservations about awarding five stars (plus a distinction for originality.)
Rating: Summary: Misled Review: I bought this book based solely on the excellent reviews it received here. Was I misled!!! This is NOT a good book. Ms. Gavin does Anne Boleyn an injustice by portraying her as a somewhat weak, foolish, shallow girl. Anne Boleyn was none of these things. Carolly Erickson, in my opinion, has written the best biography of Anne Boleyn. Eveleyn Anthony and Nora Lofts have also written excellent fiction biographies of her. Much, much, much better than Ms. Gavin's effort. The several vignettes of the merry band of characters hanging out together through history were not well developed characters-just stories (and not interesting ones at that!)with no real common thread. I never did figure out the point of this book since the end didn't seem to have a conclusion. Don't waste your money.
Rating: Summary: There are better books Review: I found this book to be very interesting. The first part of the book is very cut and dry. Basically a narrative of the life of Anne Boleyn as told by her from heaven. The reincarnation stories can be a little bit boring and the ending just hangs there. Even if you are interested in the Tudors this is not the book to buy.
Rating: Summary: I Loved It! Review: I have read just about every book ever written about Anne Bolyen. I have also read dozens of others about Tudor England and I have to say this one entertained me more than any other I've ever read. When I first saw it I wasn't really interested because I thought I probably needed to buy another book about Anne Boleyn like I needed a root canal, but on a whim and a sale price I bought it and I'm really so glad I did. I enjoyed it immensely. A very unique take on the lives of Anne Boleyn & King Henry.
