Summary: Gadzooks!!
Review: Dougie really does the job on this one! great plot, well written, lots of action....all the ingredients to a DL Masterpiece! this one is for sure a hall of famer in my book! Great characters, well planned and developed, suspenseful (to an almost annoying point!!) i cant wait to read the next two if they are going to be anything like this one was!! one of my fav's now. Its a good one so dont miss out on it if you are a DL fan!

Summary: A great read
Review: Douglas Niles begins the telling of the Icewall Trilogy with the story of a young elf who is cast out of his homeland, the Arktos who lose their home and many of their people and are forced to find shelter elsewhere, and the warring ogres who rule most of Icreach. This series is a great addition to the overall Dragonlance storyline. Niles' characters are well developed: the Arktos, the Highlanders, walrusmen, Ogres, an elf and a disappearing Kender. He fills out his story with vivid descriptions of the icy region, full of realistic details about glaciers, weather, and water. This series can be read without knowing much about the world of Dragonlance. I recommend it to anyone who is an avid reader of Fantasy. See also: The Golden Orb, and Winterheim.

Summary: Where are the editors?
Review: I can't believe they still write books these days with this little editing. I would have given this book four stars out of five but the obvious spelling and grammatical errors just grate on my nerves after a while. As to the book, it starts out very slow, picking up steam until the end. By the end I would say it was a very good book. Hey Mr. Niles, if you ever read this review and need a better editor, I would be more than happy to look over your books a final time before they are released for the small fee of $10 (or if you just want to buy me a beer thats good too) Let me know!

Summary: EPIC TRILOGY
Review: I thought this book had great character development but, it seemed like the main characters could escape anything. Some escape scenes and battles were beleavable but others were so insanely impossible. The decriptions were good but I wish there was more about Kerrick's fathers and ship.

Summary: IM SOOO UPSET I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL
Review: I THOUGHT THIS WAS AN EXCELLENT BOOK. IT HAD ACTION AND SUSPENSE. I LOVE THE WAY HE BLENDS THE BOOK SLOWLY TOGETHER, TO KEEP YOU WAITING FOR MORE. THEN WHEN ITS FINALLY BLENDED TOGETHER IT MAKES YOU SAY WHOA! IM JUST MAD I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL, WHICH IM SURE WILL BE A GREAT FOLLOW UP LIKE HE DOES WITH ALL THE SERIES... GOTTA GET THIS BOOK!!!!

Summary: A very bad book
Review: I used to be a big DN fan, but not after this book.
It is badly written, very childish, and a disgrace to the DL saga.

The editing is terrible, with major grammer mistakes on almost each page.

The plot is borring, childish, stupid, and completely un-realistic.

There is no real action or adventure. The worst monster in the book is a stupid ogre.

One example: The hero (an elf) is captured by an ogre army, that then neglects to tie him up, and simply leaves him with one single ogre guard (so he easily ascapes).

Another example: A group of bandit humans, that regularly commit murder and rape (in the book) then see the error of their ways and "appologise" and join the good guys.
Give me a break!

Do yourselves a favor, dont read this book.

Summary: Real Disappointing. (Age 12)
Review: I'll say this first. DL fans, if ya wanta read this book go ahead but I bet you'll get sick of it after the first 150 pages or so. I'm still half-way through this damn book, its getting nowhere! The book drags on, I'd advise you to rip out the first 150 pages. Anyway there are also alot of editor mistakes. Forgetting the periods, changing around names... Doug why'd you write this book?! Non-DL fans, never start of with this book. I gotta go. Duty calls. See ya.

Summary: The Messanger
Review: Let me start out by saying, yes there are typos, missing periods etc. Should they have did a better job checking that be fore they mass produced it...yes! Does it take way fom the book? Not realy, you become so engrossed in the story they become less of a problem as you are drawn into the story.

Kerrick is branded a Dark elf (You can read and find out my on your own) and is exiled from his homeland of Silvansesti. he is told that he only way he will be allowed to return is if he returns with the treasure that his father had searched for and failed.

A kender named Coraltop Netfisher 'lands' onboard Kerricks boat cutter. From there they end up in the Icewall. Where Kerrick ends up helping a group of barbarian women and children of the Arktos with they journey across the Icewall to find a safe haven from the Ogre's who slaughtered the Men of their tribe.

This book look leaves you wanting more, Douglas Niled one again delivers with a great story with some awesome action sequeces.

Summary: Niles at his blandest
Review: Perhaps it was his attempt to capture the mentality of the barbarians and ogres featured in this book that lead Douglas Niles to such a blockish storyline and such unconvincing characters. Douglas Niles brought me to the world of fantasy with his Moonshae Trilogy and kept me reading with Druidhome, Maztica, Kinslayer, and Kagonesti. He is one of my favorite writers in the genre. I'm not sure how this trilogy bodes for his fans.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A bit of a slow start to a great trilogy
Review: This book definitely gets off to a slow start, but it picks up at the end. And when taken as a part of the Icewall trilogy, it rates a bit higher than it would as a stand-alone novel. It is set in the Dragonlance world, but a reader would not need prior knowledge of DL history to enjoy this. Fans of Dragonlance and fantasy in general should enjoy this- Niles is a talented author.
