Rating: Summary: Diverting, for a one time listen Review: An interesting little piece, that uses the audio format well by telling a story about a planet that has a sound-based problem. The narrative is held together by using a Starfleet Investigator as a narrator. The story is told from his timeframe, as a series of flashbacks. The flashbacks consist on the log entries of Captain Sulu and his Excelsior crew, and depositions given by the alien characters to the investigation. However, the short play time and audio format work against the story. Some of the acting is weak, and the story seems short. Recommended for the Captain Sulu completists out there.
Rating: Summary: I actualy liked it Review: I am reviewing to the tape cassette version. I actually liked this story. The other 3 reviews seem to put a negative spin on things but this is a fun tape to listen too when you are walking on the beach or driving in your car. The sound effects and background audio are amusing too. I would be fun to think that aliens are listening to Burns and Allen right now!
Rating: Summary: Improvement to the audio medium for Star Trek Review: I was hoping for a bit more with this story as it had 5 actors instead of three like its predecessor, "Transformations". Like "Transformations" it suffered because again it is set up as a series of log entries and personal memories, so again there is no interaction between the actors. Regardless, the story was intriguing and the use of sound as a plot device was clever for the audio meduim. The 3-D sound again was good and the use of headphones is recommended. There are some good elements of humor and drama in this but little character development or any sort of interpersonal relationships developed. My suggestion is that future audio adventures (and I hope there will be more) attempt to be more like plays than books read in the first person, much like the radio shows of old. The Star Trek series has great potential here that could be exploited. Despite it faults it is a worthwhile listen, and I look forward to the next one, "Envoy".

Rating: Summary: Painful Review: This story is painfully bad. I had hoped that Pocket Books might bring Captain Sulu to life, but this story deserves only a funeral. I doubt I will invest in the other Captain Sulu stories after this experience.
