Rating: Summary: An above average effort Review: This book has little or nothing to do with the battle against the Dragon Overlords from the first Rabe trilogy. Instead this book focuses on the struggles of Dhamon Grimwulf. I found the characters in this book exciting and interesting. A good read with a surprise ending.
Rating: Summary: A good book, but needs more Review: This book starts out ok, and improves... however, there are parts of the story that kind of trip you up, and have to re-read what you just read. All in all it is a great book to get. I say this because even though there are slow parts of the novel, there are many fast parts that keep the adventure going.
Rating: Summary: Jean Rabe Review: Well, I guess compared to "Mr. Amazon.com" I am a weirdo. I mean, I found that Rabe's 5th Age trilogy was great. It wasn't the typical Margaret Weis/Tracy Hickman style that I was used to, which was very welcome. It introduced new characters and caused me to wait anxiously for the next installment of the series. When I saw Downfall on the bookshelf I put down all the other books I was going to buy and just bought it. I couldn't wait to read it; so instead of waiting until I got home, I sat in my truck in the parking lot for a good 2 hours just reading. It was nice to see that the same characters were here, well those that lived at least; and I am sure that with all the refrences to Goldmoon, and Palin, that we can expect them in book 2 of the Dhamon Saga. Good work Jean!
Rating: Summary: Jean Rabe has has done it again with Dhamon Review: Yes, we all know this Dhamon fellow to be an ex-Dark Knight, could have been hero, but was robbed of the chance by the great red Malys. Jean Rabe has seemed to capture the idea that this is one of her better characters in the three part trilogy The Dawning of a New Age, etc. I was taken by the fact that she has been able to see that people can change, sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worst as is shown through Dhamon. And how those decisions we make influence the people around us who know us. The storytelling of this book raps up the events of Dhamon as he struggles with himself and his ex-comrades who accompanied him in the earlier three part series The Dawning of a New Age. This being the start of the series, its too early to tell how Rabe will fare in her new Dhamon series. I am still waiting for the inevitable climax to form my opinion, however Dhamon shocked me in this book! I am left to wonder if the strange dragon scale that he bears has something to do with his strange behavior? I forsee that we shall know the answer to that in later books. Overall, this book was not what I expected.
