Rating: Summary: AWSOME! Review: Well, this is definatly one of the best books I've ever read. Being a trekkie, this has a very thick plot (just how i like it) and have read it 3 times! MUST READ!
Rating: Summary: In one word: WOW Review: Q-Squared is one of those books that makes you happy to be a fan. You can't explain easily the plot(s) to a lay person, but if you love following the Star Trek Tapestry, this novel is the ULTIMATE PAYBACK for countless hours of following the series. I bought this book on vacation while at the Mall of America when it was first published in 1994, and every time I read it, I see something new [For example: the last line of the first chapter: "There's only one Beverly"...guess again!] I've had this book for about five years and just recently picked THAT ONE out. With the care to continuity that David shows in this book (along with all of his others), it makes me sad that he doesn't work for one of the series, like Star Trek: Voyager--the disregard to continuity on that show is disappointing--I could see him supervising the writing duties or something. I guess he bypassed Voyager all together, because he has co-created his own New Frontier series, which probably wouldn't work as a TV series with all of the sex and so on. Personally, I would love to see the public's reaction to the Hermat's love/sex/codependency triangle with Selar and McHenry portrayed on the small screen. Some of it seems a little too "NYPD Blue"-ish or "90210"-ish for Star Trek, but I just don't know. It is clear to me that most of David's work may just be too complicated for television or the movies. However, when I bought this book (Summer 1994) it was during Trek's Height: the brief lull between "All Good Things..." and "Generations," and part of me wanted to (and still wants to) see "Q-Squared" told with Patrick Stewart and company. Still, this doesn't detract from the fact that "Q-Squared," in my humble opinion, remains the most epic, tragic, wonderfully confusing (at first), and unputdownable Trek book to date.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: The best Star Trek novel I've ever read
Rating: Summary: Fascinating Review: I think it's really interesting to see the way in which the numerous universes interact at the end of the book when they're all on one ship. Q is great and the Winnie the Pooh scene with Trelane is fascinating. Read it slowly or else you'll end up losing track of what is happening.
Rating: Summary: This was a wonderful masterpeice of Peter David Review: As much as I love all of Peter David's wonderful work, I'll have to admit this is my all time favorite. From it's wonderful, strange twists in the different time period's and universe's, to the wonderful developent of the characters in each place. This would have made a wonderful movie. It is a fantastic book, that is hard to put down.
Rating: Summary: The best TNG novel Peter David has ever written! Review: Peter David really has a keen mind. When this novel first came out a few years ago, I thought it would be something like Q-In-Law. I was not expecting anything like this. I even have the audio version of this book and have listened to it over and over again. Being that they have not made any "Q" motion pictures, this would have been a great one.It was rather amazing how Q managed to be the one that saved the Enterprise from Trelane's wrath. I thought for sure that the crew was finished with the mean, horrible things Trelane does to them. He was rather awful on TOS episode "The Squire of Gothos", but cruel and nasty in this book. Kudos to Peter David!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST STAR TREK TNG BOOK IN THE SERIES Review: Man do I ever LOVE this book. I've read over 40 Star Trek TNG books and this one is my personal favorite. Wow, I'm amazed that Peter David could think up such a complex and griping story line that encompasses all my favorite crew. You will not stop reading it after you pick it up. Guaranteed!! Be Sure to get Imzadi by Peter David as well.
Rating: Summary: Winnie the Pooh in a Star Trek novel???? Review: Yeah, that's right. When I read the Winnie the Pool scene I was sitting in homeroom and burst out laughing, resulting in everyone in the class thinking I was losing my sanity. But Peter David seemingly can write no wrong as he once again churns out an amazing story complete with humor, action, and Drama. True, it does get a little soap-opera like a few times but that is to be expected with a series like Star Trek. I've said it before and I'll say it again, fans of Star Trek already have all of Peter David's works. But for you people that have not purchased any of his works yet this is a great start also. After you read this one, go get Imzadi and Q-in-Law.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Outstanding! The best! Pick up this book! Review: While at a recent Star Trek Convention, John DeLancie, who plays Q on Star Trek, was asked if he ever read the books written by Peter David books about Q. He replied that he had. DeLancie, who normally plays down the impact of the character in his life, said he enjoyed the books immensely. "Q-Squared" is a perfect example why. A tad confusing at first, the book is brilliantly written and has the usual David magic. A must-have for any Star Trek fan.
Rating: Summary: Good plot, but soap opera a la Peter David creeps in... Review: A great plot,a great storyline, but too much sex.Peter David seems to be having a constant problem with this. When I read star trek books,I am not interested in sex,I am interested in star trek.Sure,a passing comment or two,but this book is littered with it!Also, there's too much of a soap opera feel about it.The entire thing with the alternate Jack Crusher,Beverly, and Picard is all fine and sweet, but NOT in a star trek novel!!!(actually,it made me so bored that I skipped those parts,I mean get a life David! This is not a romance novel!)Because of this,I devide the book in half:four stars for plot, storyline, and so on,but zero stars for sex, soap opera-ishness,and some gore.(If it wheren't for these,I would give the book five stars)Other than that, this is a GREAT book.Trelane is fantastic villian, one of those "childlike guys with delusions of ganduor who get amazing powers that make them go mad" people, and I love how he seems to revel in his maddness. Also, for once,Q is in a serious role! This seems impossible, but David pulls it off just fine.But...as another reveiwer said:"I was hoping for something more G-rated."So kudos and boos to you,David.
