Rating: Summary: A great book Review: I enjoyed very much of this book. When it ended I almost broke in tears.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! A great book! Review: I have read every book of David Eddings and LOVED everyone! His characters are wonderful! At the end of the book, it seems like you are right there with everybody. This book did a fine job of wrapping up the Mallorean, although the ending was in no doubt of who Cyradis was going to chose. I have read the Elenium, but I didn't like it better than the Mallorean or the Belgariad, it was too hard to follow and I kept on mixing up the knights names in my head. All aside, David Eddings is a fabulous writer!
Rating: Summary: Great Book!!!!!!!! Review: I loved it. I liked how Mr. Eddings tied up all the loose ends with Zakath and Silk and Velvet.
Rating: Summary: Can I give this -1000 stars? Review: I read and enjoyed the Belgariad - in fact; it really shook me up, emotionally. I even cried. But this tripe - this Mallorean -five books of vacuous-ness of utterly wasted words on paper that poor trees were cut down to deliver! The horror, the horror! To say it was bad is an insult to things that are truly bad. This was beyond awful. I have created more plausible storylines on cocktail napkins. I have read more entertaining and witty prose on the bathroom wall at the port authority. This series should have never happened - it was as if - the big monumental saving of the world in the first series didn't "count", like - oh, that - we weren't serious - NOW you really get to save the world. With a cast of thousands across a landscape with an ever growing map and mass of continents and cities with similar names (the better to confuse you to keep you from noticing the lack of plot, character development or anything really but beleaguered blather and expositional dialogue for 2000 freaking pages) the highest compliment I can give this series is - that the books seemed to bounce nicely off of my bedroom wall after I had hurled them at it. Big Dave has issues with women too - I find it frightening that his wife had anything at all to do with these books. She must be freaking Donna Reed or something because the fifties ideals here are so outdated I was aching to read Camille Paglia. All of the women are sniveling idiots, crying, giving birth, cooking and cleaning - and not a whole hell of a lot of anything else. An all powerful Sorceress can only be fulfilled by giving birth? Oh yeah - right! What is this - the Hill Country or something? How backwoods can you be? Stay away - read something else - anything else - the back of a box of crackers - the label on a can of cheese whiz - trust me. You will be better off.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I thought that the five book epic of the Mallorian was a delightful book. It had all my favorite chacters from David Eddings first fantasy collection. Mr. Eddings if you read this, not to put to much pressure on you or Leigh but if you wrote another set of books I can gurentee you that I will be the first one in line to get an autogragh. Once again I loved all your books and I'm going give them to my kids when they get older.
Rating: Summary: It's just Okay Review: I've read all Edding's books and I can say I've been a great fan. First of all I can say Eddings really doesn't bore me, unlike some other writers who goes on with hundred of pages with absolutely not much going on. Edding's fantasy is funny and is fast-paced. The ending to the Malloreon is just quite disappointing, actually very expected. Even though the series is very well written, if you really analyze it, you can see that the party was never in any dangerous situation. The orb of Aldur is the most almighty power thing in the universe and the company of Beldin/Durnik/Belgarath/Polagara -- all sorcerors just make them all the more invincible, so you never get to feel a sense of that they can actually lose, or being in a lot of danger. All the jolly banter and jokes are quite funny in the beginning but it latters really get repetitive, as they are more or less the same conversations over and over again. The whole series is based on the last confrontation, the choice between light and dark, while the seeress make that choice. But honestly, that wasn't much of a fair choice. The seeress was totally not neutral to begin with. Had anyone have any doubts that she would actually choose the child of the dark? Which all the more made the final confrontation non-exciting. I'd say the first four books -- getting to the final was even better. I think Eddings should start a new series and stop writing this world. All continuation is a little bad. Like Elenium was way better than Tamuli because Sparhawk was not as power without the Behlium and there was actual danger (the knights dying). Well that's all I have to say, hope the readers agree with me.
Rating: Summary: best series ever Review: i've read both the belgariad and the mallorean. and i have to say. they are the best fantasy books i've ever read. my only dissapointment is that there are no more books following this series. i hope the david eddings will be able to continue this wonderful story about belgarion and his companions.
Rating: Summary: And so ends the saga... well not quite Review: I've read these books (whichever was so far published) every year since I was 11. I must say that I have never found an author that makes me laugh, cry and cheer so loud. But I don't see each book as a stand alone. I see them as a part of the whole. If you think about it- none of the books have a separate plot. I think that is part of the magic though, because David simplifies the plot he has that much more time to concentrate on the characters and the characters are what makes the Book(s) special. By the way, if you think that reading the books to yourself is fun, find a friend, lover, etc and read them OUTLOUD. It makes it all the more enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: the fifth star died with Zandramas or maybe 10 pages later. Review: it was a bit sad to read the book knowing its the last bonbon, i bellive Eddings felt the same when he wrote the last 50 pages.
Rating: Summary: the best series evr written Review: thanks david eddings!!! your conclusion to my favorite series ever was awesome. this book was the best in the series to me. I could care less about the weddings and boats that some people dont like reading. the reason i love david eddings is because most of the fantasy books that i read are all magic and all serious. david eddings puts real life into his books. he includes serfdom and all the elements of real life. the whole book isnt about magic. sure, it has a prophecy and sorcery, but it also has friendship and every thing that makes a book good. some people think harry potter is soooooo good but compared to this book, i would give it 1 star. the only way to get this book though is to read the belgariad. that is about when garion first learns that his aunt pol is really the sorceress polgara and her father is the greater sorcerer of all time, belgarath. this book takes you into faraway lands that all have different problems. garion, polgara, belgarath, and durnik the smith journey to recapture a stone with magical powers. Along the way they pick up the companions, barak, silk, mandorrallen, lelldorin, ce'nedra, relg, taiba, and many more. at the end of the belgariad, garion has to challange torak. this book is when the two prohecies meet and they decide the fate of the world. read this book!!! it will change your life. i love ya david!!:)
