Rating: Summary: A good story, with some unfortunate choices Review: Any fan of BABYLON 5 and the "In the Beginning" telefilm will likely enjoy this book. Fans of Peter David will certainly love it. Other readers may be annoyed by David's rhetorical excesses. David writes the entire novel in Londo Mollari's first-person perspective, which comes out far more clumsy in print than on film (considering he is _in_ few of the scenes). Some "extra" unfilmed scenes, such as one between Sheridan and Sinclair, do not ring true to the characters. Unlike the telefilm, the novel does not stand as well on its own to non-viewers of BABYLON 5. Fans, however, will find much to like.
Rating: Summary: OUTSTANDING, a must read,an x-trecker Review: At 49, I must admit this book and the others with the series have given me so much entertainment that now after 30 years of Startrek, I am now a BABYLON 5 RANGER and proud of it. We live for the one,and die for the one.Thank you,JMS,& Peter David for the joy and good will you have given me. I have gotten so many more others interested in B5 and great feedbacks inreturn. Einstein, said imagination is far greater than in- tellegence. You both have showed that. We, thank you for doing that. A reader and fan, VALIN.
Rating: Summary: Loved the movie, really loved the book Review: By far the best of the Babylon 5 movies, the book form may also be the best of its kind. The Earth-Minbari war is one of the key elements of the Babylon 5 universe, but its origins and (more importantly) implications were not fully covered in the series. The story is full, fast-paced, and totally consistent with the B5 universe. The book adds depth and character to the already rich scenes from the screenplay. Read it. Today.
Rating: Summary: This book is better than the movie. Review: I am a loyal fan of Babylon 5. I enjoyed the movie Babylon 5: In the Beginning a lot, which tempted me to buy the book. I was glad that I did. The book was written very well expressing the story with more depth. It also contained situations that were not shown in the movie. The movie would be much better if it had used this book for the script. To all Babylon 5 fans or book readers of interest, this is an excellent book that I recommend.
Rating: Summary: Awesome!!! Review: I couldn't put the book down. I read half of it in one night. Some nice things that are not in the movie. A must for any B5 fan.
Rating: Summary: Read it! Review: I have read many of Peter David's Star Trek novels before. Some of them were Ok and others were very good. However, this one is excellent. The writing was wonderful. I couldn't stop reading it! I never saw the movie but if it's anything like the book I will definitely watch it.
Rating: Summary: Peter David strikes again Review: I read this book just a few hours before seeing the movie, and I hate to say it but the book was better. I guess that's the highest compliment I can give to a movie tie-in: when you out-do the source material you have to be doing something right. There is some really tragic material that B5 fans will only find in here that resonates with the show perfectly. A+ to Peter David, and to JMS for choosing him!
Rating: Summary: The Best B5 book there is. Review: I read this book twice and I would say its better than the movie. Tells the story of the Earth-Minbari war, how it started and how it ended. It is a MUST read.
Rating: Summary: Review of 'In The Begining' Review: I was a big fan of the movie, and the book is word-for-word, almost exactly like the movie. It also gives insite for those who are just learning about the world of Babylon 5. Defenately a book for a big fan or someone who is going to become a big fan of the series
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Terrible Review: I'm amazed at the other reviews for this book. I found it to be one of the worst books I have ever read. It's written in the first person perspective of Londo Mollari and this is the book's main failing. It quickly gets very tedious, constantly reading about Londo's thoughts -- personally I prefer some action. I can only assume that some of the other reviews were by die-hard fans that will accept any[thing] as long as it's B5. But there are far, far better B5 books available than this. ...I can't imagine any adult actually enjoying it. Take my advice and avoid this book unless you are a younger reader.
