Rating: Summary: a bit of light in all the grimness Review: With all the dismal predictions and happenings in the current day, Just A Couple of Days provides an alternative and optimistic story of the apocalypse. If the end of the world (really, the beginning) is anything AT ALL like Mr. Vigorito imagines it to be, I can't wait for it to come...full of laughter, song and dance, fun and love...
Rating: Summary: cosmic christmas Review: My best friend gave me this book for Christmas. It kicked around my house for a three weeks before I started to read it, at which point I finished it in under 24 hours. That was hasty of me, for I now wish I was still enraptured in the universe it creates. It made laugh and cry, and left my mind spinning with possibilities. This is a very funny, cosmic, and profoundly optimistic novel. I wish our misguided president would read it.
Rating: Summary: Amusing Review: I didn't "laugh out loud" but I did smile a few times. Vigorito's (first?) effort isn't bad, but it didn't "change my life" nor was it one of those books that "you just can't put down." I put it down, several times, but to the books credit, I picked it back up and finished it. A few too many self conscious word plays and a few too many easy targets (like the caricaturized preacher) distracted me from the narrative and story, which is a fairly original idea (a virus that makes you dance). One of the problems is that I felt I was being nudged by the author in an "isn't this clever" kind of way. This is a book that mostly will appeal to aging hippies everywhere, but that shouldn't stop you from trying it. I'll probably sell my copy on amazon, it's not a keeper, but I'm glad I read it.
Rating: Summary: Thanks to amazon for recomending this book Review: This enlightening book repeatedly appeared in my amazon recommendations list - so why wouldn't I read it? I did, and am pleased to announce that I enjoyed it immensely! I will do my best to sum up what this book is about: The shortcomings in our ability to truly communicate with each other, how this shaped our society, and what happens when the barriers are broken down and true communication is possible. Fascinating idea, and brilliant job communicating it to us readers. I look forward to more from Tony Vigorito.
Rating: Summary: sigh... Review: A wild, exuberant, hilarious, impressively written, consciousness-expanding, life-changing experience. i loved every minute of it, and my only disappointment is that this is only fiction. crazy, but i actually wanted to be infected with the pied piper virus. sigh... highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: This book covers a lot of ground. It starts out strong with the promise of the story of an event like no other, and doesn't let up until it delivers its mind-blowing conclusion. It is such a cool story, in fact, that I?m having trouble not trying to retell it. Since I don?t want to give anything away, and I can?t imagine any summary doing it justice in any case, I?ll just break it up into broad categories of things I liked about it: The story. Ultimately, that?s what any novel it, I suppose, so I have to start with the plot. It is engaging and thought-provoking. Like any great book it is a metaphor for something larger (which might be hard to believe if you already know what it is about), a universal human truth about growth, potential, and love. The characters. I feel I know these people. Except for the fact that a sequel would be impossible, I wish there could be one, just to hear more about them. Almost everybody in it is some archetype, so not only is it easy to relate them to people I have known, it is really easy to love them, or to love to hate them. The writing. I?m a sucker for any author who can use words in an entertaining way and still get the point across. There are very few I have found who do both simultaneously and successfully, so I am very pleased to have found this one. I look forward to anything else I can find from him. As a side note, I?ve seen his writing compared with other authors, such as Robbins and Pynchon in particular. While I would be very surprised if they hadn?t been strong influences on Vigorito?s writing style, he has definitely created his own thing, with his metaphors as convoluted, yet as neatly nested, as his plot and characters. I strongly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Hope for the boomers Review: When I got this book as a gift, I thought, "All right! Free book!" Little did I know I would be buying it three times myself as gifts for others. Doh! Any book that can leave me with a smile on my face and a tear in my eye at the same time is one I want to share. This book is so much more than a story. (I just hope my parents get it.)
Rating: Summary: THINK :: LAUGH :: LOVE Review: Reason for anyone to dislike this book: "If this godforsaken world has overcooked your spirit into hardboiled cynicism, you will hate this book. This book is about love, universal love." This book is beautifully crafted and worth the time to read. Every page makes you either think, laugh, or love... it is excellent. Rating: Summary: enter with extreme caution Review: Read this book at your own risk. Like an entheogen, it has entirely changed my perception of the world. This is good thing, but unless you're ready to shake things up in your reality (and laugh a whole lot along the way), you'd be advised to keep your blindfold on for now. Let me put it this way: If you understood what the movie, "The Matrix" was really about, then this one is for you. If you thought it was just a cool action movie, then steer clear of this rabbit hole.
Rating: Summary: one of the best reads of my life! Review: this book is absolutely phenomenal! Not only did I purchase a book for myself, but for the last year, I have given it as gifts to all of my friends (who also love it) A must read for anyone with a light heart and a torch through these ages of darkness! *****+
