Rating: Summary: Buy. This. Book. Review: As a disgruntled Trekkie, who these days participates little in the fandom, it's books like Dave Galanter's that make me consider returning to sci fi. I haven't even taken a single look at the Voyager TV show, but Battle Lines still makes the characters seem like old friends. In short, if you're looking for non-stop action, great dialogue, and... well, non-stop action, this is the book to buy!
Rating: Summary: Typical Voyager book which will please fans of the series Review: Battle Lines takes the usual Voyager formula (the crew finds itself in the middle of a conflict between civilizations unknown to them and through hard work and mettle comes through with flying colors. Circumstances separate the crew into two parts, one led by Janeway & Tuvok, the other by Chakotay & Paris. Smiling through their injuries & gritting their teeth, they manage to pull everything off well & help the right side win. B'Elanna, Seven, the EMH, & Neelix are given rather short shrift, & Tom is made a little too flippant. However, all of them talk & behave very characteristically. I enjoyed the book very much & look forward to the next by this author.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: Brilliant. Sheer Brilliance. This is a great edition to the Voyager collection, one which focuses more on the fighting aspect of the series. It was well written, the characters were portrayed well, and both races were protrayed brilliantly. It did start off rather abruptly though, snapping into action in the first line. This technique can give the book a definite attraction if done correctly, but this time it wasn't done that well. Also, the characters weren't all used. B'Elanna had very little to do with the overall plot, neither did Seven or the doctor. I guess not every book can have every character interacting, but it would have been nice to have more involvement. The twist between Lekket and Bolis was great, who was the real enemy? Like a previous review, I think the Chakotay substory part was dragged out somewhat, and didn't have that much relevance to the whole story. But the twist at the very end involving the shields, sheer brilliance that part was. I mean this, it was absolutely brilliant. Scientifically it made a lot of sense, and treknically it made a lot of sense too. Oh, and the use of the Z+ and Z- terms when describing navigation was good, a real credit to the authors. This book is well worth the money for any Star Trek fan, I adivse you to buy it!
Rating: Summary: One of the best Voyager books to date! Review: Cleary "Battle Lines" is one of the best Voyager books I've read so far. A good majority of the Voyager books have been, with few exceptions, boring and the same thing over and over and over. "Battle Lines" breaks that mold though. I went into this one hoping and praying that it wasn't that same old, same old and was pleasantly surprised. From the very beginning this one starts out heavy in action and doesn't stop until the last page. The author's came up with a very good plot and carried through with it very well. They nailed Janeway and the rest of the crews character's perfectly and came up with some interesting villain's for this one. If you're a fan of Star Trek and Voyager in particular, this is definitely one to get, unfortunately it seems it's already out of publication. It's definitely worth the money to purchase this one from someone through the Amazon.com marketplace. Thank you to the author's for this one, hopefully their "Maximum Warp" books are just as good or better.

Rating: Summary: Impressive! Review: Dave Galanter and Greg Brodeur score with Battle Lines! Though the plot is not something that would normally hold my interest, their detailed yet action-packed writing style makes it impossible not to enjoy the story. Captain Janeway's portrayal is incredibly accurate to her character, as is the portrayal of the other Voyager characters featured in this book. However, the real beauty of this book is most definitely in the writing-for once we don't have to endure a Voyager book that uses menial language and could have basically been written by a seven year old. Instead the book is well thought-out and researched, as seen by the navigational language also mentioned in another customer's review. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves action-packed and wonderfully written science fiction.

Rating: Summary: Well written, but I like mine a bit less frantic Review: I admire this book more than I actually enjoyed it. Judging it objectively, I have to say that the writing was very good--it's just that, well, I got too darn worn out with all the nonstop action. It seemed everyone was in constant motion from the very first page. I was burned out after a couple of chapters, and had to put the book aside for a few days before trying it again. Of course, it's just my own personal bias that I don't enjoy stories that are quite so heavy on the action--and I also don't like stories that have the characters getting split up, as they are throughout most of this book. That said, I think Voyager fans who *do* enjoy action-packed, nonstop books will really like this one a lot. I was initially disappointed in the lack of characterization, but that improved after a while. Buried in among all the running back and forth/fighting/hiding/getting wounded/etc. were some brief but well written moments. Capt. Janeway was about as hard-nosed and formidable as she's ever been on the show. Chakotay got a bigger role than usual. And there was a nice scene between Chakotay and Paris that more explicity lays out the unspoken friendship between the two very different characters. I wish there had been about 50 percent more of this kind of scene and about 50 percent less of the fighting. That said, "Battle Lines" certain stands with the better Voyager books in terms of being well crafted and executed. That's what accounts for the four-star rating, rather than my own level of enjoyment.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: I couldn't put it down. Voyager hadn't get any clue how to defeat their emeny which was so strong and kept beating Voyager up. I almost thought that they finally found the way to stop the enemy. Trumiph!! But nooo! It seemed endless defeat. I highly recommend that you read it.
Rating: Summary: One of the better 'Voyager' novels! Review: I have been a fan of both the 'Star Trek Voyager' TV Show and novels for quite some time now, and 'Battle Lines' has to be one of the best 'Voyager' novels I have ever read. The book has been very well written, You Identify with the characters straight away, and it displays no Plot Inconsistencies with the show. You can feel Janeway's frustration at herself and her ship being forced into service in someone elses conflict, and then having to stand by while ill-timed and ill-conceived decisions are made. Definately a book worth reading. Do yourself a favor and add it to your cart.
