However, I felt a lot like I was reading a TNG screenplay because there was so much talking. I was a little surprised at how quickly it turned. The first couple of chapters took up right where Dark Victory left off, but then it turned in to a whole different book with a different story and drastic character changes. The Return is still the best.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Good Book, But Somewhat Disappointing Review: I eagerly awaited the conclusion to what started in Spectre and Dark Victory, but now wonder if this is chapter three of four (or five). While Preserver is a fine addition to William Shatner's second life of James T. Kirk, it falls short after the build up of the first two books. Following a wonderful opening with some intense action, the story becomes very convoluted as it progresses. This isn't necessary a bad thing, but the ending doesn't bring everything to a satisfying conclusion. There were some superb parts that were top notch Trek, but the ending left me wanting. Of course we are promised James T. Kirk will return at the end, but with no indication how, when, or why. Also, it was evident Shatner's recent tragedy, with the death of his wife, played a role here and that could have been left out in my opinion. Maybe I'm being too critical and the next book will address what was missing here, but this could have been better. Shatner and company should have stayed with the Mirror Universe as a threat to the Federation as opposed to going too far in the direction of this book. Despite the criticisms, it was nice to have some of the Original characters interacting with the Next Generation. Also, the banter between Kirk and Tiberius was very well written and quite amusing at times. I could actually visualize Shatner in both roles and that made this a joy to read despite my problems with the story. Live long and prosper James T. Kirk.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Superb Reading! Review: I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one. Although, the writer did seem to portray some of his previous events into the book. But, I won't give any of it away! Good Read!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Keep giving us more.... Review: Shatner continues his second Kirk trilogy by clearing up all the questions readers were left with from the previous two books. I was expecting a heady, climatic conclusion, rather than the tragic ending we were left with, but this book is still definitely worth reading, and leaves the reader knowing that there will be more! Shatner once again gives us a thrilling continuation to the chronicles of James T. Kirk, and his never-ending voyages to save both the Federation and the universe(s)no matter the personal cost. Of all the Star Trek books I've read, this is among the absolute best!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Shatner has proven himself an accomplished writer! Review: After another series, Shatner has proven that he can breathe life into a story like none other. I cannot remember the last time that I found myself speeding up my reading pace just so I could find out what would happen in the chapter! He has captured the excitement of the Star Trek universe like none other. With a story that keeps you thinking and guessing, Preserver is an outstanding conclusion to a great trilogy!
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Well written but a disappointment Review: I have just finished reading Preserver. Though well written Kirk seems out of character though the character does follow the other Shatner novels. We get lots of action in this quick flowing book but we never really see the Preservers to any satisfying extent. We see lots of intregue within Starfleet but none of it is explained by books end. I found this book to be average and a rather disappointing read.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Too Ambitious Review: This last book in Shatner's Mirror Universe series could have been so much better if they had dealt just with the mirror universe. Unfortunately Shatner and company have tried to tie almost everything that has happened in the ST universe into one cosmic conspiracy. Captain Kirk should be everyman, not a cosmic puppet or instrument of destiny. Ashes From Eden was a great book, they have gone down hill from there. This book I have to say will only appeal to ST fans, and the prior two books need to be read before this one. I hope the next book about Kirk returns him to who and what he is best, a Starfleet officer, a starship captain. That was his first, best destiny.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Liked it alot, but hated the ending Review: Just finished the book in 4 days. Finally tied up all the loose ends as expected. Some of science talk was boring, but otherwise it was a pretty decent finish. Hated 1 part of the end of book, but it is a typical Cpt. Kirk ending. You must read from the 1st book or you will be lost.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Beam Me Up! Review: Preserver is a great conclusion to Shatner's cliffhanger series. Dealing with the mirror universe, Kirk must work with his evil counterpart, Tiberius, to get what he wants, and to try to stop possible universal armageddon. This book answers all the questions from its predecessors. I read all that came before it, and I thought those sort of got worse as they went on. But this book does a really good job clearing things up, and I think it's the best in this latest trilogy. It is full of suspense too. I suggest this book to any Star Trek fan. I also suggest that you read the trilogy that came before it, and the other two of this trilogy to get a better idea of the story.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Art Imitates Life Review: As we have come to expect from William Shatner's Star Trek novels, this one is a crackling good read -- up to the climactic chapter near the end. This was obviously not the way the original plot had been laid out and struck a very discordant and depressing note because it had apparently been inserted to reflect the author's feelings about a real-life tragedy he experienced. These feelings, while unquestionably understandable in their context, appear out of place and sap the entire experience of reading this novel. Let us hope that resurrection isn't just for Kirk and Spock!
