Rating: Summary: fantastic Review: Simply put, he best adventure novel I've ever read!!!!!
Rating: Summary: The Best Read Around Review: It just doesn't get any better than this. This is as close to a "can't put it down" book as I've ever read. I recommended it to several members of my family and they had they same reaction: they couldn't put it down either. Not only does it have a great plot, great action, and riveting characters, but it's written well enough to make you forget you're reading escape fiction and let you just enjoy the show. I'd give it six stars if I could!
Rating: Summary: I think the best description is "Epic" Review: In my opinion this book is far, far underrated. I don't want to disclose the plot for this book because I think that is one of the best parts of all Huggins' many talents. In many elements of his books I and I believe the rest of the readers can't tell what will happen next. I think that should be attributed to his book's deep grasp in reality not starry fantasy. In so many other books, so many times I know everyone will live through all everything, and I am disgusted because I can see straight through the plot and no matter how many twists I know they will make it. Huggins is so different: in lots of his books guys died that I didn't want to die or didn't expect to at that time. He is really good and I love his firm grasp of the reality of it all. The treachery and brutality of war and death and politics. The total misery sometimes something we need to understand not the glorification of this that has no glory. But then, I think the best part, he also lays down the beauty of what is done. The beauty of a life given for the life of another, the death of someone for his friend. True Love. I should admit I don't think he is one of the most gripping authors, but I do think he is the most thrilling author ever! Sometimes I think he is just a little slow getting into it. Oh and one more really cool thing is his in depth knowledge of tactics and battle. I think it is really great to listen to it all! I think all Huggins books are totally epic. On top of being, I think, the best horror-thrillers on the market! And I hope that they out live this age and become some of the classics of this century.
Rating: Summary: If you can not find anything better... Review: Interesting idea for a plot, very poor execution. Character development is minimal to non-existent. Plot development is linear, shallow, repetitious, uninspired and often disjointed. The author continuously falls back on one tired cliché after another to support the plot. This book was actually painful to read most of the time. If it had not been for some long flights, long layovers, and only one book in my briefcase, this would have hit the trash after a few chapters. I actually did make it to the conclusion of this work, and the only positive comment I have is that the author was consistent. The best thing about this book is the hope it offers to aspiring authors. If this can get published . . . . My advice, pass this one over and move to the next book in your list.
Rating: Summary: An incredible wild ride! Nobody lives forever... Review: This is Huggins at his best! Nathaniel Hunter is a fabulous character, is somewhat unbelievable in his strength, endurance, reactions, etc. Huggins does a fabulous job of showing that good can overcome evil, even with daunting odds and what is perceived to be no hope. Hunter never loses hope in who he is as a created being. He is always willing to sacrifice his created nature to defeat an immortal being. "Luther raged, 'I am immortal!' Hunter shook his head. 'Nobody lives forever.'" Huggins prose is broken at times and the stroy is altogether incredible. However, the ride is glorious. Three days of non-stop action with a hero that won't quit trying to kill a creature that won't die.
Rating: Summary: non stop action Review: I loved this book and hope a sequel will follow. The characters seemed real. Well almost real. The concept of a creature taken on all that firepower kept me reading and reading. If you like a story where men are men and women are women and monsters are monsters this book is for you. The only problem I had with this story was that after many of the characters incurred serious injuries they were still able to continue the fight as if they did not have the injury. In other words what ever action they wanted to take they were able to do it throughout the story. The bottom line read this book you will love it.
Rating: Summary: Completely Over the Top Review: Huggins offers up another ultra-masculine hero battling against a seemingly indomitable foe in a fast-paced, action-packed adventure romp. Sure, the book is a page turner, and the action never lets up, but the biggest problem is that it's written like a big-budget Hollywood action flick. That basically means it's heavy on action and light on content. The characters are merely depthless placeholders with contrived backgrounds, and in every scene, the action is played completely over the top. I would rate this book very low in the suspension of disbelief department. What Huggins demonstrates in this book is that his gift is hyperbole. Every description, every character, every scene is stretched entirely too far. This is the kind of testosterone-packed epic that will appeal mostly to men who want nothing more from a story than guns, explosions, fights and death. Like the action flicks it resembles so closely, this is a story you'll enjoy as a momentary diversion, but as soon as it's over, you'll forget about it and you won't want to revisit it. If you like exaggerated situations, action and characters, you'll enjoy this book. Just don't expect much in the way of substance.
Rating: Summary: great book by an old friend Review: I have known byron for many years, even through his newspaper years! I've read every book he has written and think this is his best yet; though I really liked Leviathon!! Byron and I went to school together in our youger years so I have known him for a while and enjoy his writing style, imagination and the ability to grab a person by the posterior.
Rating: Summary: Just a great read! Review: I can hardly top the other reviews posted, so allow me just to say that this is a great read. Great characters and a good story that plays out in the mountains where a military team, with a tracker named Hunter, are tracking a monster. The military team component reminds me a little of "Aliens" and Hunter is super cool. With his wolf, the pair make a memorable pair. Who hasn't thought of having the ultimate wolf companion? Well, this is it. The monster is great also, with some killer scenes played out, no pun intended. I really enjoyed it.
