Summary: Masterwork
Review: "Dark Victory" represents the peak of Shatner's "symbolist" phase: this was the direct result of his immersion in Valery and mid-period Yeats, especially "The Green Helmet".

Sources also point to Shatner's stay in Mongolia during the winter solstice of 1997, a period of much opium usage, as being a primal inspiration for this story.

Here note that "Star Trek" refers not to the trite TV program that made Shatner a millionaire, but rather a strange, abstract sentiment indicating the narrator's desire to become a sentient gaseous cloud.

Summary: I can't get enough!
Review: Continuing where DARK VICTORY left off, this book furthur continues the self-discovery of James T. Kirk, and the discovery of a mysterious "Project Sign." Our hero marries Teilani, but is soon back on the trail of the Mirror Universe duplicates. Returning to the Mirror Universe after 80 years, Kirk discovers the life he never had, and starts to make a deal with the Devil: Emperor Tiberius. While you don't get a good look at the Mirror Universe, it's a tale worth reading, so DO IT!

Summary: Dark Victory (Star Trek)
Review: I have to say that I did enjoy this book, but was very dissappointed at the lack of content as well as story line. I have read all of the Shatner books, but this one feels like a very incomplete section of a much larger story. I don't mind series books, but they should at least have somewhat of a complete story line of thier own. This one does not and leaves you feeling very much like you have just watched a movie trailer.

Summary: Shatner draws you along in an exciting saga!
Review: After reading Spectre and being so truly fascinated by the story, I purchased Dark Victory ASAP. I read it wanting to read the next even more! While the book doesn't flow quite as well as Spectre, the characters still have that realness and just when you think you've seen Shatner reach his peak, he throws you a 180! I strongly suggest this book, espcially if you want to continue the saga Shatner spins.

Summary: Interesting, but needs the last piece.
Review: Star Trek has always been one of my favorite topics. As when I read Shatner's latest, I am drawn into it. The book had a thrill to it. But I have noticed one thing missing, the last piece, which is why that 5th star isn't there. A few months, I saw that he had a new book in the making, now I can no longer find it. So in conclusion, I am saddened for Shatner to have that kind of loss in his life and I want to add my most sincere condolences, but I would love for him to make the magic happen one last time.

Summary: Awesome! but somethings missing...
Review: This book was awsome. William Shater knows how to tie in all kinds of situations, from desendants of Lily Sloane and Dr. M'Bega, to the annoying EMH Mark Two. Even Deep Space Nine characters showed up, like Garak and Dr. Bashir. However, little of the story actually takes place in the mirror universe! The scenes of a decimated mirror universe Earth were cool, but shater should have taken the concept into more detail! How do the Terran and Vulcan rebellions feel about the Federation's presence? or do they know? I hope Preserver, the next book, will answer these questions!

Summary: The first disappointing Shatner Trek book.
Review: I've loved the Trek books, especially Shatner's, but this one was a big disappointment. It reads like 20 chapters plucked out of the middle of a larger book. In a true trilogy, each novel stands on its own. Not so here; Mr. Shatner and his publishers are too obviously milking a "trilogy" for the profits provided by 3 books instead of the one larger book that it really is. I'm annoyed I have to wait for the next book to find out how this story is supposed to end (but I'll buy it, of course).

Summary: A good audiobook, but just average as a Kirk series book.
Review: After reading Spectre (my favorite book in the Kirk series so far) I decided to listen to the audiobook version of Dark Victory. William Shatner's reading of it was well done. It was apparent that he went to great lengths to imitate the speech of the various established Star Trek characters. As far as the book itself, it seemed that its only purpose was to give us the background information we would need for the next book, Preserver. Dark Victory had far more intrigue than action. Intrigue isn't a bad thing in itself, but it starts to get a little old after a while, especially when it never pays off with a good action sequence or a major plot twist. The end of the book left me hanging, but not in an exciting cliffhanger way like Spectre did. Instead, it left me thinking "I have to wait until Preserver comes out just to find out what happens after this?". If Preserver is to be the last book of the Kirk series, then odds are it will be a great book. As for Dark Victory, it may not be very exciting, but it's not too bad. Besides, if you want to continue reading the Kirk series with Preserver, you'll have to read (or listen to) Dark Victory anyway.

Summary: This not fair!
Review: Shatner is so good at keeping me waiting! It was very interesting in how he is intertwining the old shows with 'todays' Kirk. I think Shatner is overall a good writer. Avenger was better, but the story must continue!

Summary: This book was a disappointment.
Review: I've kept up with the Shatner Trek novels, and have liked them all, but, while DARK VICTORY is a great book in itself, it proved to be a disappointing read. Here I thought that we'd get a good look into the Mirror Universe that was so talked about in SPECTRE, but it only comes up at the beginning and end of the book. And I had also wanted to read more about Emperor Tiberius, but his appearance was equally as brief. Oh, well, maybe the next book, PRESERVER, will give me the Mirror Universe detail I hunger for.
