Summary: Review of New Frontier Book One:
Review: Peter David is, without question, the best author of Star Trek books there is. His "New Frontier" series looks like it will be a very enjoyable, very well-done series.

That being said, book one really wasn't one of his better efforts. (Granted, his "off day" is better than most writers' best, but still...) There are a couple of places where his language is a little clumsy, the first time I've ever seen that in his work, and this book is just a "setting the table" book, that doesn't really go anywhere, just prepares us for the following stories that presumably WILL accomplish something. Worst of all, it lets off on a cliffhanger ending, something that I despise and will almost always dock a book one star for.

However, the characters look fascinating, and as usual, David manages to write a fast-moving plot with no hint of the spoof to it (unlike, say, "How Much For Just The Planet") that nonetheless has a marvellous sense of the tongue in cheek to it. That's what makes David the best: he can tell a dramatic plot while still maintaining a sense of humor.

Summary: A Fantastic Read
Review: Peter David really shows his skill in writing THE Best star trek Novel to hit the shelves since the Invasion Saga. Captain Calhoun is a different kind of Captain which is required to make the new series oh so much interesting instead of having a goody two shoes in Command. Read this..you won't regret it

Summary: A refreshing and entertaining new series
Review: Peter David skillfully weaves favorite Star Trek characters with new to create a stimulating new inaugural tale of drama and adventure. There are copious ties to the well established ST universe, and even the "new" ship, the USS Excalibur, originally had a cameo premiere in the ST: Next Generation series. The introduction and development of new characters provide opportunities for change that are far outside the normal guidelines for the established series books. A delight for Star Trek trivia buffs and new readers alike; a bold new beginning! (But be warned, you will be left hanging...

Summary: Leaves me wanting more and more and more and....
Review: Prior to this series, I had only read several Star Trek books. I tend to be more into the technical and artistic reference books. When I first saw "House of Cards", I was sceptical. So I took a chance. Needless to say, within a very short period of time, I became enthralled with the series! I have read all 6 books and "The Captain's Table - Once Burned". All I can Say is.."Hurry up Peter, what's next???"

Summary: The best trek series ever written
Review: The characters are great, the plot twists liberally and entertainment abounds. This is the rump-kicking Trek you've always wished they'd make that cuts through the fluff and techno-nonsense and delivers on all levels. Funny, too!

Summary: The New Frontiers of Trek... really new?
Review: The thing to remember about Peter David is that he thrives on recurring characters. Those characters which he has made up before (Stone, "Rock and a Hard Place;" Delcara, "Vendetta;" etc) function by sounding off of the great characterization he gives to the already known cast. That is David's strength and I feel that "New Frontier" is an experimental place for him. Not the great read that "Imzadi" or "Q-Squared" was but better than most Trek novels. Enjoyable read. I agree wit everyone else, however, in saying that Pocket Books should have released the entire thing together instead of this "to be continued" garbage

Summary: The best one ever!!! Leaves you with absolute suspense!
Review: This book is great! The thrills and suspense of what will happen to each character is absolute stunning. The beginning is good because it gets you connected and familiar with the crew. It gets you thinking about what the people were like and what they are capable of doing. This book has a side of conflict and resolution in it. And I don't care what anyone says, but Peter David, you are brilliant making up this new series. As long as I live, I will enjoy buying and reading these books.

Summary: This book is very well written indeed
Review: This book, the first in a new trek series, is excellent. I really enjoyed the part, where Peter david has written about M'k'n'zy's Past and how he led the revolt against the Danteri. Also the mention of Ambassador Spock and Captain Picard, sending off the new crew of the USS Excaliber was a good Idea. I thought that, Si Cwan and Lt Zak Kebron's characters were very well written. Even though, Kebron reminds of a certain Marvel Comics character! ON the whole a very good book, I would reccommend it to any trek fan.

Summary: Wonderful Star Trek Story!
Review: This effort introduces a whole new captain to the Star Trek universe more in line with Captain Kirk-- someone who bends the rules! Captain Calhoun is a person with a unique past and a more uncertain future. Danger and the unknown come in bushel baskets with the New Frontier books. The only drawback is having the story broken into 4 different books. I would have gladly bought 1 volume

Summary: New Frontier Book #1 Review
Review: This is a great book. Peter David really put me in the book! I would recommend this to any one who can appreciate a true Sci-Fi and Star Trek book. But it has moderate cusing and adult content.
