Summary: LIquidnitro2's Review
Review: This book was an wonderful adventure that took place in Evereska the last elven refuge in the world. An ancient evil has returned to Faerun, and it is up to a young elven tomb gaurd to stop it. Using a forbidin magic, the elf must travel with an mysterious wizard to help stop this evil from destroying everything he holds dear. This is another enjoyable adventure by the Forgotten Realms.

Summary: Ignore the nay-sayers
Review: This book, and the rest of the series, are easily some of the best FR work ever written. Faerun needed a big event, and the phaerimm are definately it, along with everything else. Get the series ASAP!

Summary: Why did I read the whole thing?
Review: This is one if the worst books I have ever read, no kidding. The plot is boring, the characters are NOT the Epitome of pleasant and likeable, the villains just cardboard uber nastiest, and so on. Oh, and the whole world, no universe, no creation, NO MAGIC IT SELF is threatened! (Gasp) If you are masochistic, this books for you!

Summary: An Interesting Novel
Review: This was a decent enough book, but there seems to be some recurrent threads in it that are overtreated. For example, the love triangle between Vala, Galaeron, and Takari is dealt with more than is really necessary. More useful than all of the talk would be small, illustrative incidences where we could see how much each of the women love him. The shadow self is always dragged to the surface (understandably to an extent, since that is a major plot line, but still...) and his motives are constantly questioned. These are minorly annoying, but the real problem is that the book lacks anything of real substance. Its simply another romp through the FR, dealing with liches, phaerimm, and other monsters, and even Elminster makes a tired appearance. It seems odd to me that at one point Elminster, the greatest archwizard in the realms, has less magic memorized than Galaeron, who was kicked out of the Elvish Academy of Magic. Nevertheless, Elminster is a figure whom should either be a very tangential character or the center of the story. A bit player is not a good part for him, as it takes away from his mystique.

Not bad, just too fluffy for my liking. I hope the sequels are better.

Summary: Best Trilogy written for Forgotten Realms
Review: Troy Denning is by far the best author for Forgotten Realms. He describes magic like no other. He created a whole new type of magic in this book called Shadow magic that stems from the Shadow weave. Everything that he had is this book, the Phaerimm, the elven city, and especially the magic used was all unique and fascinating.

All three books is this trilogy are going to be quick and easy reads, I promise you that. The flow of the books is incredible. each chapter picks up where the other left off and theres not a whole lot of jumping around as a lot of other authors do (Ed Greenwood). Since the flow is so great you really get the most out of what your reading and enjoy it so much more.

This book gets 5 stars for the following reasons:

extremely well written - I could imagine everything that was going on in it and I was never confused

very exciting - all manner of action all the way through the book, not a dry moment

interesting characters - all the characters had a nice set of abilities and a diverse set of backgrounds. He even has a stone giant as a main character in the trilogy

well done job with magic - magic is used a great deal in these books and he does a good job of describing it. The creation of the shadow weave really makes that whole aspect very interesting

All in all Troy Denning is a great author and an asset to Forgotten Realms. For any Forgotten Realms fans this is a mandatory read.

Oh and before I forget this is an epic level trilogy with epic level characters in the forgetton Realms setting. Most of Mystra's Chosen are featured in this trilogy including the famous Elminster, Storm and Larael Silverhand, Khelban Arunsun, and Dove Falconhand. To get better appreciation for this characters I would read a few of the books that they star in. Ed Greenwood has a good 5 or 6 books starring Elminster alone.

Also this trilogy is pretty much a sequal to the Netheril Trilogy in the Arcane Age line up in Forgotten Realms. This trilogy I think is definitely a mandatory read before you start on this series.

Summary: Awesome Book!
Review: Troy Denning is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors for the Forgotten Realms series. The idea and concept behind the Shadow Weave is continually interesting and entertaining.

Summary: What a Great Book!
Review: Troy Denning really knows how to start off a new series. I have read some of his other books but this one is the best. This book has a few boring parts but is mostly exiting. As Galaeron the elf, Vala the human, And Melegaunt the wizard travel Faerun you'll feel as though you are right there with them.
