Rating: Summary: too long and mostly boring Review: I would have enjoyed the book alot more if it were shorter. If I enjoyed reading about a bunch of nobles sitting around gossiping (again and again) I would be a soap opera fan.The book skips around from past to present which detracts from the continuity of the book. However, I must admit the most of the chapters that took place in the past were interesting. It was the chapters that took place in the present that were dull (i.e. they lacked action), and therefore spoiled the book. I normally don't take the time to write rewiews but I noticed most of the others that wrote reviews have praised Greenwood for such a wonderful book. Even those that had critisms still gave it a 5 star rating! If the same book were written by anyone else these people would have been more critical. This is my first Greenwood book - hopefully the Elminster series will be more enjoyable to read. A much more entertaining story could have been told in fewer pages. I notice the next book, "Beyond the High Road", is written by a different author. I'm hoping it will be a better read...
Rating: Summary: VERY HARD to follow. Review: Maybe its me but I found the first half of the book very hard to follow.
Rating: Summary: well done Review: Reading Cormyr was a refreshing experience. You can tell theauthors had fun writing it and the story doesn't stagnate in themiddle like many do. This book states that Cormyr was founded by Impiltur c. 1DR, but the Dungeons and Dragons supplement, the Grand Tour of the Realms, says Impiltur itself wasn't founded until about 1100DR...?
Rating: Summary: Informative But Dull Review: The story is tired and predictable. Read this book only if you really want to know the history of Cormyr.
Rating: Summary: This is a very good book!! Review: This book is a very good book as I've written above. It starts out with the old dragon killing buffalo. Ed Greenwood and Jeff Grubb should team up to write a book again sometime. They sure do add a lot of detail when they write. The book sure does get confusing the way it skips around from year to year. But it's still a very very good book. I'mm going to buy the sequel sometime in the future. This book is not as good as some of Ed's "Elminster" books. Those books wipe this book out but agin this was a really good book. Like all other books Ed has worked on this one is pretty violent but I personally like it that way. You may disagree with some of my opinions but again they are only MY opinions.
Rating: Summary: Majestic and magical reading experience Review: This magnificent book is truly worth buying. Not only do you get two books in one (the tales of Cormyr in the past and in present), but you'll also understand why Cormyr isn't just a goody-goody-lame-chivalric-disneyland. It is actually an authentic Medieval setting, with poisoning, intrigues, murders, lies, betrayals and even worse. And the authors have managed to keep these 460+ pages easy to read, the action fluent and the characters interesting.
Rating: Summary: What a book! Review: This novel was great. It adds much to anyone who games in that area of Faerun. The history that is detailed was incredible. I would suggest anyone who loves the Realms, read this book.
Rating: Summary: Awsome book worth the long read Review: Well I have to say I had the book for atleast 2 years before I actually got onto reading it, I read the first couple of pages a couple times cause I stopped reading it for long periods of times cause I was afraid of reading such a big book. The first fourth of the book I'd say was confusing and it took me a while to know what was happening till it hit me and I fell in love with it, I couldn't put it down! I loved it so much I decided to start over again and read it for my English grade in summer school I had two weeks 3 hours a day to read and in the last minit of the last day I finished the essay and got an A+ on it. Awsome book don't say it's a bad till you read it all the way through, it's worth it. It may be big and take a long time to read but I never wanted it to end. -VickyGeez
