Rating: Summary: Stay away from this book! Review: I have long been a fan of Dragonlance novels but this is the worst one yet. Berberick does a good job of letting you get to know Dalamar and how he thinks but spends too much time doing it. I found myself skipping entire pages of rhetoric just to keep from falling asleep.
Rating: Summary: Dalamar not all bad! Review: I have loved Dalamar (almost as much as his Shalafi) ever since he first walked onto the pages of the Legends trilogy. I've walked the dark shadows and lived in the obsidian glory of his black magick, and I've lived to tell the tale. I've used him in many of my own campaigns, and I can never cease to adore this wonderous Dark Elf. To say that his tale was badly written is by far an injustice of our over-expectant society. While they spent far too much time telling us about what was going on in elven society, it was much needed and very helpful. Since reading this wonderous novel my own campaigns have become much more colorful and very spicy. I was given insight on the wonders of the mage-hood, as well as the ways of the elves, beliefs, the caste-system. Not to mention insight on this glorious man, his thoughts, feelings, emotions; things I never would have considered before. I'm more in love with him now then ever I was when first our eyes met......
Rating: Summary: Prose is no substitute for content.. Review: I have to agree with the "Dalamar the Disappointment" review, I found this book dull and slow moving. The language is far too whimsical and I'm sure that the book is designed to be a 'tip of the cap' to the poetry of "Beowulf" because it is set out to be the same - a good story told in prose. Unfortunately this is not the case and I think that someone should take hold of the reins in this Dragonlance saga and start getting back to the basics of good storytelling. And please leave the flowery language where it belongs - in Barbara Cartland novels.
Rating: Summary: Good but... Review: I have to say, this is a great book. It really portrays Dalamar's story and struggle well. The only reason why this is not 5 stars, is because it takes a long time to really get into the story. The first half of the book is mostly pointless. If you are a Dragonlance fan, get this book, if you havent read any or many Dragonlance books, don't get it.
Rating: Summary: A Long Time Coming, I think Review: I thought this book was a long time in coming, but think that it could have been done better. It does seem at times that the author just read a few DL books to bone up on Dalamar, especially (unless this is an editing error) when the author refers to Kitiara's last name as Majere, not Uth Matar. This idea for Dalamar could have probably been made into a trilogy, giving Dalamar's very early days and ending with the following of the Chaos war. This character was crammed into one book. The book is a fair read.
Rating: Summary: Leaves Dalamar fans wanting more Review: I thought this book went way too much into description, but other than that the author did a fine job of representing Dalamar and his path towards his test in the high tower. Definately worth reading if you are a fan of Dalamar!!
Rating: Summary: Ok Review: I thought this book went way too much into description, but other than that the author did a fine job of representing Dalamar and his path towards his test in the high tower. Definately worth reading if you are a fan of Dalamar!!
Rating: Summary: Not what I would of expected Review: I would of expected more in a story about Dalamar. Most of the book is pretty much a re-account of the War of the Lance and the story is kind of boring with nothing to suprise the readers.
Rating: Summary: Painful.. Review: I'm a big fan of the series, and I was excited to read this book because I thought Dalamar was an interesting character and hoped that a good portion of the story would have to do with the time he spend in the Tower of High Sorcery with Raistlin (my favorite character). Unfortunately the book ends at the door to the tower. And getting there was truly painful. I usually go through these books in a week while riding the train. This on I had to force myself to read just so I could get on with another book.
Rating: Summary: Another Excellent Effort by Nancy! Review: Nancy did a bang-up job with this novel! Yes, there are a few editing errors, but overall the book captured both the feel of Ansalon in the years before the period portrayed in 'Chronicles,' and got all the *important* details right! I think this is a fine addition to the Dragonlance line and a fine fantasy novel in its own right.
