Summary: Could not put this book down!
Review: William Shatner, along with his
collaborators Judith and Garfield
Reeves-Stevens, have once again
written a GREAT STAR TREK novel. I
thought that the Return, the first
William Shatner novel was movie
quality, I think it would have
made one hell of a great movie!

Shatner and his collaborators do a
great job mixing a little bit of
each Star Trek series, from the
original, right up to Voyager, into
this story!

The only thing that
disappointed me, was the book just
ended, with a "to be continued", I
would have liked to have just a
small taste of the conclusion of
this story, perhaps a few pages from
the first chapter of the next book.

I look forward to Kirk vs Kirk in
the next book, and I'm sure I'm not
going to be able to put that one
down either!

In my opinion, this and the other
Star Trek books by William Shatner
are a must read for the Star Trek
fan...

Summary: The Immortal Captain Kirk
Review: I'll admit it: I'm a HUGE fan of Captain James T. Kirk. Along with Batman (Adam West) and Superman (George Reeve), Kirk filled my childhood television induced dreams and playtime with what it meant to be a hero. And a man.

And this book does the character justice. Lots of cool surprises await within, especially if you avoid some of the more elaborate reviews which spoil the plot. Read it cold if you can, althought that's some advice that might very well be far too late in its delivery.

If you're looking for intellectuality, or literary merit, this book doesn't have it. But if you'd gladly go see another Star Trek movie starring William Shatner as James Kirk, even if he's on the bridge of ship in his wheelchair, then this is as close as you're probably ever going to get.

And it's close enough for me.

Summary: Kirk and Crew + TNG and Voyager crews good ST Scifi.
Review: Kirk and Crew + TNG and Voyager, and Capt Kirk goes up against his greatest rival.... Capt. Kirk! This is the first book of the mirror mirror trilogy, and continues events from Kirks first ST trilogy. Shatner and friends prove they are the best writers of Star Trek books period! I hope they keep them coming.
You Shatner haters should just relax and enjoy. I like Picard to, but Kirk has been to the mirror universe, plus he is what, a 100 years old and still physically and mentally vital. Experience is a good thing.

Gosh for trekkies and Sci-Fi nuts this is great stuff. Now can we get Shatner and friends to write a book called ANAKIN SOLO, THE RETURN. He could come back in Tahiri's body. Ever more relavent, what about DATA, THE RETURN. If the ST Guru's haven't assigned that one yet, grab it Bill.

Sorry. I drifted. This is an interesting trilogy. I defineately liked the first 2 books. But the 3rd book PRESERVER I have only heard on Audio CD, and it was a little confusing and seemed to be a let down.

Summary: Kirk wants to build life, and not destroy it!
Review: The fourth book in Shatner's "Star Trek" series is just as good as "The Ashes of Eden," and "The Return!" A story that is a sequel to the classic episode "Mirror, Mirror" (as well as the mirror-universe episodes on "Deep Space Nine") Even after Kirk has admitted that the federation doesn't need his help anymore, and that he may spend the rest of his life with his true love Teilani(a beautiful woman who's made him a better man in my opinion), deep down am inner part of him wants to be a hero once more! Although he's denied it to Teilani, she encourages him to back out into the universe again! Eventually, this leads to another encounter with the Mirror Universe Spock & Katherynn Janeway (the captain of "Star Trek: Voyager") who needs Kirk's help to straighten things out due to his first encounter! Soon, things go from bad to worse when Teilani is kidnapped, and Kirk must reunite Ambassador Spock, Admiral McCoy, and Scotty to get her back! Look for Captain Picard, and the "Next Generation" crew along for this adventure! Keep the adventures coming Bill Shatner!

Summary: A definate page turner!!
Review: I don't get the chance to read that often, however, I have been reading the Star Trek books that Shatner has written as they came out and eagerly anticipating the next. This one, Spectre, I was not able to pick up till last week and it was well worth the wait. There was a constant pace in the book that kept you turning pages. I like way he molds the Star Trek history consistantly together and refers back to episodes and movies from all 4 of the Star Trek series. It is true what someone had commented about,(the use of the TNG crew was little in the book) but that was how it fell in place. I don't think it was intentional,(to pull in those fans), it was smartly written. Fortunatly with my delay in buying this book I have the luxuary of going out this weekend and buying the next book. Dark Victory is going to have to be really good to top Spectre. The best book written so far in the Shatner series.

Summary: Shatner, a superb writer; perhaps he missed his calling!
Review: In this sequel to the storylines of his previous "Trek" novels (The Return & The Avenger), William Shatner shows us his best stuff in "Spectre." The storyline expertly combines "canonical" information from the Original Series, TNG, DS9, and Voyager in a somewhat (at times) melodromatic way, but overall this is superb stuff. I could tell either he (or his editors! ) worked hard to maintain a sense of "continuity" with the series up to this point. Another plus for the book is the bringing together so many characters to help us realize that no one character/series should be compared to another. They ALL compliment each other. I can't help but love it when we have members of all the crews we love working together. Shatner's development of the story is great, always allowing the reader to ask the questions about what's going on just before the suspenseful moments he creates take full hold. I also have to admit I was really suprised by the ending, although it seemed a tad far-fetched. But I suppose I'll have to wait for Shatner's next to think about that! Whether you think Shatner is a good actor or not, whether you like the character of Kirk or not, you have to admit that William Shatner knows how to write!

Summary: "A Barn Burner"
Review: William Shatner, et al has done it agian. This book continues to build on the previous Shatner ST-TOS novels. The last page comes out of left field completely unexpected, leaving the reading wanting more. I can't wait to see how the last page is explained in the next novel. Shatner, et al breathe an incredible amount of life into the characters, fleshing out locations and plot lines so that the story reads very smoothly. My only complaint was that it read so quickly, now I have to wait for the next installment:Star Trek-Dark Victory. This is one all Star Trek fans should enjoy.

Summary: Star Trek Spectre
Review: This story takes place in the 24th century in outer space between the Terran System, the Cardassian border, and an alternate universe....

Captain James T. Kirk: the first Captain of the Enterprise, a legend in Starfleet records, and the hero of many planets and civilizations has retired from his Starfleet career. Kirk thinks his old adventuring days of meeting new alien species, saving planets, and solving mysteries aboard his starship are over. At least, he thinks they are. But when he returns to Earth for the first time since his last three apparent deaths on the
Enterprise-B, Viriidian III, and the Borg home world, he will find out about a mystery that could be his biggest challenge yet!

Captain Jean-Luc Picard is used to '...seeking out new life and new civilizations...' but he and his ship, the U.S.S. Enterprise-E are sent to the Badlands, an unstable sector of space to secure it from any Cardassian military activity. The Cardassians are ruthless, militant, reptilian humanoids and an arch nemesis of the Federation. But seeking out new life and new civilizations is nothing compared to what Picard is about to discover.... The U.S.S. Voyager, after being stranded at the other side of the galaxy for five years, has finally returned home! The Voyager was rumored to have disappeared in the badlands half a decade ago. Lt. Tom Paris, the last surviving senior Starfleet officer, reports that Kathryn Janeway, the Captain of the Voyager, was killed in their journey back. But if that is true, who is that mysterious woman that has kidnapped Kirk after her ship returned back on Kirk's retirement home on the planet Chal?

I liked the way the characters changed. Like how Picard learned not to always take the risky, dangerous adventures, and how Kirk learned to respect all of his enemies. To find out how they changed, you have to read the book. I would rate this book five stars for the action, mystery, weapon fights, the end of the book and the beginning of the saga. I like the way William Shatner put his character in the not always winning zone. This book taught me that every thing you say, every thing you do, might change the future significantly, for it might even change a universe, and to respect your enemies as well as your friends. I really liked this book and would recommend it to any Star Trek fan aged 8 and up and would also recommend it to any of the The Next Generation cast of the TV series, and to any body who likes sci-fi, fiction, and/or scary movies.

If you liked this book, read the next two books in the series:

Dark Victory
Preserver

If you want to read about Kirk's, third apparent death, read:

The Ashes of Eden (about Klingon Federation conspiracy)
The Return (about Attacking the Borg Home world)
Avenger (about The Virogin crisis)

Watch: Star Trek Generations for Kirk's first and second apparent deaths.

Summary: Shatner did it again!!
Review: After reading book one in Shatner's Mirror universe trilogy, I can honestly say that this book is not bad at all. The books strongest point is the story. I feel that Shatner has fleshed out the mirror universe in some key areas, like its history, its divergence from the normal universe, and the circumstances that led to the downfall of the Terran empire. I felt myself being drawn deeper and deeper into the story as each chapter passed by wondering what I would learn next. The story is the reason I gave this book 4 stars because this book suffers in the same area as does his others books; characters. It still amazes me how William Shatner expects us to believe that his old crew is so much more superior to the TNG crew, and that Kirk is superior to everyone combined. Kirks Tactics are flwless, his logic better than Spocks, his timing so precise, and so much more. Things seem to go on schedule for Kirk while Picard loses his ship in very simple fashion. Shatners constant reminders of Kirks love for Teilani became a nuisance and after a short while I just didn't buy into the new kirk and his new frame of mind. And no, Kirk is not irresistable to women and a perenial babe magnet, let is go Shatner. In any case the story was very good and, this time, it carries the day for Shatner. Read this book if you are a die hard Kirk fan or if you want a good Trek story.

Summary: *Captain Kirk and the Kitchen Sink*
Review: "Spectre" is an excellent read. Book one of William Shatner's Mirror Universe Trilogy has nearly everything for the Star Trek fan. An exciting story line; practically everyone's favorite characters; non-stop action; events predictable and totally unpredictable. This book has everything. And of course, since it's written by Shatner, the protagonist is Captain Kirk.

This novel takes the reader back to one of the ten greatest episodes in the entire Star Trek television history, "Mirror, Mirror". The author weaves a story of what occurred after Kirk's appearance there influences the Mirror Universe Spock. Fast forward that event through more than 100 years of history, and bring the Mirror Universe characters into our universe for action and revenge, and you'll get the gist of the story.

Sounds like your basic Star Trek episode, but it really comes across as more than that. This novel is the best Star Trek novel I have read and I have read quite a few. Just when you think you've seen the last character that can be squeezed in that allows the book to retain continuity, and BANG, here is another surprise that fits right in. Or is it a Mirror Universe duplicate of that character? Read the book and find out for yourself.

I rate this book at a very enjoyable 4.70 out of 5.00 stars, rounded up to 5.00. If this is your kind of book, you won't want to put it down. I'd tell you more but that would ruin the surprises. Perfect for several hours of get your mind off life and serious stuff reading. It is also a good jumping on point to check out Shatner's Kirk based stories. No one understands Kirk better than Shatner. The author proves what a terrific fan he is of the Star Trek history too.
