Rating: Summary: Outstanding landmark of gay literature with normalcy tone. Review: To read Zimmer's work is often equated to to be taken on a great ride. The classic catch trap took me on a quick, yet brief jouney into the lives of two great people/lovers who happened to be gay. I am still surprised that this book as well as her "MISTS OF AVALON" have not as yet been made into movies. Most of my friends have gotten "The catch trap" as a present from me.
Rating: Summary: A truly absorbing read Review: Well, I have to admit-- I loved this book. I've been an MZB fan for years, but recently have read her work out of nostalgia more than anything else. I came across this book totally by chance, and was amazed that I'd never heard of it (having read everything else she's ever written). It reminded me why I have always liked MZB, despite her sometimes awkward or inconsistent writing style-- she creates such memorable characters, ones that seem to linger in the mind long after the book is finished. I have to admit that I think this is probably a book about gay men written for women, but I thought she handled the kinds of negotiations and compromise necessary during the Cold War era convincingly and with empathy. I think this would be an especially good book for teens to read-- if you can't empathize with these guys, you're not human.
Rating: Summary: Definitely a star pick for all tastes! Review: Wow, what an amazing book! I could deeply identify with the characers in this book, and many times I was reading blurry pages through tears. I'm sure almost anyone would love this book and identify with one of the wide variety of characters. The story of Mario and Tommy's journey through life, trying to find a place they can be together and happy, would touch anyone with a heart.
