Summary: Be careful which reviews you read!
Review: Many of the reviews below give away some BIG storyline surprises. Do yourself a favor and read carefully.

This book is Shatner's strongest yet, and thankfully leaves the door open for more James T. Kirk in the future. Quick summary, this ties the previous 2 books together very well, and I cannot think of any unanswered questions from the first 2 books. I read the entire book in 1 sitting, which is rare (and difficult these days) to do. 1 major fault is the simple fact that if you haven't read the first 2 books, you'll have a little trouble following the 3rd installment, and much of the suspense from the first 2 will be out the window if they are read out of order.

The combination of Shatner (who knows Kirk better than the guy who portrayed him) and the Reeves-Stevens (intricate knowledge of the ST Universe) makes for a great Trek novel. Hopefully there will be more to come...

Summary: A Star Trek Saga Conclusion only Shatner could write!
Review: Preserver is the third book(and conclusion) in William Shatner's latest Star Trek series. What I find most amazing is that William Shatner was able to blend all the different elements he had been building up since the beginning of the series into a cohesive story and ending. He manages to merge Jim Kirk's Star Trek with Picard's, and adds the mirror universe and Preservers into the mix as well. The story is action packed, and true to how the characters would be expected to react. But just a warning; this series should be read through in order, in a reasonable time frame. Otherwise, you will forget what an seemingly unimportant event and be confused by the next events. You truly have to pay attention. Other than that, this is and excellent novel.

Summary: One of William Shatner's best works!
Review: This is truly one of the most superb books I have ever read. this book truly shows the action of James T. Kirk as he was during his young period. Also this book has great detalis of Kirk and his crew. It is what you would expect Spock or McCoy to have said such a thing throught this book. If you like any of Shatner's books then this is a must read. Tip: Also read his books "The Return" and "Dark victory"!

Summary: Mr. S. and the Reeves-Stevens ARE Star Trek!
Review: Hey, I'm in this book, so it's outstanding.

Summary: Great conclusion to the Mirror Universe saga!
Review: Well, all of the answers are there to the questions I had asked earlier in the previous two books. This was a great read, and much better than the last two. I won't spoil the ending for those who have not read it yet, but it's a little sad at the end, plus it leaves the door open for more books! So, how will Kirk finally meet his fate? Hopefully we'll find out soon. And one other thing. Will there be some story out of all of this saying what happens to McCoy? Being that it is now impossible for him to do any guest appearances on any incarnation of "Star Trek", shouldn't some story be written on him? (May he rest in peace).

Remember, read the first five book before reading this one. Great stuff.

Summary: A return from ASHES
Review: Shatner's books (ghost-written with the Reeves-Stevens) do stand apart from the other Trek books ... but since THE ASHES OF EDEN, the books have paled by comparison to one another.

PRESERVER re-establishes Captain Kirk to his proper place in the Trek mythos ... and it re-establishes the team of Shatner, Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens to their place of authority in the Trek publishing circle.

PRESERVER is, at times, befuddling and frustrating ... much like the lessons of life, the one central theme in all of the book. It's a tale told at a brisk pace and a narration rising to an incredible climax ... making the reader question, much like Captain James T. Kirk does better than any other fictional character his age, "what precisely are we here for?"

An excellent read.

Summary: Fine ending
Review: The book goes quite well for about 90% of the story, but the ending lost me a little bit. I guess I got confused about what the Preservers goal was and I never quite imagined that Kirk and Tiberius would work together and that Tiberius would change that much. But overall a fine book, I'll probably end up reading it again and again.

Summary: I enjoyed the book but...
Review: I enjoyed the book and you can read the other readers' reviews of it to see what they thought but I'm more interested in the CD version of the book. In the past, I'd always had a problem with the taped version of a book because the tape was almost always an abridgement and because of this it always left out parts of the typed version that, when I'd read the actual book, probably should've been included in the taped version. So, imagine my glee when I read that Simon & Schuster was releasing a CD version. I thought "Heck, with a CD release they could release the entire book! YES!". I checked with Amazon's site and sure enough, while the taped version's site labeled it as an abridgement, the CD's site did not....SWEET! Upon opening up the package on its arrival (I know that you can probably guess what happens next) the package stated in small print on the back that it was indeed an abridgement! AARRGGHH!

Anyway, I must say that while the story was great and the sound quality of the CD technology outstanding, unless you just have to have it on CD, pay the few dollars less and enjoy the taped version...it's the same thing.

Summary: It brings Shatner to life.
Review: This audio adventure, filled with wonderful voices and sounds really brings Preserver to life, and makes Shatner's work much more memorable in my mind.

Summary: Great conclusion
Review: Shatner followed up the shortest Trek novel he has written with the longest. The first two books had a lot of questions, and PRESERVER delivers the answers to all of them in a very satisfying conclusion. Paramount should take note of Kirk's continuing popularity and bring the character back on film. The fans want it, and so does Shatner. And PRESERVER's ending was on such a high note that no true Kirk fan could feel unsatisfied. I can't wait for Shatner's next book, and I hope he continues bringing life to the Kirk character for years to come. And as for the TNG crew, it's ashame the writers on TV don't show the original series as much respect as Shatner shows TNG. I found myself clapping out loud for some of the moves Picard pulled in PRESERVER. The friendship between Kirk and Picard has developed over the Shatner books, to a great level of respect and comraderie. As is the case with the original series, TNG fans should love this book as well.
