Summary: Whoa there stallion. The ape is loose!!!
Review: Although I whole heartedly disagree with the authors viewpoint in this text, I did find this a pleasing way to while away rainy afternoons. Depending on your perspective and grip on the facts, you may or may not find yourself enlightened by what Mr. Quinn espouses to be the origins of man. Some would have us believe the world has gone to the dogs, in this case as told by an ape.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A "must read"!
Review: "Ishmael" is the most thought provoking book I have read recently. It has touched my life in a way that no other book has. With out being preachy or having religious overtones (unlike some popular books today), Quinn has communicated some fascinating ideas about where humankind went wrong, in a very unique and engaging context. I have recommended the book to many friends and have given it often as a gift.

Read "Ishmael" and be enlightened! Together we can make a difference.

Summary: Excellent - a must read - and then live
Review: Not only is this book thought provoking - it is life changing. However slight the change is at first with every day's news broadcasts, and declining earth species, it stares us in the face and demands us to take heed. For those who love the earth Ishmael is on-line at http://www.inpursuit.com/ishmael/ Take a peek.

Summary: Excellent book, superb execution, brilliantly argued
Review: If you loved this book, I bet you will also love "Surfing the Himalayas"!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the top 5 books I've ever read -- and I've read a lot
Review: As sappy as it sounds, it's true. Ishmael will change the way you think about the world and man's relationship to it. If it doesn't you're either Newt Gingrich or Ariana Huffington. I've bought copies and given them to friends. Even some of those I thought would be only mildly affected, loved it

Summary: Ishmael assaults the anthropocentric fallacy head-on!
Review: Ishmael describes eloquently the fundamental importance of changing the way we think about the world and the place of humanity within it. The solution proposed by Ishmael is not necessarily an easy one, but it is at least an inspring one. We must "break out" of the prison of western culture, stop fighting over the re-distribution of power and wealth within the prison itself, to re-formulate the end of man itself. Man's place is "to be the first, without being the last."

Summary: Book offers positive solution to global problem
Review: A man seeking knowledge finds himself face-to-face with a talking gorilla as his teacher. A truly impressive, thought-provoking piece of fiction. Easy to read, yet filled with tremendous insight worthy of much contemplation. The author explains the "taker" mentality so persuasive in today's society and its deadly ramifications for the future of the planet; a postive solution is offered. Should be required reading for everyone on the planet

Summary: Make up your own mind--this book is worth reading
Review: Although I wouldn't categorize this book as "life changing", I also don't agree with many reviewers that _Ishmael_ is a waste of time or poorly written.

Granted, the protagonist of this story is quite dense and the premise of the "Takers" and the "Leavers" is pretty redundant at times... and okay-- the ideas expressed aren't exactly new or original. I'll give the negative reviewers that.

But... this book makes you think. I originally read it for a Sociology project in college and have re-read it 3 or 4 times since. Its simplicity and repetition makes the concepts easy to understand. I don't agree with other reviewers that you have to be stupid to find value in the arguments in this book. They are clear, concise, and well-articulated.

I'm not a theologian or a philosophy scholar but I am interested in making our world a safer place for ALL creatures. This book reaffirmed my beliefs that we--as humans--have overstepped our bounds in regards to our use and destruction of the earth.

Read this book. Make up your own mind. You're not stupid for wanting your arguments to be spelled out concretely.

Summary: Yes. For real.
Review: If you read just one book in your life read this.

Summary: Read Moby Dick after this....
Review: I read this book in one day. It is good. See for yourself. So now everyone can stop fussin. I cleared it all up. Next stop, Melville....
