Summary: BEST S.C.E. STORY THAT I'VE READ...
Review: ...and I've read them all.
I'm not a big fan of reviews that begin "fundamentally alters the status quo," yet that is what Wildfire Books 1 and 2 do. This is an well written, incredibly gripping story about how people function under extreme stress and the decisions that they make. The repucussions of the books will be felt for a long time by the crew of the da Vinci.
As I read them, I was unable to put either story down. Read these books. I do not think that you will be disappointed.

Summary: Good Stuff!
Review: An enjoyable romp in the post "What You Leave Behind", continuing saga of the DS9 saga, and this book takes the universe that has been extended and enhanced by The Powers That Be at pocket Books, who own the Paramount liscence to print Trek.

I very much enjoyed the fact that things can actually happen to these fictional, and dare I say is "non-canon" characters that have been established by the authors and editors at Pocket. These guys can be smashed and bashed, and it doesn't matter - it's a liscence to expand on the lives of those red-shirts you always see - akin to the Life of a Henchman sketch in the Austin Powers Movie!

Glad to see that DS9 is continuing, and

Summary: Powerful
Review: Ebooks have come into their own with works like this. A powerful story, artfully told, where its obvious that the author isn't thinking "this is just an ebook" but is working hard to make this a book in its own right.

Here's a story that takes chances, and makes those chances work. Bravo.

Summary: Do yourself a favor and READ THIS STORY!
Review: I don't know what one of these reviewers read, but it certainly must not have been the beautiful, moving story that I did. Along with part 2, this must be one of the best pieces of Trek fiction yet. The old "You'll laugh, you'll cry" thing may be cliche, but here it fits. Characters are put into situations that test their faith in themselves and those around them, and it's a story that will stick with you for a very long time. HIGHLY recommended!

Summary: A Good Star Trek Read
Review: No spoilers here! "Wildfire" is one of the most pivotal stories in the "SCE" series. It's a step forward, it shakes up the status quo, and it puts the characters through a crisis in which they have no choice but to mature and grow in ways that the "live action" TV series Trek characters simply cannot. This is a gripping, dramatic, well-written tale that should satisfy fans of "SCE" and even the casual Star Trek reader.

Summary: A Good Star Trek Read
Review: No spoilers here! "Wildfire" is probably the most pivotal story of the "SCE" series. It shakes up the status quo, moves the series forward, and puts the characters through a major crisis that forces them to mature and grow in ways that just wouldn't be possible for the "live action" characters from the various Star Trek television series. This is a dramatic, well-written tale that should satisfy fans of "SCE" and even the casual Star Trek reader. It's also a good jumping-on point for newcomers.

Summary: Breathtaking!
Review: One of the most surprising aspects to this S.C.E. eBook is how it not only affected me as a fan of the series, but as a reader of fiction period. As a reader of the S.C.E. series, I was stunned by the evolving crisis faced by the crew of the U.S.S. da Vinci as the story of"Wildfire" unfolded. These are characters I've become familiar with through the previous stories in the series and I could feel their pain, anguish and frustration as one problem after another was thrown at them without mercy.

Page after page, I was numbed by what I was reading, the sense of disbelief almost palpable. David Mack takes this Starfleet crew in a bold new direction that tests their courage and endurance to their limits and beyond. As a reader, you're taken along for the ride and you find yourself in the middle of the chaos, struggling with them as they face their impossible challenges.

"Wildfire" is one of the most powerful stories I've ever read, and I highly recommend it to anyone, whether they're readers of TREK fiction or not.

Summary: Trek at its finest!
Review: Star Trek: S.C.E. features, arguably, the most interesting cast of characters for a Trek series, with my biased exceptions of the Original Series and DS9 (including the "relaunch" books). The stories have been consistently compelling and fun, using a variety of authors, writing styles, and concepts to keep the series from suffering the effects of stagnation.

Wildfire brings all of that to a fevered pitch, and then some.

After reading this story, a powerful and satisfying tale even for the casual reader or someone just joining the series, those who have followed the S.C.E. crew from the beginning will find themselves emotionally drained and irrevocably changed. It is not typical Star Trek "reset button" storytelling. Newcomers to the series need not worry about being unable to follow the resolution of several character arcs that have been threaded through many of the previous stories. David Mack does a first-rate job of making sure the reader has all the necessary information as he brings those events to a head, while at the same time laying the groundwork for future tales. You'll want to take a moment or two afterward to reflect on what Wildfire has done before ramping up for the next installment.

Not as just an S.C.E. book and not even as just a Trek book, Wildfire is a winner.
