Rating: Summary: I wish I could give this series more than 5 stars Review: This book is the start to one of the best series that Salvatore has ever written. Memorable characters great story line and great laughs. A must read for Bob Salvatore fans and those who havn't started reading him yet.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: This is a good book
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful Review: This is an absolutely wonderful book. The characters are magnificent, and very funny. The only reason that it didn't get 5 stars is it seemed that Danika, the main chacter's girlfriend, was the hero. Now that i've read the other novels, I know that that isn't true. The ending really suprised me! As Pikel would say "Oo Oi!"
Rating: Summary: Very well done ! Review: This is an extremely great and enjoyable view into another forgotten realms. It pits a not-so-great hero against unbelievable odds in a rush to save the people he care for. Add in some very well described battles, some dwarven humor, a slightly melancholic theme, and you get the finest of Salvatore. I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading it again !
Rating: Summary: How odd...I can't stop laughing! Review: This is one of the most unique books I have ever seen! There are so few books about clerics themselves and even less with an actual monk in them, especially portrayed so wonderfully! The characters are interesting and hilarious. The plot keeps you off balance and the evil people are very, very evil. Another unexpected element - a character who fights with his curiosity and knowledge. How many characters DON'T go charging in first chance they get? It makes for a very different, very good book. It's a must read for all fantasy fans with a sense of humor. My favorite part, however, has to be this certain quote: "Oo oi!" If you don't know what I mean, you need to read it, see? I promise you won't be disappointed with any of it!
Rating: Summary: seems well written but not what i'm looking for.... Review: This novel takes place in the Forgotten Realms setting in the remote Snowflake Mountains. The story centers around the Edificant Library established by the faith of Denir (god of knowledge). The main characters are a young orphaned priest named Cadderly and his girlfriend Danica, a monk. They along with several of his friends must defend the library from a curse that intensifies the desires of all the occupants causing dire effects. The storyline has lots of promise. The idea of having a cleric and a monk as the main characters in a Forgotten Realms novel is quite intriguing. Unfortunately, this book doesn't deliver on that potential. The novel starts off extremely slow; however, in a new series with unknown characters this is somewhat expected. But it would have been hard to fail more miserably at the character introductions and early plot development. The rest of the book is a toss up. Parts of the book are funny and amusing, but there are other parts that leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. Even Salvatore's battle scenes, his strongest skill, are lacking the excitement they normally invoke. The battles with Cadderly using the yo-yo were just downright stupid. I think my biggest problem with the book was the main character! By the end of the book, I really just started to dislike him. Cadderly character is intriguing; he is thrown into a violent world that he would rather not exist, pushed into an adventurous life that he doesn't want. Unfortunately, Salvatore writing style doesn't lend itself to the possibilities. The book should make you feel for Cadderly, but it leaves me with dislike instead. My other gripe is Pickel. I hated his little catch phrase "Ou oi"; it perturbed me to no end. And the thought of a dwarf wanting to become a druid seems kind of silly to me, but Salvatore's characterization of him makes it worse. To me Pickel seems to be a mentally challenged dwarf that got slammed into a tree too hard one day and decided he should save the forest. The book is not devoid of qualities, and that is why I still give it more than one star. I liked the chaos curse and the affect it has upon the library dwellers. It makes the book very amusing to read at times. I also liked Danica's character, she is the first monk I have ever read about in a fantasy novel and I liked her development. Ivan was also amusing his one-liners were usually good for a laugh. But the bright spots of the book were the villains. Strangely, Bargen the one character that we are really supposed to hate was one of my favorite characters. I loved his resourcefulness and his powerful abilities. The powerful villain brought down by his insurmountable arrogance. Druzil was also enjoyable to read about and will definitely make the rest of the story interesting. Despite the fact that I was disappointed with the book, I bought the collector's edition so I will continue to read the rest of the series. I think the story has the potential to get better. I can only hope that the potential is fulfilled in the future.

Rating: Summary: Bene tellemara! Review: This was a well done book to start the series with. The premise of the story took me a little time to follow, but I enjoyed reading about Cadderly and the other great characters around him; Ivan and Pikel are the kind of dwarves I love. The Chaos Curse wasn't exactly something I understood, but the climax of the story and how it affects the main character was unique.
Some would consider this a mediocre book; bland, boring, or slow. But I thought it was refreshing to read and just follow an adventure, uncertain of whether the main character had the strength to get out of situations or not. Since the main character differed from most others I read about, it was very exciting to watch him progress.
The evil characters were well sculpted too. I'll be interested to see how they change over the next books, especially a certain imp.
I give it 4 stars, simply because it was a good book; not a great and spellbinding literary piece; just a good book.
